Abstract
Medium used for prepackaged foods today contains a l variation of petroleum-derived plastic polymer,
metals, glass, paper and board, or combinations thereof. Among these prepackaged materials, plastic is
found to be the best because of its long life properties. Thus, its exertion is gets bigger every day by day.
However, plastics cannot be reduced by natural processes in a short period of time; therefore, they are
left as plastic waste, causing environmental difficulty. Techniques commonly used to eliminate other
classification of waste such as burning and burying are inappropriate for plastic elimination. In
reciprocation to these concerns related with plastic waste, there has been substantial interest in the growth
and manufacturing of biodegradable plastics. In this work, a biodegradable plastic was produced by
blending cassava peel starch as a natural biodegradable polymer. The potential of producing
biodegradable prepackaged plastic film from cassava peel starch is motivated and should be further
investigated especially in a country with high cassava production, like Philippines.
Keywords: Manihot Escolenta, biodegradable polymers, plastic waste reduction.
Practical Application: Use of cassava peel starch for the production of products such as biodegradable
polymers (bioplastics).

I. Introduction
Nowadays, plastics is one of the biggest pollutant
on earth. It results in different environmental
