Motivation letter-Erasmus bioanalytics

Immunology, Molecular Biology & Biochemistry;

Hello Everyone,
I am writing my motivation letter for Erasmus. Could you please take a look at my letter? Don't hesitate
to correct, cut or paste whatever you feel is needed. Thank you so much!!!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm applying to Erasmus program in Rome from May till July 2013. I'm a student of master's (post-
bachelor) study programme Healthcare bioanalytics at the Charles University in Prague, Faculty of
Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove. I chose this branch of study because I'm interested in biology since
grammar school, especially in the molecular basis of life and cells. During my bachalor study I was
captivated by immunology, molecular biology and biochemistry. I wish to delve deeper into these
subjects

Last year I passed the Final State Examination and I successfully defended the bachalor thesis called
„ Sunitinib effects on endothelial expression of hemeoxygenase 1 in normotensive rats." My
supervisor was Doc. PharmDr. Petr Nachtigal, Ph.D. Now I study the master's programee and I would like
to follow it up with a PhD study. My ultimate goal is to become a researcher.

Since July 2012 I work at laboratory at the Department of Immunology and Gnotobiology, Institute of
Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Novy Hradek. I'm so glad I'm given this
opportunity, because I have learned a lot of new experiences and I can do some methods practically. I'm
able to do a gel electrophoresis, Western blot, isolation of RNA, immunohistochemistry and I tried some
others during my practices in hospitals.

I'm a member of Czech Immunological Society and I'm a supervisor of the Open Science III - a programm
for high school students which is organised by Academy of Science of the Czech Republic.

I would like to take part in Erasmus because it is an excellent opportunity to improve my professional
skills and to gain a lot of experiences. Also I would like to improve my language skills, meet new people
and see the Rome, because it's my dream place.

I'm able to work alone or as a part of a team. I'm responsible, flexible and open-minded. I work hard and
I like to learn new things.

Thank you for considering my application,

Yours sincerely,
Motivation letter for PhD in molecular biology
Control of gene expression' -

Hello everyone! Please help me with my motivation letter. I am applying to the PhD position but I am
not perfect in English. Thank you in advance!

Dear XXX,

I am very interested to applying for the PhD position in the XXX and I believe that my academic
background is appropriate for the position.

I have obtained the Diploma with honors (Master degree equivalent) in Biology in XXX in September
2006. Right now I am in the process of searching for a suitable doctoral program in the development of
biological and medical applications. My best grades by University were in Molecular biology (excellent),
Biochemistry (excellent), Higher Mathematics (excellent) and Genetics (excellent). All of them I liked
very much and tried to find extra information in addition to primary literature. For training I attended
the distance education course of "Molecular Biology 2010" in "Bioengineering" center of XXX from
February 2010 to May 2010.

In the period of study, without interrupting, I took a training program "Translator in Professional
Communication" in department of Philology of XXX from 2008 to 2011 and received a diploma on the
additional qualification of an English interpreter in the direction of biology. I think philological education
gave me not only knowledge in English but also contribute to my personal development.

The topic of my diploma was ïApoplastic peroxidases in Triticum aestivum roots: stress-induced activity
and gene analysisï. The work was to study the biochemical and molecular biological characteristics of
peroxidase genes. In my research I performed gene expression analysis, work with bacterial cells and
production and expression of recombinant proteins, work with bioinformatics programs and databases
(NCBI, SwissProt, Peroxibase, PlantCare, Vector NTI).

In 2011 I was awarded scholarship of Government of the XXX, XXX and performed 2,5 months laboratory
research in XXX of XXX under the supervision of XXX. This short research at XXX taught me how to
behave in international laboratory and gave me ability to learn several molecular biological techniques
for gene promoter studies: sequencing of promoters using Genome Walking, GFP/GUS fusion, DNAse I
footprinting method allowing finding of transcription factor binding sites and regulatory regions in
practice. Based on my academic competency, I believe that I have the capability and potential to
accomplish the PhD research project.

On my opinion, control of gene expression is one of the most (very) existing and perspective theme and I
want to develop my knowledge in this area that is why this position interested me. Although I want to
contribute to work on gene regulatory networks underlying hematopoiesis and regulatory disturbance
leading to leukemia.
I am enclosing my Curriculum Vitae and details of my academic referees. If you require any additional
materials of information, I am happy to supply it.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

My name

Motivation letter for MERIT program

(Erasmus Mundus scholarship)

Please review the motivation letter that I have prepared to submit for MERIT programme. As I am
applying for Erasmus Scholarship, it is quite important to have it upto the mark.

The instruction: Motivation letter should include the application reasons to choose MERIT and how they
relate to career goal. No word/character limit is specified.

MERIT PROGRAM ERASUMS SCHOLARSHIP MOTIVATION LETTER

Everyone is driven by motivation. My ambition to be an integral part of the pioneers of modern

technologies enticed me to choose engineering as my career. Modern civilization is all about
information and its propagation; now a war is half won in the general's table where the logistics is
information, a calamity is fought with foreknowledge of its arrival; having the right amount of
information with the technology to utilize it gives the utmost edge for a society. So, the drive of being at
the heart of development made me to choose career in communication

I have completed my graduation on Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Rajshahi

University of Engineering & Technology, Rajshahi, Bangladesh on July 2011. It was my desire to learn,
and passion for modern communication techniques that elevated me over other 27 very fine students of
our department to achieve the 1st position with a CGPA of 3.90 in a 4.00 scale. Fortunately, the 4 year
long course (8 semesters) comprised of the very subjects that a young aspirant of communication wants
to study. After creating a firm base on mathematics and electronics, we got introduced to the very
basics of modern communication; Signals and Systems and Analog communication techniques. Then
gradually we were introduced to Digital Signal processing, Information theory, Digital communication
Techniques to have more in depth knowledge of information processing. Besides, on a different note,
we were introduced to Electromagnetic fields, Microwave communication, Antennas, Satellites and
Radars in separate courses to have understandings over physical propagation phenomena. And as a well
oriented course should be: we were introduced to practical applications of these systems as well; in last
two semesters where we had studied Basic telecommunication systems, GSM system, CDMA systems,
photonics, Fiber optic communication each on separate courses. While studying, I grew penchant over
wireless communication techniques and performed Undergraduate thesis on "UMTS Radio network
planning" where I investigated the challenges of establishing a Greenfield operator under the
Supervision of Mr. Munjure Mowla that was appreciated by the committee during defense.

After completion of graduation, I joined Robi Axiata Limited; the 2nd largest GSM operator of
Bangladesh as a core network planning engineer. Here I got the opportunity to have practical experience
on a real network. Also, being a core planning engineer enabled me to have experience on SS7 signaling;
the very heart of 2nd generation telecommunication systems.

But the desire for excellence; that has driven me throughout my life has led to understand the needs of
having advanced knowledge on the subject I have craved for. I want to touch the zenith of
communication, to be known amongst the finest, dream to be among the pioneers of the next
generation communication techniques. But Bangladesh is still a developing country, and the
facility/feasibility of higher education is not on the same level with the rest of the world. So, to achieve
excellence, I want to study where most of the modern communication technology has evolved, where
the conglomeration of very best researchers perform novel research to enrich our lives through
communication; the Europe. Also, I believe different environment engenders different perspective on a
person, broadens his/her thought horizons which is one of the most vital aspect about researching
something; one has to think from very different perceptions to make a complete and robust system that
can withstand all known adversities. While searching for a suitable MS program that would bolster my
dream, support my desire and provide me the necessary diversities, MERIT seem to be the very best I
can apply for.

To be proficient on a specific topic, one has to have some basic knowledge on the other ones which is
shrewdly oriented on MERIT program. It offers fundamentals on communication techniques on a broad
sense which enables to have a wide range of choice, providing flexibility in the career path. The program
is aimed to create strong base on theories with a Research semester that enables aspirants to extend
their career onto the next level; one can simply go for R&D in companies, extend academic studies
towards PHD or even join as solution engineer; hence every aspect of the telecommunication career is
encouraged by MERIT. Also, studying in two different universities in two different countries would allow
aspirants to have the diversity I mentioned early which I think is very much required to be a successful
researcher.

Moreover, the courses of the program is continuity of what I have initiated in my undergraduate studies,
it would enable me to have a harmonious career, focused to the destination that I had set myself to
achieve when I began to pursue communication in the first place. Seemingly, the ultimate objective of
both MERIT and my career plan are very much congruent. So, I would like to have the opportunity to
pave the way to reach my dream, "To enrich human civilization through communication."
Motivation Letter
I am willing to apply to Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree
Program

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. While searching for samples of motivation letters, I came across many threads
on this forum regarding this issue.

I am an Egyptian student, and this scholarship is so important for me because I can no longer complete
my studies in Damanhour University .
In the ranking criteria of these scholarships, the motivation letter has 20% of the application grading
scheme. For this reason I need to make it as good as possible. Unfortunately I am new to writing this
kind of letters, so I hope for some help.

Dear, Medastar
I am applying to your Erasmus Mundus Scholarship , Medastar Programme of "Chemistry and
Biotechnology " with specialization in "Biotechnology Science" starting in September 2013.I wish in
particular to be trained at an advanced level in various applied Biochemistry fields. My ultimate goal is
to become an expert researcher in Cancer biochemical therapy. I believe that advanced training in an
undergraduate program of good quality will help me to realize my dream.

Having enjoyed doing chemistry and biology right since high school, I succeeded in the science entrance
examinations and established myself as one amongst the top students of the nation and continued my
academic career with the study of "chemistry and micro biology" at Damanhour University. In the
pursuit of knowledge, I have always adopted a rigorous approach in order to attain an in-depth
understanding of the subject at hand. This is amply reflected in my consistent academic career, always
coming in with the top students in my class.

Within my undergraduate years I was fascinated with subjects such as extract vaccines from the
bacteria. Besides courses listed on my transcript, I did a lot of experiments related to these courses. My
major project in undergraduate study proposed using derivatives of chitosan biopolymer in cancer
therapy.

My reason for this choice of program is that it has a direct relation with human health and curing of
cancer, which is in line with my career goals, to improve human health by regulating the use of all forms
of chemicals commonly used. Together with collaborating institutions, we can work towards a toxic-free
future that causes cancer.

This program interests me most because at the end of the program, I will be able to produce
biochemical medicine, remove toxicological, physical and reactivity hazards of chemical substances. It
also Provide professionals with all the tools and knowledge needed from the scientific, the regulatory
and the economic point of view to manage the risks of chemicals responsibly.
For me to achieve my career goals, I need to focus on short term activities which include learning,
training, and developing related skills, practice skills and get experience in the field of chemical
innovation and regulation. All these can only be achieved by embarking on this program.

I am dynamic, easily adaptable, purpose driven with high communication and interactive skills. I love to
handle problems from their roots.
European universities hold a good international reputation and Europe is the birthplace of 'Western'
culture, Europe has a long history of pioneering higher education, and lays claim to many of the oldest
and most prestigious universities in the world.

It has always been my dream to pursue studies in Europe and because Europe is the site of Excellence, I
strived for the best academic results while in my home university.

I come from a well cultured family and multicultural Country, Egypt; I see no family/cultural barriers that
can hinder my ambitions while in Europe.

Sincerely,
Abdelwahed Elshopaky

Chevening scholarship will enhance my leadership skills and

prepare me for managerial positions

Need help with my

LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCE

review/editing

My father may his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace, before his death one thing he made us promise
was no matter what the destitution or the situation we must endeavor to complete Education because
time will come and no one would give or lend us a hand. We never knew what he was talking about until
his death came knocking on the door.

It was a struggle through primary school, until I joined high school, there my leadership aptitude was
realized by my teachers and students when I was elected deputy head girl in my 2nd year to 3rd year ,
my other prefects and I delegated duties to all students in different areas within school and monitor
maintaining cleanness , to be a school prefect few criteria were have to be encountered such as a
performance and hardworking and in my 4th year, I was promoted to Dinning Hall Captain managing
kitchen logistics, there I developed resilience, organizational and other leadership skills such as decision
making, which I have been honed over the years.

In the year 2013 after completing my Diploma in (Project Management) from Kenya I decided to come
back home and I got job immediately with a local bank as a public Relationship officer and Human
Resource Administrator in which I oversaw 50 employees including casual laborer managing the payroll,
staff leave, taking minutes, writing reports, logistics and meeting official from the government and
building relationships and creating harmonizing workable environment for the community. which wasn't
exactly what I wanted to do, because I was looking for something within the community. The fact that
Bank used Arabic as a language for running business and majority of staff were coming from Sudan
whom they all spoke Arabic. Therefore, delegating and communication with the staff was the most
difficult situation I had to face, furthermore I only spoke English with only basic Arabic for
communicating. Then one day Managing Director called for departmental meeting and the directives
came out in which I was to form a committee of staff and think of new ideas of the dressing code for the
staff, solution and way forward of shifting from Arabic to English and I also proposed to the MD if staff
could start taking English course for the better future for the bank and themselves. I was only left with
to convince, initiate ideas and together with staff to listen and gather data from each other. we had
several meetings with staff before we clinched on so many unresolved issues. I believed in team work,
Despite having complication with some staff because of my age and some felt me delegating them was
not k. I could persuade and convince them, it's all about making everybody want to stretch and
accomplished the mission and the MD approved of the changes because of my persuasion.

It was then I thought of upgrading myself with a higher education level and I started my Distant Learning
from Kenya. I enjoyed my work and studying at the same time. After long struggle with long nights and
days I finally graduate with degree in Peace and Conflicts studies. I started looking for something
challenging and different environment then I landed on contract with International NGO as Protection
Information Management Officer, where I managed and supervised primary and secondary data of the
project, I intricate myself with community, trained and empowered them to depend on themselves and I
loved every minute of it. Trained staff and recruited volunteers, campaigned against early/forced
marriages, gender inequality and people with special needs.

Therefore, Chevening scholarship will further enhance my leadership skills and prepare me for senior
managerial positions upon returning home, fighting for the rights, gender balance and equality for
women as I look forward to transitioning into a global leader.

Nuku, I think your introduction is quite different from what the body of the essay talked about. If you
must want to put this introduction, then let it be linked to how your dear father encouraged you to be
the best version of yourself and standout or something relating to leadership, so that your examples can
be in line with your intro.

Please check your punctuations and use capital letter after full stop.

... which I have been honed over the years.

Also, in you third paragraph,
Then one day Managing Director called for ...

You can make a better statement, your story became boring at some point. Consider something like this:
in one of the meetings organized by the Managing Director, I suggested to the administration that
English speaking would be a better language of communication for effective.... Even though it wasn't
initially accepted, through my persistent influence and initiation of ideas on how to go about achieving
this... the management finally adopted and encouraged all staff to hone their English language skill. As a
result, I helped teach few Staff English language outside of work... I don't know but I think something
like this will be better.

Motivation Letter
I am willing to apply to Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree
Program

Last year I wrote the following letter and got rejected. Can anybody check the letter what I lacked?

MOTIVATION LETTER FOR ERASMUS MUNDUS IN CHEMISTRY

After recently completing my B.Sc. (Honors) from Jahangirnagar University with a major in Chemistry, I
am willing to apply to Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree Program. And for this program, I have
chosen to spend the first semester at the University of Paris-Sud in learning kinetics, biophysics,
analytical methods, and quantum mechanics, second and third semester at the University of Porto in
learning physical chemistry of interfacial, condensed, energetic systems, and applying those learned
skills in building functional materials for sustainable chemistry.

The main aspect of this program that I find the most appealing is the incredible research opportunity. I
have always found research as the perfect way to explore my rather limitless scientific spirit of inquiry
and keep my mind constantly occupied. There is another prominent reason behind why I chose this
program - getting out of my comfort zone. Exploring fascinating cultures, diverse social traditions would
allow me to experience the ever-changing world. Participating in different festivals like Festival de
Sintra, Berck Sur Mer Kite Festival, Cannes Film Festival and Festival of Lights would help me understand
the diversity, inclusiveness, and miscellany that exists among us common people. Whether it is the
illuminated candle glowing from balconies or the artistic tunes coming out of the musical theatre, the
mystifying beauties lying in the world never fails to impress me. Another opportunity I would get by
joining this program is the chance to learn French and Portuguese. Tackling new challenges, embracing
new languages are all I ever wanted. The last reason for choosing this program is the Summer School-
where I would not only get the chance to test my professional and communication ability and uplift
them to a new level but also learn about various aspects of building networks.

Taking courses ranging from the Quantum, Supramolecular to Analytical, Polymer and Industrial
Chemistry during my undergraduate study have provided me the appropriate background that I deem
essential for pursuing a career in the relevant field and delving into advanced research works on
Material Science, Electrochemistry, and Surface Chemistry.

Experiences such as working at the research project titled Biodegradable Acrylic-Acid Chitosan Hydrogel
Preparation and its Efficiency in Removal of Methylene Blue Dye from Aqueous Solution and completing
a prestigious internship at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission under the supervision of Senior
Scientific Officer Dr. Nazia Rahman have evolved my research interests into Physical Chemistry and
Materials for Sustainable Chemistry. The manuscript that I prepared for the aforementioned research
project is currently under review for being published in the International Journal of Environmental
Science and Technology. Besides, I have also been involved in another research titled Removal of Cu(II),
Pb(II) and Cr(VI) ions from Aqueous Solution Using Amidoximated Non-woven Polyethylene Film-g-
acrylonitrile Fabric and the paper is under consideration at the International Journal of Environmental
Research.

At present, I am using the hydrogel that I devised during my internship at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy
Commission for adsorption of toxic heavy metals like copper, lead, and chromium discharged from the
leather industries. I constructed the Hydrogel using biodegradable materials for removal of dyes from
wastewater. When the hydrogel was kept in the dye solution, the water

purified within a short time. Our paper Investigation of Adsorption of Methylene Blue from Aqueous
Solution by Acrylic Acid-Chitosan Hydrogel was accepted at the International Conference on Physics
2018 for presentation.

Participating in different volunteering activities like raising money for the poor and teaching
underprivileged children helped me get selected as youth parliament member for one year. Attaining
3rd Youth Parliament on Right to Work I was able to discern the daily struggles young people have to
endure. Besides, the science festivals, competitions, and seminars that I have attended throughout my
whole life taught me the importance of teamwork, management, leadership and punctuality.

Studying biophysics, spectroscopic methods, and kinetics at the University of Paris-Sud, colloids, self-
assembly, solid state chemistry, and nanotechnology at the University of Porto under the guidance of
the distinguished faculties and access to the world-class resources would help me develop both
theoretical knowledge and research skills on the relevant subject matters. The two weeks summer
school after the second semester and the 6-month internship at the end of the program would be a
massive opportunity for me to test my practical skills at an industrial level. Besides, learning the French
and Portuguese language course would be a valuable asset for me in getting accustomed to the
professional world and becoming a global citizen.

After completing my Masters, I aim to utilize my potential and skills in developing materials for a
sustainable environment. I intend to leave a trail where anyone could trace my unequivocal efforts
affections and hard works in the work that I do, the difference that I have made and will make in the
future.

Thank you very much for your time and attention in reading my motivation letter.

Makid, from what I can tell, this is an extremely long letter that does not have a true motivational
concept. The reason that your essay failed to help your application is because you wrote a personal
statement, not a motivational letter. The letter tried to cover some points but ended up overly
representing and confusing discussion. It is an uneven and confusing discussion most of the time. This
resulted in a blurred presentation of the required discussion points and a lack of clear understanding of
what you were trying to inform the reviewer about.

The letter could have been helped by professional editing since a professional editor would be able to
compress the information in a manner that would have been best suited for the prompt requirements.
The letter suffers from a lack of focus and a more understandable per paragraph presentation. The
reviewer probably found himself lost when it came to trying to decipher that whole point of your
motivational letter, which resulted in the rejection of your application.

The motivational letter should be short, informative, and always on the mark in terms of discussion
requirements. A short letter that achieves that will have a better chance for application consideration
than a long but misdirected letter presentation.

Sample Personal Statement for Molecular Biology

I remember that somebody once said: God has bestowed each of us a skeleton and a limited life. It is up
to us all to do our best within this limited life span and to emit as much heat and light as possible so as
to illuminate the whole world while providing warmth to ourselves before the candle of life dies out.
The saying brings me home that life is limited, but love and relentless efforts can be a torch that kindles
it and makes it most valuable. For me, this torch is nothing other than biology. I remember that when I
was a little child, I would often go to a nearby pond in the afternoon to observe the little fish, shrimps,
snails and the waterweeds in it. Their tranquil and free life would always arouse my great admiration. In
the evening, by the roadside lamps, I would try to catch some crickets to be kept in a pot to enjoy their
beautiful music. When I started to go to school, my teacher of the Nature course gave me some graines.
I took great care of them and watched them develop from larvae to adult insects until finally they
produced their own graines. I would go to the field to pick folium mori to feed them. This can serve as a
good indication of a child's love of life. Being mischievous, I dug out the flower trees my father planted
in pots to observe their root system and sometimes poured hot water into the pots. On other occasions,
I would open up the belly of the fish that my mother was preparing for food to observe their viscera.
This also reflects the strong desire of a teenager to probe into the mysteries of life. It was with those
inborn impulses that I have chosen life science as the objective of my career.

After my college matriculation examination, I applied for biochemistry and molecular biology and was
admitted into Nankai University. During the four-year studies in the famous university in China, I worked
hard at all the subjects and was granted scholarships for four years. I did not feel contented with what I
had achieved because I gradually realized that, in order to be a real scientist, it was far from enough to
master the conventional knowledge. The most important thing was to discover new knowledge and the
latest information. In this account I made extensive extracurricular readings and reflections to sponge
up all range of knowledge so as to upgrade my comprehensive capacity and placed importance on
fostering creativity of new ideas, a broader professional vision and an insight into the frontier areas. In
addition, as member of our university's Biology Association, I often participated in activities publicizing
scientific knowledge, allowing the general public to know about the science of life and to understand the
secrets of life so that they can treasure the life of ourselves and of our fellow creatures.

With relentless efforts,In September 1999 I entered Peking University as a graduate student.(only four
out of a total of 150 students were qualified) In this most famous university in China, I became even
more absorbed in the biological world. During this period, I presided over a pest-resistant corn study
project and took part in many academic conferences and reports. Such an experience not only upgraded
my lab experiment capacity, but also opened up my vision, familiarizing me with the frontier dynamics
of the faculty. But as I delved deeper into my scientific research, a disaster that happened to our family
deprived me of the financial support from my family, forcing me to quit my studies at Peking University.
After much careful consideration, I abandoned the Ph.D. degree program at Peking University.
Nevertheless, on account of my outstanding performance at Peking University, I was recommended by
my advisor to work at National Lab of Molecular Oncology, Cancer Institute, China Academy of Medical
Science & Peking Union Medical College headed by Prof. Min Wu, an academician. At this most
prestigious lab in China and under the guidance of the country's most accomplished specialist in cell
molecular biology, I learned not only how to conduct experiments but also how to undertake scientific
research, laying a solid foundation for my future study.

All these studies have helped upgrade my theoretical and experimental capacity. Meanwhile, with the
deepening of my research work, I have realized that the complete conquest of cancer necessitates a
breakthrough in modern biological theory, especially in molecular, cellular and developmental biology.
We must first understand the laws governing the various intracellular activities, such as genetics and
gene expression and DNA duplication and mutation before we can find out the real cause of cancer and
its therapy.

Thanks to such an experience, I became aware that I should continue with my basic theoretical studies
and improve my lab experimental expertise. From this, I struck upon the idea to pursue an advanced
degree program. After much investigation, I have come to the conclusion that XXX University is my ideal
choice for undertaking this program. The long history, beautiful campus, and stimulating academic
atmosphere are what fascinate me most. I carefully looked at the research orientations of various
professors and found that some of those orientations are in perfect accordance with my interests. I have
become all the more interested after reading some abstracts of their research papers. More
importantly, my theoretical knowledge and experimental skills can qualify me for the completion of
those professors' projects. X x x University enjoys worldwide reputation for its scientific research level in
modern biology. Its unique educational system, strong academic atmosphere and leading lab facilities in
particular have long deeply attracted me. I am especially eager to probe into the expression and
regulation of genes, the duplication and repair of DNA and the laws governing the transmission of
cellular signals and achieve significant academic attainments in these areas.

Upon completing my Ph.D. program, I plan to return to China to work at a prestigious university like
Peking University or Tsinghua University as a professor engaged in research and teaching. I know the
importance of education and as a scientist, however academically and professionally accomplished, his
contributions are limited because his lifespan is limited. The development of science requires the efforts
of generations of scientists. However, the academic levels of Chinese professors are low compared to
their American counterparts, resulting in low academic level and lack of creativity of the undergraduate
and graduate students. The students under China's system of graduate education do not become
scientists, but merely conductors of experiments. That is why I abandoned the Ph. D program at Peking
University. In order to change this situation, I will impart to my students all that I have acquired so that
they can be informed of the latest academic development without having to go abroad.

Re: Please revise my Motivation Letter for Master

programme
Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apply for the Master’s programme “Polar and Marine Sciences”, starting in
September 2013 at Saint-Petersburg State University.

I have completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology (with a specialization in Neuroscience)

from Saint-Petersburg State University in 2012. Currently, I am working as a specialist in
optical microscopy at the Research Resource Centre for Molecular and Cell Technologies of
SPbSU. My main task at my work is to operate fluorescent and confocal microscopes and to
teach and supervise users interested in this equipment. Due to this I have vast experience
in conventional fluorescence, confocal and multiphoton microscopy as well as some
experience in lecturing.

Before University, I had finished at the physico-mathematical lyceum and correspondence

school supported by the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and that gave me a lot
of advantages during my higher education and my work. As for English language
proficiency, I am at an advanced level and this year I also attended two extension English
courses. I think that this knowledge and these skills will be helpful for me in the completion
of this Master’s programme and hopefully they will be applicable to research work in polar
and marine sciences.

POMOR is one of the most perspective and promising Master’s programmes of the University
according to the positive references from graduates for which I have asked. My main reason
for choosing this programme is to receive an education that would be completely different
from other opportunities that I could get at the University. First, POMOR gives me a chance
to study abroad while being in St. Petersburg by conducting lectures of German scientists
and offering a one-semester practice at Hamburg University. It is very challenging to study
in English and I think POMOR has very serious demands for its students, but this only
contributes to graduating more qualified and skillful specialists. So I am sure that POMOR
will be a great foundation for my future career either in science – to find a PhD position, or
in the commercial sphere concerned with ecology and marine mining.

Not the least reason to apply for this Master’s programme is its field of study. Although my
diploma work was related to neuroscience and my present work is connected with
microscopy, I have always dreamt about faraway sea expeditions and field work. I hope that
entering POMOR will help me a lot in finding people who are engaged in organizing and
participating in expeditions to join them. Not to mention that POMOR conducts its own polar
practice which would be a wonderful experience.

When I was a bachelor’s student I saw an announcement of POMOR’s Master’s programme

on the faculty bulletin board. That time I eagerly wanted to enter it but it was impossible
because my education had not finished yet. But this time I can do it. And I am still very
interested in education at POMOR and I am confident that my experience and skills would
fulfill your requirements.

Thank you for considering my application.

Yours faithfully,

Lilia Khatmullina.

MOTIVATION LETTER FOR RESEARCH INTERNSHIP IN LIFE

SCIENCES SAMPLE
Today, we bring you a genuine example of Motivation letter for Research Internship in Life Sciences .
This is a letter written by the undergrad student in bio-science to inquire on possibilities to complete a
Research internship program in Japan. We believe that many of you will find this motivation letter
sample very useful. We wish you a lot of success in your application.

Motivation letter for Research Internship in Life Sciences

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a final-year undergraduate student at the Faculty of Bio-science at Lomonosov Moscow State
University and with this letter I would like to express my motivation for your summer program.

I decided to be a biologist when I was in high school because I realized that biology is a science in which
innovations are important in all aspects of our life. My love of biology increased at university because,
with advances in modern technology, biology can open a vast range of opportunities. For example,
when I attended the Bioinformatic Summer School in 2017, I learned first-hand that programming is a
perfect match for biology. This knowledge was important for me due to my love of molecular biology
and my goal of pursuing a career which combines both disciplines. As a result, I successfully completed
several courses on programming and have been participating in programming clubs.
Furthermore, I am always interested in broadening my knowledge in fields such as histology,
biochemistry, genetics, and cytology. I believe they are relevant and appropriate to build up my career
in science.

For the past 5 years, I have been one of the three winners in Russia “I am a Professional” competition,
in the area of biotechnology. I have also written and published a few scientific articles.

The more I read about the National Institute of Genetics, the more I love this institute. NIG really
impacts modern science, and the greatest scientists from NIG, such as Professor SAGA, Ajima Rieko,
Professor Inoue Ituro and others are highly renowned and acknowledged in the scientific community.
The faculty interviewers strongly motivated me not only by the very interesting scientific topics and
achievements discussed, but also with their human qualities, including their motivation, kindness, and
absolute dedication to their field of research.

I am very interested in laboratory work, and I think that it is very important to understand the principles
of population genetics and molecular evolution at the level of both bioinformatics and genetics because
it can lead scientists to many findings crucial for understanding of the evolution and co-evolution, gene
expression, phylogeny and protein evolution. I am convinced that my goals to develop my programming
skills and my dedication to the science of molecular biology and genetics will lead to successful
laboratory research work. I believe that I will be able to gain the irreplaceable experience required for
my future career in science after attending the summer apprenticeship and working in your laboratory,
as well as the useful skills and knowledge of molecular evolution, population genetics, and
bioinformatics.

I am convinced that NIGINTERN will be an indispensable experience for me, and I am strongly motivated
to succeed at NIG.

Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to your positive response.

Yours faithfully,

Maria Koroleva

RE: PhD in Biotechnology

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing this letter to apply to the PhD program in Biotechnology on your University. I learned about
this competitive program from guest lecturer, and famous scholar Mr Name Surname, PhD, who was
lecturing ______ at my home University, and got very keen to continue my education on your
University, which I perceive as a leading scientific institution in the World in the field of biotechnology.

I believe that my academic background is appropriate for the PhD position on your University. As you
may see in the application form I have completed Master of Medical laboratory Science, with
specializing in pharmacology from Cairo University of Science and Technology in September 2014. At the
moment I am working in the St. John’s hospital, in Oncology department, which is the main center for
diagnosis and treatment of tumors in Egypt.
Due to my ongoing interest in biotechnology and biology in general since hugh school days, I got
admitted to BSc program in Laboratory Sciences, and in 2011 received my undergraduate degree from
the University College of Medical Sciences in Alexandria. A year later I got enrolled on master program
studying variety of courses in DNA. It is quite novel 2 year Master program, where first year is
dedicated to courses and second year research. During my studies I took challenging courses such as
advanced biochemistry and molecular biology, which I particularly enjoyed studying.

Thanks to my education and extensive research I started to work as lab director in St John’s hospital, in

RECOMMENDATION LETTERS TEMPLETS
Sample Scholarship Letter of Recommendation
Dear Colleagues:

I am happy to write a letter of recommendation for Mary Smith in support of her application to the Department of
Maternal and Child Health MPH program. Ms. Smith took the classroom version of Principles of Epidemiology for
Public Health (EPID 160) this past fall. Based on her performance in the course, I feel she would be a good candidate
for the MPH program.

Grading in EPID 160 is based on a combination of “objective” and “subjective” evaluations. The objective components
are two open-book, take-home examinations (35% of the overall grade) and a paper (25%), each based on an article.
Each teaching assistant grades several exam questions across the entire class (this year we combined the 101
classroom and 64 Internet students). Thus, exam scores provide a good basis for comparison. The papers are also
graded anonymously, but in spite of attempts to standardize the grading there are undoubtedly differences across
graders.

The more subjective components are TA (20% of the overall grade) and peer (20%) evaluations of participation in
small group discussions about case studies based mostly on articles. Although I try to adjust the results for
differences in grading styles across TAs and across small groups, these scores are less comparable across the class
as a whole.

Ms. Smith's overall grade of 85 fell right in the center of the distribution. Her score of 79 on each exam was just below
the median on the first exam (quartiles were 75, 80, and 85) and just above the median on the second exam
(quartiles 70, 78, 88; the median for students in the classroom edition was 80). Her grade on the paper was
somewhat disappointing (78, just below the first quartile for the class as a whole and for all papers graded by the
same grader).

On the more subjective evaluation components, Ms. Smith's ratings were very good. Scores on these evaluations
tend to run high, but Ms. Smith was one of 14 students supervised by Amy Green to receive the maximum score. The
average of the peer ratings that Ms. Smith received from the other students in her small group fell right at the median
of her group. Amy Green, an advanced Epidemiology doctoral student who met with and observed 33 students in the
weekly labs, writes of Ms. Smith:

“Mary was one of the most dedicated of my students. She always came prepared to lab, asked good questions, and
frequently volunteered to present her work. Many epidemiologic concepts are not straightforward, and it was evident
that Mary put a great deal of effort and time into learning the material. She was one of the hardest working students
and would often email me with questions. Her lab group benefited immensely from her inquisitive style. She also
made a concerted effort to synthesize information outside of class. On a number of occasions she brought additional
material to the attention of the instructor and students, and shared relevant and interesting ways to incorporate
epidemiologic thinking into public health. She would make an intelligent, energetic and hard-working addition to any
public health program”

Ms. Smith's performance on the EPID 160 exams demonstrates that she is competitive with graduate students in
public health degree programs in her ability to learn epidemiology, and her successful lab participation demonstrates
that she works well with her peers and contributes at least her share. Although her score on the article critique was
lower than those for most of the class, the grading for these is less precise than for the examinations.

Please feel free to call (966-7436) or write (vjs@unc.edu) if I can be helpful.

Yours sincerely,

Victor J. Schoenbach, PhD

Sample Letter of Recommendation for Teacher

Kay Traester has been my student teacher in my eighth grade English classes during the winter/spring period of the
2004-2005 school year. Kay came well prepared to her student teaching experience. Prior to being my student
teacher, she was a tutor for several weeks for some of my needier students after school. In this capacity she was
consistent, compassionate and reliable. While student teachers are required to spend one hundred hours for field
study, Kay had clocked well over double that amount prior to her student teaching experience with me further
evidencing her dedication to the teaching profession. This enthusiasm and philosophy of hard work did not wane
after she began her formal student teaching in earnest.
When she began her student teaching, it was immediately evident that Kay had a love for the
profession and a sincere interest in and concern for the students. She was willing to come up with creative lessons
that proved to be interesting and educationally effectiive. Furthermore, she spent many hours with an individual
student working on reading strategies on her own time to help one of my less capable readers.
Kay has approached any and all aspects of the work involved in teaching my students with eager
anticipation. She wrote extremely detailed and well thought out plans in spite of the fact that during this entire student
teaching experience she maintained her responsibilities as editor in chief of the Colgate University Maroon News
weekly newspaper. In fact, in my thirty years of teaching I have never experienced any student teacher who was
better prepared and who worked harder than Kay. Her lessons have been thought out and professional. She was
always willing to adjust any parts of her lessons she thought could be improved.
Kay’s classroom management style seemed closer to that of a veteran teacher than to the student teacher
she is. Her maturity in dealing with the students was evident and, as a result, commanded real respect from the
students.
On a practical level, all the papers, quizzes and tests Kay assigned to the students were immediately graded
and returned to the students. She maintained a level of efficiency that was fueled by her obvious work ethic and her
professional concern for her students’ progress. No time was wasted in her class.
While teaching in my classroom Kay took the initiative to create many colorful, creative and effective bulletin
boards relating to the work being done and the units studied in class. She became ever more efficient in her
teaching, keeping lists of students who owed work on the board as well as announcing the homework assigned each
day.
Overall, as the chairman of our English department, I would not hesitate to offer Kay a teaching position in our
district were we to have an opening. Wherever she decides to accept a teaching position, I know with all confidence
that she will do an outstanding job and become an asset to the school district fortunate enough to receive her
application for employment
Should you desire further information, please contact me at Sherburne-Earlville Central School.

Respectfully submitted,

English Department Chair

Sample Personal Letters of Recommendation

Because judges may receive dozens or hundreds of applications, they use letters of recommendation to distinguish
among the many qualified candidates. Most trial court judges require two letters of recommendation and most
appellate judges prefer three. Confirm the required number of recommendations with the judge to whom you are
submitting your application. At least one of these letters should be from a law school professor. When deciding who
on the faculty you should ask to write your letter of recommendation, remember that the best letters of
recommendation come from professors who can speak from personal knowledge of you and your work. You start
during your first year to develop relationships with your professors. This will ensure that there are one or two faculty
members who know you well enough to write personalized letters of recommendation. If there is a particular
professor you would like to have write your letter of recommendation, become actively involved with the professor's
research or try to serve as his or her faculty fellow, enroll in a directed research with him or her, or do a volunteer
project. The professor will become acquainted with you and your work and will be in a better position to write a
glowing recommendation. Faculty members know that students will be asking for recommendations. Do not hesitate
to ask. However, give them plenty of time - at least one month - to prepare the letters.

If the professor writing your letter of recommendation offers to let you see the letter, read through it to confirm that it is
an accurate portrayal of your character and abilities. If it is not, and you have multiple letters to choose from, use the
letters that present you in the best light. Each faculty member is different regarding the number of letters they will
send. Ask each professor how many letters it is appropriate to request of them. Most professors have no problem
with 20-30 letters since they tend to use the same letter for each judge. However, to maintain good will, the more
letters you request, the more you should try to lessen the workload for the professor (provide addressed envelopes
so the professor doesn't have to worry about it).

You may also consider requesting a letter of recommendation from an attorney who has seen your work. Do not
include any recommendations with an attorney from before you entered law school. Again, provide adequate notice to
the attorney so that he or she may have sufficient time to complete the recommendation letter. Letters of
recommendation can either be sent separately from your application packet or sealed and included with the other
application materials. We recommend that you include sealed letters of recommendation in your application packet.
This will decrease the possibility that your letters of recommendation become misfiled.
