1 Aim:
Control the electrical and visual quality of the current transformers type IOSK for the voltage
levels specified by the standard IEC 61869-2:2012.
2 Rule:
Apply the different voltage levels at power frequency between the top (high voltage) and tank
(ground) of transformers and perform the routine tests.
Perform a visual inspection of the units and check the rating plate and terminals markings.
3 Referent documents:
IEC 61869-1:2007, Instrument Transformers – Part 1: - Genera requirements
IEC 61869-2:2012, Instrument Transformers – Part 2: - Additional requirements for current
transformers
IEC 60596:2012, Fluids for electrotechnical applications - Unused mineral insulating oils for
transformers and switchgear
4 Routine tests:
Routine tests performed as below are shown in the standards IEC 61869-2.
The following tests apply to each individual current transformer:
5 Procedure:
5.1 Verification of terminal markings:
- Check the terminals marking with the drawing of the terminal box approved by the customer.
- Check the rating plate with the drawing of the rating plate approved by the customer.
5.3.4 Partial discharge test procedure (our test with the Procedure A)
Procedure A: the partial discharge test voltages are reached while decreasing the voltage after
the power-frequency withstand test.
Procedure B: he partial discharge test is performed after the power-frequency withstand test.
The applied voltage is raised to 80% of the power-frequency withstand voltage, maintained for
not less than 60 s, then reduced without interruption to the specified partial discharge test
voltages.
If not otherwise specified, the choice of the procedure is left to the manufacturer.
- Connect the measuring wires on the secondary core you have to measure;
- Apply the current on the primary until the extended current if applicable or until 4.5kV peak
according the IEC 61869-2 (clause 5.3.201) during 60 seconds;
- Repeat the same test for each core(s).
The applied current shall be limited if the test voltage of 4.5 kV peak is obtained before reaching
the rated current (or rated extended primary current).
If the test voltage of 4.5 kV peak is not reached at maximum primary current, the obtained
voltage shall be regarded as the test voltage.
5.10 Test of rated knee-point e.m.f. (Ek) and exciting current at Ek: (V-A curve)
5.10.1 General description
- Disconnect the high current taps on the primary terminal (P1 & P2) of the transformer;
- Connect the ground of the test field on the terminal box of the transformer;
- Connect the measuring wires on the secondary core you have to measure;
- Energize the secondary core with a value equal to the rated knee-point e.m.f. and with a equal
to an increase of 10% of the rated knee-point e.m.f.;
- Measure the exciting current at rated knee-point e.m.f. and at 10% of rated knee-point e.m.f.,
and at Vk/2 if required:
The exciting current at the rated knee-point e.m.f. (or at Vk/2) shall not exceed the specified
value(s);
The exciting current at 10% of the rated knee-point e.m.f. shall not increase more than 50% the
value of the exciting current measured at the knee-point e.m.f..
