Seventh Grade Health 

Fall 2019

Purpose: ​As students move through their middle school experience, it is important that they learn about health, their bodies and 
fitness. The 7th grade Health Core class will be focusing on the human body; its functions, and the importance of taking care of 
it. We will also be discussing the roles of emotional, mental and social health along with physical. The class will be part lecture, 
part activity, when all topics and materials have been discussed. 
 
Units to be covered:  
Body Systems  Components of Fitness  Nutrition and Digestion 

Sex Education  Technology in Health  World Wide Health 


 
Grading Scale: 
Participation  These are like your daily points. Is the  40% 
student actively listening and giving to 
group discussion? Students are not 
disturbing the class, and are working 
hard during the activities.  

Project  This is a BIG project. It will have its  20% 


own rubric and will be due at the end of 
the term.  

Assessments  There will be open note assessments  20% 


with each of the big units.  

Homework/ Assignments  Homework and in-class assignments are  10% 


turned in completed and on time. 

Dressing Out  This is an active class and students will  10% 


need to dress appropriately for physical 
activity. Active clothes and tennis shoes 
should be worn on posted dress out 
days. 
Absent/ Sick/ Injured 
Students can make up daily points by: 
Doing physical activity outside of school for 45 minutes. Then in their own words, write 7-8 complete sentences 
explaining why it counts as physical activity. 
Or 
Find a current sporting event and report on it. Briefly explain what the competition is, who plays in it, and where the 
competition is taking place.  
Each day missed should be a separate entry (if you miss two days, two make-up sheets should be turned in) 
Students have until the week before the end of the term to turn in all make up work. 
 
THE STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING ANY NOTES THEY MISSED, FROM EITHER CLASSMATES 
OR COMING IN DURING OFFICE HOURS.
