Chapter 2 Summary
The test equipment simulates damage caused by solar ultraviolet light, the material is subjected to weather
resistance test by exposing the test material to light under controlled high temperature. It uses ultraviolet
light tubes to simulate the radiation of sunlight, simulate dew and rain by condensation and water spray, in
just a few days or weeks, UV-irradiation equipment can reproduce damage that takes months or even years
outside. Includes fading, color change, tarnishing, powdering, cracking, wrinkling, Foaming, embrittlement,
strength reduction, oxidation, etc. The test results can be used to select new materials, improve existing
materials, or estimate changes in material formulation.

This device can only be used indoors. Environmental requirements are as follows:
Room temperature: Better 70 °F (21 °C)~ 80 °F (27 °C).
Ventilation: Do not place the device in a place with strong airflow, otherwise the
temperature difference between the two ends of the device will be greatly affected.
Transportation and storage temperature: -40 ° C ~ 80 ° C
Pollution Control: II
Noise level: no more than 74dBA
Altitude: below 2000m
Operation: Continuous

3.1 Power requirement

Voltage: 220V, ensuring the laboratory voltage is within 220V±10%
Power:4.5KW
Frequency: 50Hz/60Hz
Power switch: The chamber built-in 25A circuit breaker
Power socket: The power socket should be as close as possible to the chamber. It
is better not use an extension cord.

3.2 Water requirements

Note: Water is not required when running the irradiation test.
3.2.1 Condensing system
Water is required for condensation, and the automatic water inlet is PVC 4 minute
(20mm) outer threaded joint.
Purity: Both of the distilled water and ordinary water or ok. The water vapor of to
test sample is distilled from the water in the water tray. Distilled or deionized water
will reduce solid impurities at the bottom of the pan. Do not use water softeners to
pretreat water. Softening water increases the corrosiveness of water.
Water volume: About 8 liters water per day
Connection: Use the external threaded pipe (20mm) connect the external water
source to the equipment inlet and outlet.
Water level adjustment: The water level has been adjusted before leaving the
factory, about 20mm to 25mm from the bottom of the water tray.

3.2.2 Water sprinkler system

Spray water requirement
Purity: Pure water spray. The pH of the water should be between 6.0 and 8.0,
the resistivity of the spray water should greater than 200kohms-cm. Need
deionization, distillation or filtration. Low purity water will cause sample spots or
orifices to clog. In order to avoid pollution, all pipes, valves and other devices of the
purification equipment require stainless steel or plastic products, and do not use iron,
steel, copper, or brass.
Pressure: Pressurize with a high-power stainless steel pump to ensure the flow
rate and uniformity of the spray.
Water volume: 7 litres of water (LPM) per minute.
3.2.3 Water discharge
Water tray cleaning: The drain pipe has been installed in the lower part of the
machine. This water pipe must be closed while the machine is running. The water in
the water tray needs to be emptied when cleaning and maintenance, the water pipe
should be open at this point.
Water tray overflow: When the equipment is running the spray test, the water
will be stored in the water tray. When the water exceeds the overflow in the water
tray, the water will flow back to the water tank from the overflow.
Cleaning of the water tank: When clean the water tank, the equipment must be
in a stopped state, and the power supply must be disconnected. Open the drain valve,
and the water in the water tank will be directly discharged from the water outlet (20
mm outer threaded pipe).
Chapter 4 UV illumination system
4.1 Type of lamp
The device uses ultraviolet fluorescent tube to simulate the damage caused by
daylight. There are 2 types tubes: UVA-340 and UVB-313(Subject to device
configuration). All tubes are analog to visible light, and all tubes are 40W.
The difference between the tubes are energy and wavelength. Different energy or
wavelength have large impact on the test results. Below are the characteristics of the
tubes.
UVA-340 tube

It emits a wavelength of sunlight from 315 nm to 400 nm, and its radiation peak is at
340 nm. It is especially useful for control tests of different tests, with the best
simulation of sunlight in the short-wave UV range.

UVB-313 tube
The wavelength range is between 280 nm and 315 nm. UVB-313 ages faster than
UVA-340 tubes.
4.2 UV cycle temperature control
UV circulation system includes blower, air heater, air distribution system, blackboard
temperature sensor.
Blower: Installed in the lower air duct of the equipment, the blower works
continuously throughout the UV cycle.
Air heater: Installed in the air duct above the blower to heat the air blown by the
blower when needed.
Air distribution system: The air blown by the blower enters the test chamber
through the air duct in the center of the water tray, and then be guided by the air
distribution system to fill the entire chamber.

Chapter 5 Moisture system

The UV aging test chamber simulates the outdoor moisture effect through a
condensing system, and can simulate outdoor rain through spray tests.
5.1 Condensation
Principle of QUV condensing system: Evaporated water vapor is limited to the
experimental box by the sample box of the chamber. During the condensation cycle,
the water is heated by the heating element in the water pan, and filled with the test
chamber. At 100% humidity, the water vapor is continuously condensed on the sample
and finally flows back into the water pan.
5.2 Water spray
The equipment spray on the surface of the sample, to test the level of resistance to
temperature shock or corrosion of the sample. The sprinkler system has 8 orifices (4
per side) and the orifice is located between the UV tubes. They only spray when the
tube is not lit.

Chapter 7 Routine maintenance
7.1 Replace tube
Firstly, ensure that the power of the chamber is disconnected, and take out the sample
holder, then open the side doors on both sides, remove the plugs on both sides of the
tube, and slowly pull out the tube from one side. Sometimes the new tube will emit a
flashing or spiraling light, it won’t affect the spectrum of the tube.
7.2 Clean studio (every 3~6 months) and water tank
When cleaning, first take out the tube on one side and then clean the water tray. The
purity of the water directly affects the spray effect. If there is any debris in the water
in the tank, it may cause the nozzle to clog or even cause the spray pump to
malfunction. Therefore, the water tank and nozzle must be cleaned frequently.
Chapter 8 Malfunction repair
When replacing parts of the equipment, be sure to use the products supplied or
recommended by the manufacturer. If the user uses parts that are not approved by
the equipment manufacturer, the equipment manufacturer is not responsible for the
consequences.
8.1 Spray failure
If the spray test is turned on but the water pressure is insufficient, the water sprayed
is small, please adjust the pressure regulator valve(ie, the gate valve) above the water
pump to increase pressure. Rotate clockwise to increase pressure and counterclockwise
to decrease pressure. If the pump is in the starting state but there is no water
squirting, and there is still no water squirting after adjusting the valve. Please inject
water into the pump (when do this job, must ensure that the power is disconnected),
and then continue the spray experiment.
Check the water level of the water tank to ensure that the water level is more than
half
Check if the nozzle is blocked
Replace the pressure regulating valve

8.2 The automatic water inlet valve out of order.

When the controller indicates that the automatic water inlet has been turned off, and
water still enters the water tank, please clean the automatic water inlet valve, as
follows:
After the cleaning is completed, restoration of each part, tighten the screws to pass the
water.
