Title:

Design of an absorbed trayed tower to natural gas dehydration using triethylene glycol (TEG) in
a plant of Camisea.
Estado del arte

In recent years there are many ways to dehydrate natural gas, so the increasing competition among
processors is based on the efficiency of moisture removal, which raises various tentative ideas
that still do not have a defined process, however in the The project aims to size an absorption
column with the determination of the optimal flow of triethylene glycol, the operating parameters
and the determination of the water content.

The design of the absorption column, once the TEG concentration is established, the TEG purity,
the water removal efficiency, the number of stages of stages; The methods for correctly estimating
the size of the column is crucial since it requires rigorous methods to correlate the efficiency of
water removal as a function of the TEG circulation speed and the TEG purity for proper sizing of
the absorber.

Dehydration with triethylene glycol (TEG) is used in natural gas processing to prevent corrosion
and plugging of flow lines. Natural gas is an important fossil fuel commodity that was once
considered an unwanted byproduct of crude oil production.
Natural gas that emerges from the wellhead of the reservoir is defined as “wet gas”. This “wet
gas” obtained at different geographical locations generally has different amount of gas
constituents .It normally contains methane, other hydrocarbons than methane, hydrogen sulphide,
carbon dioxide, and water.

Tri Ethylene Glycol (TEG) in particular is the most widely used glycol given its regeneration
capability, high water affinity, high chemical stability, high hygroscopicity, low vapor pressure,
low evaporation loss rate, and low thermal degradation rates in the regeneration system (Bahadori
et al., 2008; Rincon et al., 2016)

The presence of hydroxyl groups in glycols leads to the formation of hydrogen bonds, which are
essentially the bonds that are present in between water molecules; thus making glycol a good
absorb for water (Paymooni et al., 2011).

Currently, the dehydration of natural gas by absorption using glycol is the most economically
attractive, since it requires less energy in relation to adsorption, although both processes can be
used to obtain dry natural gas with an identical dew point (Bahadori, 2014) .
Some non-TEG glycols have also been used for dehydration, such as monoethylene glycol
(MEG), diethylene glycol (DEG) and tetraethylene glycol (TREG). However, these glycols are
rarely used because of the difficulty in reaching the specified water content for natural gas in the
pipeline.
Thus, to achieve a more complete water removal, several alternative options (processes) to
enhance the glycol (e.g., TEG) purity have been developed. Stripping gas injection, Stahl column,
and Coldfinger technology are some of the well known processes to improve the purity limit on
regenerated glycol.

Currently industries (simple or complex) has a dehydration unit. There are different alternatives
for natural gas dehydration. Reviews can find some techniques used.
Liquid desiccant adsorption techniques that typically use TEG, solid desiccant adsorption with
silica gel, alumina or molecular sieves as adsorbent, and cooling / cooling with glycols / methanol

In terms of sales, the content of water in natural gas is 4 lb of water per million feet cubic of
stream. For this reason, this process has relevance to economic aspect of the Camisea plant.
