INTRODUCTION

 Background of the Study

Interface Computer College formerly known as Interface Computer Learning Center was
established in 1982. It then became a college in 1994 when IT-related programs were added to its short
term courses. All the programs and courses offered are duly recognized and authorized by Commission
of Higher Education (CHED) and Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) .In today’s living,
most educators find it easy to have an online grading system in their school because it promotes a
strong home-school connection and allow busy parents to get involved to their child’s academic
performance.

Online grading system is a web-based application that can be used to create report cards, class
grade list and roll sheet attendance report. Also, online grading system is a system where the teachers
encode grades via the internet. It allows immediate access to grade, and has often user friendly features
wherein parents have a complete access to all grades as they are posted all the anytime.

Many teachers feel that the time they take in recording and computing for the grades of their
students is time that could be better spend elsewhere, like preparing lessons, researching or meeting
with their students.

With the advent of computer technology, more and more schools are taking advantage of a
variety of grading system available both off-line and online that can help save time on administrative
tasks and give teachers more time to attend to other important functions. However, a greater majority,
especially small schools, government schools, and schools in remote areas, still utilize the manual
method of recording and computing for the grades of the students.

Teachers also say that having an online grading system makes it easier for them to input the
grades of their students whenever or wherever they want to. If grades are made available to parents on
the internet, they will access to the specifics about the academic performance of their child. Parents and
teachers will be able to communicate with each other on a regular basis with the use of an online
grading program.

For the reason, schools use grading systems to communicate with students and parents about
student performance. Grades are meant to be concrete evaluation of student knowledge. Like in high
school and elementary. They get the average of the grades in each subjects using different percentage
through they give a consideration if the students are failing on certain subjects.

 Objective of the study

 General Objective
 To design and develop an Online Grading and Grade Viewing System for the College of
Computer Studies.
 Specific Objective
 Specifically, the system aims to:
 Design a database management system wherein all required information is stored such
as:
 Student Information
 User Account Information
 Class Schedule
 Faculty Information
 Guidance Information
 Develop a module that will compute the grade of the student in attendance, project or
research, major exams, and quizzes.
 Develop a module that will allow the students to view their grades online.

 Scope and Limitation of the Study

 Scope The system will cover the following:
 Register all the important information needed as follows:
 Student Information
 User Account Information
 Class Schedule
 Faculty Information
 Guidance Information
 Allow students to view grade online
 Generate reports as list of students, grade sheet, class record and referral submitted by the
faculty.
 Computerize data processing such as:
 Computation and submission of grades including prelim, midterm and final.
 Submission of student candidate for referral to guidance office
 Import and export grade sheet in excel file format.

 The limitation of the following;

 The system doesn’t include online registration
 The system cannot print the student’s grades

 Significance of the Study

 The result of this study is beneficial to the following:
 Students. This would benefit the students who will commence similar studies as they can
get related knowledge to help improve their research. And students can know if they need
to excel in their class even at home.

 Professors. Professors would be able to record and compute for the grades of their students
faster thereby lessening their workload.

 Guidance Counselor. It can help them lessen their tasks in regards with notifying the
parents of candidate for referral.
 Parents/Guardian. It can help them monitor the grades of their children online.
 School Administrator. School Administrators no longer have to re-compute the grades of
each student to check on their accuracy. Reports such as grading sheets and class records
can be submitted on time.

 Future Researcher. This Online Grading and Grade Viewing System may serve as a reference
for the future researchers for the improvement of the system in the near future. This study
will serve as training for the proponents, to enhance their skills in web development.

 System Functionality:

 Administrator account

 Encode/update/delete subject’s info

 Encode/update/delete class info Ex: BSIT 3-A
 Encode/update/delete student Ex: Juan Dela Cruz – BSIT 3-A (this module will add a student
to a certain class)
 Encode/update/delete teachers Ex: John Doe – BSIT 3-A (this module will add the teacher to
the certain class, which means all students under that class will be the students of the
teacher

 Teachers

 View Class and students on that class

 Encode student grades based on the criteria you’ve given
 Print student class per list
 Print student grade reports

 Students

 Log in to view their grades
