CUM SA MONTEZI OGLINZI ELECTRICE AUTO-RETRACTABILE

(POWER FOLDING) PE FIESTA FACELIFT

First things first make sure you have a nice selection of tools beside you in order to carry out this
modification.
This is only a rough guide and should not be taken as gospel. All the wiring should be done with the battery
disconnected and should be checked for any faults before introducing power to the circuit.
Only carry out this modification if you are confident with vehicle electrics and trim removal. Remember
these trims will break so take care.

You will need:

BOTH ELECTRIC FOLDING MIRRORS

FOLDING MIRROR RELAY
FOLDING MIRROR SWITCH
5 INSULATED FEMALE SPADE TERMINALS
4 INSULATED MALE SPADE TERMINALS
1 RING TERMINAL FOR EARTH
1 INSULATED INTER CONNECTOR (OR ALTERNATIVE JOINT)
10MM/8MM SOCKET & RATCHET
TORX 20, 25, 30 ON A SCREWDRIVER
10 AMP FUSE
7 METRES OF RED, BLACK AND BLUE WIRE
THIN WELDING WIRE TO USE AS A CHASE/MOUSE
VW TERMINAL 000979133A TO CONNECT INTO FUSE BOX AND MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH MULTI PLUG (THIS
COMES CONNECTED TO YELLOW WIRE)

Tip: WIRING AND TERMINALS CAN BE SOURCED FROM HALFORDS IF YOU USE THE VW TERMINAL THEN YOU
WILL HAVE TO OBTAIN IT FROM A DEALER THERE ARE OTHER WAYS OF WIRING IT UP BUT THIS LOOKS
BETTER

Guide

1. Start off by removing the door panel trim

Remove the two 10mm plastic screws on the bottom of the trim underneath the door.
These are plastic so take care not to snap them while removing or refitting.
Once they are out pull the little plastic trim clips that hold the 10mm bolts out, again being careful not to
damage them.

Remove the screw cover by pressing a little on the right hand side this will pop the cap off.
Remove the torx screw, don’t pull it just leave like shown in the picture. This handle does not come off it
stays exactly where it is as shown.

2. Now remove the door handle trim, again be very gentle but firm, pull the trim away from the door at
the bottom, it will pop off and come away from the top of handle, remember be firm but gentle.
Once it has come off unclip the multi plugs from the electric window switch’s taking note of which colour
multi plug goes in which switch for later reference.
At either end of the silver handle are the main two screws that hold the panel in place remove them both.

3. Now remove the trim holding the electric mirror switch.

Pull the trim as shown from left to right, the clips are on the left side and the right side just holds it onto
the frame.
Remove the multi plug and push the switch out ready for your new one.

4. Now remove the whole door panel.
Pull the panel from the bottom up once all the clips have popped off slide the trim off the door frame.
Don’t pull it away from the door just yet.
Rest the trim on your foot and allow the top to fall towards you, you’ll see the latch release cable still
attached, gently release the little locking tag and take note of how the cable is fixed to the handle. When
refitted it must sit in the little cup otherwise it will not open the door. Place the door trim in a nice safe
clean place for the time being. You will need to remove the speaker, it has four silver torx screws, once
removed unclip the multi plug and put to one side.

5. Now with the door ready you need to remove the glove box.
Where the glove box comes to rest there are two black rubber dampers these are the only bits stopping the
glove box from coming out. Push them towards each other with some force and the glove box will drop
forward, now the bottom pivoted part of the lid is on clips so be firm and gentle, give it a pull and it will
pop off in your hands. Put the glove box lid to one side.

6. Now you need to remove the driver’s side lower dash trims, pop open the little storage compartment as
it drops open pull it up the trim. Once the bottom has come unclipped slide it back down and then out of
the little cut out slots.
Remove all the black screws you can see, then pull the trim gently on the left hand side near the radio as
this part is clipped in, now you should have a nice view of your pedals etc. Put the trim to one side

7. Remove the multiplug and undo the 10mm bolt while supporting the mirror unit once the bolt is out push
the two clips towards each other and the mirror unit will come off in your hands.
Fit the new mirror unit in reverse. The 10mm bolts are self tapping and will cut their own thread so make
sure the bolt goes in square and don’t over tighten it. It can be an idea to use some washing up liquid to
lubricate the bolt as it cuts the thread, also it can be easier to fit the bolt, cutting the new thread, with
the mirror off the car first, then when you fit the mirror to the car the thread is already there, just be sure
not to over tighten the bolt. Remove the painted trim on the old mirror unit by lifting it at the bottom of

the painted section be gentle as the clips may break, clip it into place on the new unit top end in first.
Now that’s fitted you need to start making the loom and chasing into the body work.
Just in front of the mirror unit on the A pillar of the car is a small triangle shaped bit of trim pull on the
left side of the trim and the clips will come off. Don’t pull it all the way off as the bottom section of the
trim slides into the panel work gently slide it forwards in the direction of the car and then back it should
come off in your hand.
Behind this is a grommet pull the grommet out and keep safe.
Now remove the door multi plug by supporting the rubber section with your right hand and twisting the
multi plug anti clockwise with the left it should now be disconnected turn the multi plug in the A pillar
clockwise and it should fall into the car use your left hand under the dash to find the loom and plug for the
door, pull it out the way. There is a small square foam pad covering the cut out on the inside pull this to
one side to make room for your hands.
Now here is the tricky part take a long thin piece of wire and pass it down the outside of the A pillar until
you can pull it through the hole where the multi plug lives. This is very tricky to do on this side so take
your time it takes a while to get it in the right place.
Once the wire rod is in place tape the red wire to it at the bottom using insulation tape make sure its tight,
leave a small gap then tape a black wire to it, leave another gap and tape a blue wire to it. With all the
wires taped up pull the rod up through the A pillar whilst feeding the coloured wires from the bottom be
careful not to catch the wires on the metal work as it is sharp and will cause a short to earth in your circuit
thus blowing fuses. With at least a metre and a half of cable fed through, even up the lengths and start to
tape the wiring up with insulation tape.
With the loom all taped up make a small hole in the grommet at the top of the A pillar and feed the wiring
through it as shown.
The gap down the A pillar is tight so you can not feed a fully insulated loom all the way down only about an
inch or two.
Fit the grommet back in place.

8. Run the loom down the door behind the check strap you may wish to use some kind of adhesive clips to
hold the loom in place to stop it getting trapped in the door hinge.
Make a small hole in the top part of the door wiring loom and feed your wiring loom through.

9. Look inside the door panel with the speaker removed and cable tie the loom to the original door loom.
Make a small hole in the grommet of the door panel and feed your loom through, again cable tie the loom
to the original wiring loom all the way up to the mirror unit multi plugs.

10. On the square black multi plug there is a spare pin allocation, on that side of the plug is a flap open up
the flap by lifting the tiny clips with a pick. Stick the VW wire into that slot when it’s clipped in push the
flap down. Now cut off the excess loom you’ve made and join the VW wire to the blue wire as shown
below.

11. Use two red spade terminals and connect your red wire to the blue on the mirror unit and the black to
the yellow on the mirror unit not the switch.
Now refit your speaker and door trim in reverse of taking it off.
With the large quantity loom hanging out the bottom of the A pillar feed it back in to the car leaving way
for the original door loom to be refitted. Push the door multi plug from the inside out and twist it into
position it should click into place and be secure if it’s not then try again. Refit the door loom multi plug by
twisting it clockwise, once it’s lined up into position, it should be easy to remove and refit this part so if it
doesn’t feel right make sure it’s lined up square or you will damage the pins.
With the door trim back on and the loom all fitted in the door, cable tie the loom to the main car loom
running down the back of the pedals, keeping it clear of any moving parts.

12. Chase it right up behind the heater box and out the other side up to the fuse box.
Repeat the same procedure for the passenger’s door with regards to removing the door trim and mirror unit
but this time you only need a red wire and a black wire.

13. Feeding the loom in, have a look behind this support you will find a hole feed the wire rod up the hole
and it will pop out here (below)

14. Remember to take the trim off and pull the grommet out, for some reason it’s easier this side to push a
fully insulated loom all the way up so again tape up a good metre or two. Copy the driver’s side with
regards to fitting the loom in place and connecting the loom up.

15. With both looms in place and the trims all refitted your ready to power up the circuit
Remove the fuse box by undoing the two 10mm bolts and sliding it up when it has dropped forward remove
the trim cover at the back of the fuse box.
Use a second VW wire and terminal and locate any one of the empty fuse slots that already has a live side
to it. (I used F7 for Auto Gearbox) There’s no auto in my ST.

16. Push the terminal in and use an insulated blue female spade terminal to connect to the relay. On relay
pin 4.

17. Refit the cover on the back of the fuse box and refit the fuse box.
Put the two reds together in one terminal and connect to pin 3
The two blacks together in one terminal and connect to pin 1
The single blue into a terminal and connect to pin 2
And make up a third short black wire with a hoop terminal on one end and a female spade on the other and
connect to pin 5

Once all pins are connected secure the relay to the side of the fuse box.

19. Undo the 8mm bolt on the left hand side and connect the loose black hoop to this earth point.

20. Once this is all connected, tidy up your loom and secure it in place using cable ties.
Stick a 10amp fuse in fuse box and push the folding mirror switch down and you should get this below.
