Abstract
The provinces covered by their study are those within Region IV-A (CALABARZON),
namely: Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon. The general objective of the
study is to assess the wood production and consumption patterns in Region IV-A so
as to develop a wood supply and demand model for the Region. Specifically, it
intends: a. To assess the wood raw material sources by product type in Region IV-A;
b. to determine the Region's wood consumption volume and patterns by product; c.
to develop projection model for wood supply and demand in the Region; and, d. to
study the implications of the results and recommend policy to ensure future wood
security for the Region. Log production in Region IV-A has been on the decline over
the years. To offset this situation, the region continues to import part of its log
requirement from other regions and abroad. Also, coconut lumber as substitute for
wood lumber is also in demand. Based on Philippine Forestry statistics data, the
bulk of logs produced in Region IV-A come from plantations under the tree farms
and agro-forestry farm leases and in private lands. For few years now, no logs were
coming from the natural forests. Analysis of wood demand based on the projections
showed increasing trend in all the various wood components studied through the 15
year period mainly due to the increase of population in the region. Increase in
population contributes to high demand for all types of wood products. As projected,
