BOILER
A boiler is a closed vessel in which fluid (generally water) is heated. The fluid does not
necessarily boil. The heated or vaporized fluid exits the boiler for use in various processes or
heating applications, including water heating central heating, boiler-based power
generation, cooking, and sanitation.
Function
 For generating power in steam engines or steam turbines
 In process industries for various processes.
 For heating the buildings in cold weather and for producing hot water for hot water
supply

STEAM CYCLE

The expansion phase of the basic steam cycle is where steam is expanded in turbines to convert the
thermal energy of steam to the mechanical energy of rotation in the turbines. ... The remaining
main steam is used in Ship's Service Turbine Generators (SSTG) and in some designs by the Main Feed
Pumps (MFP).

EVAPORATION

An evaporator, distiller or distilling apparatus is a piece of ship's equipment used to produce

fresh drinking water from sea water by distillation. As fresh water is bulky, may spoil in storage,
and is an essential supply for any long voyage, the ability to produce more in mid-ocean is
important for any ship.

Function
 For power generator(to run steam turbo generators)
 For running Auxilliary Machinery ( in case os steam shipes )
 For heating duties ( MachineEngine Fuel Oil Heater,Galley,Supply
Purifier,Calirifiers,Galley Accommodation Heatin,SEa chest tracer line for pipeline
heating)

ENERGY CONVERSATION/ENERGY EFFICIENCY

In order to reduce emissions of green house gases from international shipping, the energy
efficiency design index (EEDI) has been made compulsory for all new ships. ... Reduction in fuel
consumption and carbon emissions by using alternative fuels such as LPG is one of the many
ways to achieve the ultimate green ship.

Function
Energy conversation plays a very important role because utilization of non-renewable
resources also impact our environment.Specially usage of fossil fuels supplies to
air, oil, coal, gas,.Combat in power station heating system and engine of ship.

MAIN PROPULSION
Main, or propulsion engines are used to turn the ship's propeller and move the ship through the
water. They typically burn diesel oil or heavy fuel oil, and may be able to switch between the
two. There are many propulsion arrangements for motor vessels, some including multiple
engines, propellers, and gearboxes.

Function
The engine room of a motor vessel typically contains several engines for different purposes. Main, or
propulsion engines are used to turn the ship's propeller and move the ship through the water. ... Smaller,
but still large engines drive electrical generators that provide power for the ship's electrical systems.

AUXILIARY MACHINE

Auxiliary marine machinery includes pumps, compressors, and blowers for circulating fuel and
the fresh water and seawater used in cooling systems, for supplying air to the starting system of
the main engine, for cooling refrigerated holds, and for air-conditioning various parts of
the ship and for refrigeration ...

HVAC/HEATING,VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING

The HVAC system in a ship controls the complete onboard climate. HVAC systems in ships are
very rarely a one size fits all game. ... Limited space, environmental conditions, type of cargo
and the type of vessel all influence the decisions in the process of designing your HVAC system.

Funtion
The main purposse of HVAC is to help maintain good indoor air quality through adequate
ventilation with filtration and provides thermal comfort.

SAFETY OPERATION OF BOILERS

Boiler systems are designed for safety and efficiency. The boiler operator is the key to safe boiler
operations. ... Boiler accidents can occur when the boiler is allowed to operate without adequate
water in the boiler. Proper functioning low water cutoffs are essential to prevent these types of
accidents.

FUEL OIL HEATING

Heating oil is a low viscosity, liquid petroleum product used as a fuel oil for furnaces or boilers
in buildings. ... Most heating oil products are chemically very similar to diesel fuel used as
motor fuel.

Function
The viscosity regulator controls the fuel oil temperature in order to provide the correct
viscosity for combustion. A pressure regulating valve ensures a constant-pressure supply to the
engine-driven pumps, and a pre-warming bypass is used to heat up the fuel before starting the
engine.
