Review
Before the numbers emerged, the man managed to count, using objects such as stones,
wooden sticks, rope knots, or just fingers. Later graphic symbols began to appear as signs to
count, for example, marks on a stick or just specific strokes on the sand.
In this time review, we will see how mathematics have evolved progressively thanks to
the different contributions of multiple mathematicians who have allowed its evolution.
Mathematics is born from the need of primitive man to know and dominate the world, in
addition to explain the natural phenomena and climate change around him. By nature, man has
had in his predefined head the concept of space and quantity and not only he also, animals also 6
At the year 6000 BC, the man began to settle on the banks of the Nile River. Thanks to the
fertility of these lands for agriculture, they devoted themselves to observe and account for the
periods of overflow of the Nile and in addition to this, the lunar phases in order to establish
calendars and take advantage of this in the crops. 2000 years later, the first vestiges of the
numbers appeared that consisted of engravings of signals in the form of wedges on small clay
boards using a sharp stick for it and 500 years later they wrote multiplication tables on clay
Towards the year 2000 BC, Clear references began to appear that cited approximations for π and
square roots. The relationships of the exact number, arithmetic tables, the problems of algebra
and practical applications with weights and measures also began to appear around that year. In
1650 BC, there is the Papyrus of Rhind, a fundamental Egyptian mathematical text, where it
provides formulas to calculate areas and methods for multiplication, division and work with unit
numbers and cousins, arithmetic, geometric and other media. Around 600 to 500 BC we find
Thales of Miletus, Mathematician, Greek geometer. Considered one of the seven wise men of
Greece. Inventor of Thales' Theorem; Pythagoras, with his theorem of Pythagoras and until 300
BC, was the age of Greek mathematics, where they dealt with geometry, where they
contemplated the numbers as measures of length. We find Euclid, which is known as "The
Father of Geometry", around 300 BC. He develops theorems by discovering the relationship
between the surface and the volume of a sphere and the cylinder that circumscribes it.
Archimedes to the year 220 BC known with the Archimedean Principle, which is that everybody
submerged in a fluid, undergoes a vertical and upward thrust equal to the weight of fluid that 7
dislodges. Franciscus Vieta, in 1540 D.C. French mathematician, precursor of algebra, initiates
representation of mathematical equations, using letters of the alphabet. René Descartes makes
his contribution with analytical geometry around 1600 AD. In the mid-seventeenth century,
Newton in England and Leibniz in Germany invented the calculation, which is the study of
movement and change. Thanks to this, mathematicians were able to study the movement of
planets and the fall of bodies on earth, the work of machines, the flow of liquids, the expansion
of gases, physical forces such as magnetism and electricity, flight, the growth of plants and
animals, the spread of epidemics, the fluctuation of economic benefits, and many other dynamic
phenomena and processes. After Newton and Leibniz, mathematics became the study of number,
form, movement, change and space. After Newton and Leibniz, mathematics became the study
of number, form, movement, change and space. From about the middle of the eighteenth
century, there was a growing interest in mathematics itself, and not just in its applications, as
mathematicians wanted to understand what remained behind the enormous power that
calculation provided for humanity. The ancient Greek tradition of formal demonstration takes
precedence, as much of the pure mathematics of the present was developed. Later around 1800
AD, Gauss contributed notably in several areas of mathematics, in which the theory of numbers,
mathematical analysis, differential geometry. He invented the Gaussian Method, which he used
to solve systems of three linear equations with three unknowns. At the end of the 19th century,
