Current Transformer Type IOSK Measures Procedure

1 Aim:
Control the electrical and visual quality of the current transformers type IOSK for the voltage
levels specified by the standard IEC 61869-2:2012.

2 Rule:
Apply the different voltage levels at power frequency between the top (high voltage) and tank
(ground) of transformers and perform the routine tests.
Perform a visual inspection of the units and check the rating plate and terminals markings.

4 Routine tests:
Routine tests performed as below are shown in the standards IEC 61869-2.
The following tests apply to each individual current transformer:

1) Verification of terminal markings (IEC 61869-1 chapter 7.3.6);


2) Power-frequency voltage withstand tests on primary terminals (IEC 61869-1 chapter 7.3.1);
3) Partial discharge measurement (IEC 61869-1 chapter 7.3.2);
4) Measurement of capacitance and dielectric dissipation factor (tanδ) (IEC 61869-1 chapter
7.4.3);
5) Power-frequency withstand voltage test on secondary terminals (IEC 61869-1 chapter 7.3.4);
6) Power-frequency withstand voltage test between sections (IEC 61869-1 chapter 7.3.3);
7) Inter-turn overvoltage test (IEC 61869-2 chapter 7.3.204);
8) Determination of errors (IEC 61869-1 chapter 7.3.5);

9) Determination of the excitation characteristic and composite error (ε c ).


10) Measurement of rated knee-point e.m.f. and exciting current (IEC 61869-2 chapter 7.3.203);
11) Determination of secondary winding resistance (IEC 61869-2 chapter 7.3.201);
12) Transformer oil test.

5 Procedure:
5.1 Verification of terminal markings:
- Check the terminals marking with the drawing of the terminal box approved by the customer.
- Check the rating plate with the drawing of the rating plate approved by the customer.

5.2 Power-frequency withstand test on primary winding:


5.2.1 General description
- Connect the high voltage tap on the top (A) of the transformer;
- Short circuit all the secondary and connect them to the terminal box;
- Connect the measuring tap to the terminal box;
- Apply the rated power-frequency withstand voltage according the IEC61869-1 in Table 2. The
duration shall be 60 s, unless otherwise specified.
-Repeated power-frequency tests on primary terminals should be performed at 80 % of the
specified test voltage.

5.2.2 Schematic circuit diagram

5.3 Partial discharge measurement:


5.3.1 General description
- Connect the high voltage tap on the top (A) of the transformer;
- Short circuit all the secondary and connect them to the terminal box;
- Connect the measuring tap to the terminal box;
- Apply the voltage levels according the IEC61869-1 (Table 3), perform the measurement of the
partial discharges and compare the values with the limits given by the IEC61869-1 (Table 3).

5.3.3 the limited values

5.3.4 Partial discharge test procedure (our test with the Procedure A)
Procedure A: the partial discharge test voltages are reached while decreasing the voltage after
the power-frequency withstand test.
Procedure B: he partial discharge test is performed after the power-frequency withstand test.
The applied voltage is raised to 80% of the power-frequency withstand voltage, maintained for
not less than 60 s, then reduced without interruption to the specified partial discharge test
voltages.
If not otherwise specified, the choice of the procedure is left to the manufacturer.

5.4 Measurement of capacitance and dielectric dissipation factor (tanδ):


5.4.1 General description
(1) For measurement of the capacitance of the complete unit (C N ):
- Connect the high voltage tap on the top (A) of the transformer;
- Short circuit all the secondary and connect them to the terminal box;
- Connect the measuring tap to the terminal box;
(2) For measurement of the capacitance of the capacitance tap in the terminal box (Ct):
- Connect the high voltage tap on the top (A) of the transformer;
- Disconnect the capacitance tap (Ct) from the terminal box and connect it directly to the
measuring tap;
- Short circuit all the secondary and connect them to the terminal box;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the unit;

5.4.2 schematic circuit diagram


a) Measured between primary terminal and earth, from 10kV to 1.1Um/√3.
The value of the dielectric dissipation factor does not exceed 0.005 according the IEC 61869-1
clause 7.4.3

b) Measured between primary and “Ct” tap, at 10 kV and 1.1Um/√3, tan δ ≤ 2 %:

5.5 &5.6) Power-frequency withstand test on secondary windings and Power-frequency


withstand test between sections:
5.5.1 General description
- Connect the tap of the voltage applier on the measured core;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the unit;
- Shunt all the other cores between them and ground them to the terminal box;
- Apply the rated power-frequency withstand voltage according the IEC 61869-1 (clause 5.3.4 &
5.3.5) - 3 kV during 60 s on each core one by one;
- Repeat the same test for each core(s).

5.7 Inter-turn overvoltage test:


5.7.1 General description
- Connect the high current taps on the primary terminal (P1 & P2) of the transformer;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the transformer;

- Connect the measuring wires on the secondary core you have to measure;
- Apply the current on the primary until the extended current if applicable or until 4.5kV peak
according the IEC 61869-2 (clause 5.3.201) during 60 seconds;
- Repeat the same test for each core(s).

5.7.2 Schematic circuit diagram

5.7.3 the test procedure


Procedure A: (The secondary windings open method)
with the secondary windings open-circuited (or connected to a high impedance device which
reads peak voltage), a substantially sinusoidal current at a frequency between 40Hz and 60 Hz
(in accordance with IEC 60060-1) and of r.m.s. value equal to the rated primary current (or rated
extended primary current (clause 5.6.201.5) when applicable) shall be applied for 60s to the
primary winding.

The applied current shall be limited if the test voltage of 4.5 kV peak is obtained before reaching
the rated current (or rated extended primary current).

If the test voltage of 4.5 kV peak is not reached at maximum primary current, the obtained
voltage shall be regarded as the test voltage.

5.8 Determination of errors:


5.8.1 General description
- Connect the high current taps on the primary terminal (P1 & P2) of the transformer;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the transformer;
- Connect the measuring wires on the secondary cores;
- Apply the current levels according the IEC standard:
Clause 5.6.201 for the measuring current transformers;
Clause 5.6.202 for the protective current transformers.
- Apply the burden on the secondary cores;

5.9 Determination of excitation characteristic and of composite error (εc ):


- Disconnect the high current taps on the primary terminal (P1 & P2) of the transformer;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the transformer;
- Connect the measuring wires on the secondary core you have to measure;
- Energize the secondary core with a value equal to the secondary limiting e.m.f.;
- Measure the exciting current; with the same expressed in percent and multiplied with by the
accuracy limit factor (ALF), the result shall not exceed the limit of the composite error given in
the table 205 of IEC61869-2.

5.10 Test of rated knee-point e.m.f. (Ek) and exciting current at Ek: (V-A curve)
5.10.1 General description
- Disconnect the high current taps on the primary terminal (P1 & P2) of the transformer;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the transformer;
- Connect the measuring wires on the secondary core you have to measure;
- Energize the secondary core with a value equal to the rated knee-point e.m.f. and with a equal
to an increase of 10% of the rated knee-point e.m.f.;
- Measure the exciting current at rated knee-point e.m.f. and at 10% of rated knee-point e.m.f.,
and at Vk/2 if required:
The exciting current at the rated knee-point e.m.f. (or at Vk/2) shall not exceed the specified
value(s);
The exciting current at 10% of the rated knee-point e.m.f. shall not increase more than 50% the
value of the exciting current measured at the knee-point e.m.f..

5.11 Determination of secondary winding resistance (Rct)


- Measure the resistance on each secondary winding at ambient temperature;
- Correct the value measured to the temperature 75°C:
The resistance corrected to 75°C shall not exceed the specified value(s).

DGA analysis, according the GB 7252;

5.13 Insulation resistance meter

DC 2500V, ≥2000 MΩ
