Front Wheel Brakes

SMCS - 4256-16; 4256-11; 4256-12; 4256-15

Remove Front Wheel Brakes

start by:

a) remove tires and rims

1. Disconnect the brake line (1).

2. Install a 1/2"-13NC forged eyebolt in the brake head and fasten a hoist.

3. Remove the bolts (2) that hold head on spindle. Remove the brake head. Weight is 65 lb. (29 kg).

Install Front Wheel Brakes

1. Fasten a hoist to the brake head. Put the head (1) in position on disc (2).

2. Install the bolts that fasten the head to the spindle. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 225 ± 30 lb.ft.
(31,1 ± 4,1 mkg).

3. Connect the brake line to the head.

4. Let the air out of the brake system with tool (A). See BLEEDING THE BRAKES IN TESTING
AND ADJUSTING.

Disassemble Front Wheel Brakes

start by:

a) remove front wheel brakes

1. Loosen bolts (1). Pull the pin (2) out and remove brake linings (3).

2. Remove caps that hold two of the pistons in the brake.

3. Remove four pistons (4) and boots (5) from brake.

4. Remove seals from the piston bores (6) in the brake.

5. Remove O-ring seals from the caps (7).

Assemble Front Wheel Brakes

1. Install a new seal in the four piston bores of the brake.

2. Install boots (1) in the piston bores with the lip of the boot in the groove of the bore.

3. Install the four pistons in the bores of the brake through boots (1). Put the lip of the boot (1) in
position in the groove in the pistons (2).

4. Install a new O-ring seal on caps (3). Install the caps.

5. Install the brake linings (6) and pin (5). Tighten bolt (4).
