REINFORCED CONCRETE

Concrete in which the material's undesirably low tensile

strength and elasticity are counteracted by the inclusion
of reinforcing structures that have high tensile strength.

Concrete has high compressive strength.

Steel has high tensile strength.

The most common material used for tensile reinforcement

is the steel reinforcing bar or Rebar.

CUTTING LIST

“ your Partner in Total Value-Engineered Construction ”

WHAT IS A REBAR CUTTING LIST?

1. A shop drawing showing:

a.) diagrams of rebar profiles and
b.) tabulations of rebar quantities.
 The diagrams show the fabrication product, rebar
designations, dimensions, and details.
 The tabulations show the cut weight and commercial
weight.

PURPOSE OF REBAR CUTTING LISTS

1. Minimize rebar wastage by optimizing the usage of

commercially available lengths,
2. Easy quantification of commercial and cut weight,

3. Used as basis for rebar fabrication (cutting and bending),

4. Guide for rebar installation, and
5. May be used as inspection tool.

INSPECTION TIPS
1. Always count the installed rebars.
2. Know how to differentiate one bar diameter from the other just by
looking.
3. Measure the length of splices and hooks.
4. Check the shape of hooks.
5. Installed rebars should match plans or cutting lists.
6. Make sure concrete spacers are in place.
7. All tied joints should be secure.
8. Check for severely rusted rebars. Use steel brush to remove rust.
Apply rust remover if necessary.

ESTIMATING

HOW TO COMPUTE THE WEIGHT OF REBARS

Weight = (Unit Wt.) x (Length) x No. of pcs.

W kg = 6.313 kg/m x 6 m x 151 pcs

W = 5,719.58 kg

MECHANICAL
COUPLERS

“ your Partner in Total Value-Engineered Construction ”

MECHANICAL COUPLERS

Mechanical couplers are used to join rebars

together. One of the two rebars being connected
must be free to move and can be rotated. They
eliminate lap splicing of rebars and decongest the
area, allowing easier installation.
Studies show that mechanical couplers offer cost
savings for rebar diameters 25mm and above.
Rebar coupler system should have a strength of
125Fy.

REBAR SAFETY

Plate caps or mushroom caps are used to prevent

scratches or impalement of people.

PRACTICAL TIPS

“ your Partner in Total Value-Engineered Construction ”

PRACTICAL TIPS
1. Use “Serga” on columns.
2. Do not install columns and shear wall rebars 2 or three floors
above the active floor.
3. Some structural designers do not require shear bars if the
construction joint falls on L/3.
4. The purpose of tying rebars with tie wires is to prevent
movement during casting/concrete pouring.
5. You should be able to differentiate the rebars by diameter just
by looking at it. (Yes, kailangan i-memorize yan)
