Love could sometimes be unexpected, and as for the book “Raven” it fashions new idea
about loving someone with the least belief of truly anticipating it. The story was authored by
Norah Hess who was a geek in writing Western Romances. The story unfolded a grueling
dilemma for a love that started from the very hunger of flesh which eventually turned out to be a
love that was strengthened by choices. It could be inferred that love truly has no perfect places
since it will start to grow when exposed to favorable circumstances. Even if it has been felt at a
complicated moment or hours that seems to be degrading, once it knocks through broken doors it
will knock again to remind you that you shouldn’t be closing doors to people for self-healing.
You might never know that it’s not you who could only fix yourself, but people too could paste
those broken parts that you missed to repair.
The story unveils the life of a woman named Raven McCloud who seems to be caged by
her husband’s maltreatment by forcing her to use her beauty as a distraction towards cheating on
poker. A night came that she was sold for a thousand dollar to a rich cowboy Chance McGruger
for one night. That humiliating moment started a love but at the same time faded away the next
morning. With the turn of the events after Raven was widowed, she found her wandering self
together with her brother, Tory, in a remote place called Montana where they used her earned
money to buy a ranch. Surprisingly, the one night moment haunted her for the man she was with
also owned a nearby ranch in that hometown. It was uncomfortable especially for the woman,
but she shouldn’t be complaining that tragedy for she inflicted that upon herself. Later, as the
spiteful attitude of Jadine McGruger, a step-daughter of Chance’s grandfather who was also
interested with Chance, plagued Raven’s life she has no other choice but to swallow every
moment with closed eyes. A moment came that she was kidnapped with Jadine’s orders
rendering her to lose her memory. Fortunately, her man saved her and grabbed the moment of
telling a lie that they were in a relationship. Chance thought that he would isolate the lie that
would break them apart but as soon as Raven discovered the truth she left everyone with the
baby inside her. Everyone thought nothing but to find Raven but the moment they learned that
the lady suffered a terrible death of drowning by the river, their world broke apart. Jadine, on the
other side, devised a sinister plot of killing the Old McGruger so that she will inherit all the old
man’s wealth. Her plan worked but she got no single penny at all. With Chance’s regrets of
losing Raven and his old man, life finally manage to use its intervening hands and twisted
Raven’s life to meet again her husband. It was only but a misunderstanding. Raven with her
unborn baby never died nor was hurt. Till then they fixed their problem together and fall in love
with each other once again.
As a whole, the character’s compelling roles gave relevance to the story especially Tory,
Raven’s brother, and Jadine, Chance’s step relative. Excluding the main characters who surely
gave much life to the story, Tory gave surprising significance since he’s the sole responsible of
why Raven was obligated to be with the man she madly loves but also madly hold grudges to. He
was the person who forced the marriage of both and was the reason why Raven walked away
without a word. As for Jadine, without her mortifying moments of giving pestilence for the
whole story, it would only resume the book’s downsides.
Generally, the book was a good read for individuals who only see love in its perfection
since it will be an eye opener towards a deep understanding of love. Love sometimes would
initially be a conflicting idea between two forsaken people. Once it gets along the way and
reveals it mighty presence, it will surely come back unexpectedly. As what the great philosopher
Plato quoted, “Love finds its way in every man’s heart but not in every heart for where there is
hardness it departs. Its greatest glory is that it cannot do wrong nor allow it. Force near comes
near it, for all men serve it of their own free will. And he whom love touches not walks on
darkness”.
