Eating chicken ‘can
reduce cancer risk’

Swapping your beef for chicken

Police have clarified that local musician Micheal Kalinda aka Zigy Wyne died in a road accident could keep you clear of breast cancer,
say scientists.
Researchers from the National
Institute of Environmental Health
Sciences in the U.S. found eating more
red meat was associated with a greater
risk of developing invasive breast
cancer.
Conversely, eating more poultry
such as chicken, turkey and duck was
linked to a decreased risk of it.
“Our study adds further evidence
that red meat consumption may be
associated with increased risk of breast
cancer whereas poultry was associated
with decreased risk,” said Dr Dale P.
Sandler, who led the study published
in the International Journal of Cancer.
“While the mechanism through
which poultry consumption decreases
breast cancer risk is not clear, our
study does provide evidence that
Treasury Secretary Keith Muhakanizi has clashed with Minister Evelyn Anite over audit on Uganda Telecom ltd
substituting poultry for red meat
may be a simple change that can help
reduce the incidence of breast cancer”,
said Dr Sandler.
In a follow-up, 1,536 cases of
invasive breast cancer were diagnosed.
Women who consumed the highest
amount of red meat were found to
have a 23 per cent higher risk of the
cancer than those who consumed the
lowest amount.
This is not the first time an
association has been made between
red meat and breast cancer or the
protective effects of eating poultry.
A Harvard School of Public Health-
led study published in the British
Medical Journal in 2014 found a link
between a higher red meat intake during
early adulthood and an increased risk of
developing breast cancer.

Bobi Wine’s People Power group and his

The 30-year old Zigy Wyne, real name

days after he was discovered in Mulago
National referral Hospital, badly bruised
with burns on the body, two fingers
missing and left eye in a patch.
The story made international

His left eye was plucked out, two of

they do not favour any of the current

Up to 47% said they would not vote

because the MPs are pursuing their own
interests and those of their constituency.
Another Research World International
poll released in February 2016 showed
that up to 47% of Ugandans do not trust
the Uganda Police. There have been
many incidences where government
communication agencies have clashed,
exposing a state in disarray.
In June, when a plane carrying new
currency notes ordered by Bank of
Uganda landed at Entebbe International
Airport in the so-called “BoU currency
Saga,” the Government Spokesperson,
Ofwono Opondo, publicly lambasted
the Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga,
over the handling of information on the
investigation.
Ofwono Opondo told journalists: “It
is wrong for Enanga to tell the public
that extra money was smuggled in.”
And Enanga told journalists:
“As police, we stand by our first
investigations, which involved the
raid on the homes of the [BoU] officials
where we recovered the exhibits…”
In another incident in early July,
Attorney General William Byaruhanga,
his deputy, Mwesigwa Rukutana,
publicly squabbled with the Minister
of state for Privatization, Evelyn Anite,
over the fate of the Administrator
of the failing Uganda Telecom Ltd,
BemanyaTwebaze, until President
Museveni had to intervene.
In the latest tug-of-war, the Minister
of Health, Ruth Aceng, her Permanent
Secretary Diana Atwiine, and MPs
on Parliament’s Committee on the
Economy were left stranded at the
construction site of the controversial
Lubowa Specialised Hospital after the
entrance was blocked with a grader to
stop them from accessing the site. The
PS/Secretary to the Treasury, Keith
Muhakanizi, had earlier on Aug. 02
advised them not to attempt to enter the

What emerges is a pattern of
squabbles between government officials
and institutions that leaves the public
unsure of what is going on and what is
true or fake.

new Ebola drugs with dramatic
results. For newly infected patients

dropped to 6 percent.
Amid unrelenting chaos and violence,
scientists and doctors in the Democratic

clinical trial of new drugs to try to combat
a year-long Ebola outbreak. On Aug.12,
the trial’s cosponsors at the World Health
