IES Gold Medals

Prior to 1999, four IES Gold Medals are available for award annually, one each to a student
completing the course of study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Chemical,
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and who is first in general proficiency throughout his complete
course of study for the degree. In 1999 and 2000 the Institution of Engineers donated three
additional medals; one each to a student completing the course of study for the degree of Bachelor
of Technology (Electronics Engineering), Bachelor of Technology (Mechanical/Manufacturing
Engineering) and Bachelor of Technology (Chemical Engineering) respectively.
In 2002, the Institution of Engineers donated another medal to a student completing the course of
study for the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering).
In 2004, the donor agreed to contribute three additional gold medals for award to the top graduating
students in Bachelor of Engineering in Computing Engineering; Industrial and System Engineering
and Bioengineering.
In 2009, the donor agreed to contribute two additional gold medals for awarding to the top
graduating students in Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the
Engineering Science Programme (ESP).
In 2015, the donor agreed to contribute an additional gold medal for awarding to the top graduating
student in Bachelor of Technology (Industrial & Management Engineering) Programme.
The awards are governed by the following conditions:

1. Subject to rule 3 below, the medals are available for awarding annually, one each to a top
student completing the course of study for the respective degrees of Bachelor of Engineering
and Bachelor of Technology (BTech).
2. The top student is one who is first in general proficiency throughout his complete course of
study for the degree. The primary criterion is the Culmulative Average Point (CAP).
3. No award will be made unless there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
