CHAPTER I

Introduction

IT is defined as a generic term that covers the acquisition, processing, storage and
dissemination of information. It is the application of computers and communication
technology in the task of information handling and information flow from the generation
to the utilization levels. Information Technology is defined as hardware and software
products, information system operations and management processes, IT controls
frameworks, and the human resources and skills required to develop, use and control
these products and processes to generate the required information (Greenstein-Prosch,
McKee & Quick, 2008).

In businesses, an effective way to enhance productivity is to boost the level of


technology. Management support plays an important role, manager are the key in
ensuring that technology is used to help the business. Kao et al. (1996) mentioned that
technology is more beneficial when supported by good management systems, and that
technology has a limited contribution to productivity. Business managers have an
important role in planning, controlling, coordinating and leading their employees in
businesses, to assure that the right technologies are brought into the organization.

Business is an economic activity, which is related with continuous and regular


production and distribution of goods and services for satisfying human needs. All of the
people need foods, clothing and shelter. People have many other household requirements
to be satisfied in their daily lives. They get these requirements from the shopkeepers. The
shopkeepers get them from the wholesaler. The whole sales get them from manufacturers.
The shopkeeper, the wholesaler, and the manufacturer are doing business, and therefore
they are called Businessmen.

Technology and Communication helps businesses grow and prosper, it creates


relationships, and it strengthens the effectiveness of organizations, and allows people to
learn about one another. Technologies like Internet, mobile phones, social media, and
customer relationship management systems greatly affect the way companies
communicate with prospective customers. These new forms of communication are
changing the media landscape and the type of messaging strategy organizations use.
Many of the business professionals and consumers seek information and connect with
other people and businesses from their computers and phones.

The development of Information Technology in business has occupied the


attention of researchers in recent years. One established view on business in academic
research is to study business between companies. It takes place in business relationships
of long term orientation. Such business relationships contain elements of business,
information and social elements and there are a number of studies imposing the impact of
information technology on those different elements (cf. Leek et al., 2003, Pires and
Aisbett, 2003, Reunis et al., 2005, Wu et al., 2003).

Statement of the Problem

This study will be guided by the following questions;

1. What are the profiles of the business enterprises in Camiling, Tarlac?

2. What are Information and Communication Technology uses in their


businesses?

3. How Information and Communication Technology affects their operation?

Objectives of the study

In order to investigate the research topic, the researcher will be guided by the following
objectives;

1. To determine the profiles of the business enterprises in Camiling, Tarlac.


2. To determine the Information and Communication Technology uses in their
businesses.

3. To determine Information and Communication Technology affects their


operation.

Hypothesis

H0- There is no profiles of the business enterprises in Camiling, Tarlac.

H1- There is a profile of the business enterprises in Camiling, Tarlac.

H0- Information and Communication Technology don’t have use in their


businesses.

H1- Information and Communication technology have use in their businesses.

H0- Information and Communication Technology don’t have effect in their


operation.

H1- Information and Communication Technology have effect in their operation.

Time and Place of the Study

This study will be conducted from August 2019 to December 2019 at the Tarlac
Agricultural University – Laboratory School.

Significance of the Study

The researcher will be convinced that the study through its research findings would help
to attain the following:

 It would allow for better business decision making.

 It would also go far in helping business enterprises that are still using
manual systems to appreciate the importance of information and communication
technology in the rendition of business work and eventually adopt them.

 This study will support policy makers to come up with strategies of


enhancing information and communication technology and effectiveness of
business enterprises.

Scope and Delimitation

This study will be delimited in the business enterprises in Camiling, Tarlac. The
researchers need randomly Thirty (30) respondents to fulfill their research study.

Definition of Terms

The following terms will be contextually defined to better understanding this study.

Business. The activity of providing goods services involving financial,


commercial, and industrial aspects.

Enterprise. It describe the actions of someone who shows some initiative by


taking a risk by setting up, investing in and running a business.

Information and Communication Technology. It refers to technologies that


provide access to information through telecommunications. It is similar to Information
Technology (IT), but focuses primarily on communication technologies.
