Broad Outline of Dairy Development Course for the

Participants of IRMA

 Course Duration

Full Credit Course with 20 Sessions of 90 minutes each

 Course Objectives

The course objective is to provide in-depth understanding of dairying from Indian


farmers’ perspective. At the same time it will also orient participants on managerial
aspects of dairying in India. Some of the key topics to be covered in the course are
as followed

 Appreciating uniqueness of milk as a commodity and its significance in Indian


economy
 Importance of dairying and its evolution over the years as livelihood option for
Indian Farmers
 Developments in dairy Industry in terms of strengthening the dairy value chain,
focussing on satisfying consumer need and ensuring remunerative returns to
Indian Farmers
 Relevance of farmer owned institutions in dairying
 Emerging trends in international dairying scenario and its impact on Indian
dairying

 Pedagogy

The pedagogy shall consist of Classroom sessions, assignments and exposure


visits. The study material will include research articles and papers/reports by
sector specialists as reference material for classroom discussion and presentations
by faculty members.

 Outcomes

At the end of the course participants would be able to appreciate dairying as a


socio-economic activity and development tool in rural India and its role over time
and space in the development of the country.

In future, participants would be able to apply learning and exposure from the
course in their professional lives while taking up managerial role in different
markets of agri-commodities.

 Evaluation criteria

The participants will be evaluated for their analytical, descriptive and presentation
abilities through classroom participation, quizzes, assignments and end term exam.
Quizzes will assess participants for their developed understanding of the sector
through the given reading materials and conducted sessions. Assignments will
assess participants for their ability to contextualise and utilise the knowledge
gained from overall learning over the entire duration of PRM programme.
End-term examination will assess the participants on their ability to grasp and
analyse data for creating meaningful information. It will not only require
participants to focus on assessing the specific academic learnings from the course
but also will require them to think like a practitioner who is an analyst, planner,
co-operator, leader and an effective communicator.

The participants shall be evaluated in the following manner:
