LIFE CONNECTIONS & CAPSTONE 12

COURSE OUTLINE 2019 - 2020

Life Connections 12 is a mandatory course required for graduation. The aim of Life Connections is
to enable students to learn personal development, make connections to community, and to start
work on their life plan.

This course is designed around the following curriculum big ideas:

● Career-life development includes ongoing cycles of exploring, planning, reflecting,


adapting, and deciding.

● Career life decisions influence and are influenced by internal and external factors, including
local and global trends.

● Engaging in networks and reciprocal relationships can guide and broaden career - life
awareness and options.

● A sense of purpose and career-life balance support well-being.

● Lifelong learning and active citizenship foster career-life opportunities for people and
communities.

Students are expected to be able to do the following:


Examine Experience
● Recognize personal worldviews and perspectives, and ● Explore possibilities for preferred personal and
consider their influence on values, actions, and preferred education/employment futures

Class Expectations:

❏ Mandatory attendance
❏ Mandatory sign up for Remind. Pertinent information will be shared this way.
❏ Participation in class discussions.
❏ Respect the confidentiality of the conversations shared in class.
❏ All assignments need to be completed and are due to be handed in the following week unless
otherwise instructed by the teacher.
❏ Final capstone project to be completed and shared with your teacher by March 2, 2019
❏ Final interviews will take place on April 7 & 8th
❏ Exit conversation format can be in the form of:
❏ any presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi etc.,
❏ a personal website (ie: blog)
❏ poster board
❏ other (with teacher permission)
❏ Participation in Capstone fair
❏ Please refer to booklet provided in September for detailed instructions on your capstone project. A
link to a digital version will be posted on the class website.

Capstone Project Additional Requirements:

❏ Mentorship - who has had the most influence on you and your future plans and WHY
❏ Artifact that demonstrates your academic growth (can be anything from Grade 9 to Grade 12)
❏ Artifact that represents your personal story
❏ Answer the question, how has your time at RE Mountain shaped you into becoming the person you
are today and moving forward?

Important Dates

❏ TBD - Capstone proposals due.


❏ October 30th - PSI Day at REMSS in Block 1-1 and Flex
❏ March 2nd - Capstone projects due
❏ April 7th & 8th - Exit interviews & capstone presentations
