SKIPPING BREAKFAST AND QUIZ SCORES IN THE FIRST THREE
SUBJECTS

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

“Breakfast is often described as the most important meal of the day as it provides

the needed nutrition and energy for the activities we have every day.” Vashisht (2018). It

is also a must for us to eat our breakfast since our mind works well when our tummy’s full.

It also helps us to have an energetic body; keeping us active and productive. A morning

meal also helps us improve our concentration especially for the students who need to be

active and participative during classes.

According to Taha and Rashed (2017) “Breakfast can affect the learning and

academic performance of students.”Breakfast is a necessary for all of us and skipping

breakfast would bring negative effects to us. According to Wright and Larsen (2011),

studies shows that people who take their breakfast tend to perform well at task and they

have more energy throughout the day. Breakfast also improves children’s “cognitive

function, attention, and memory”and when you skip your morning meal, children are “less

able to differentiate among visual images, show increased errors, and have slower memory

recall” (FRAC).

Moreover, the study in Abu Dhabi uses two private schools with the same studying

hours - 7:30 in the morning to 2:30 in the afternoon – and also with both the same

curriculum that have been assigned by the UAE Ministry of Education just to assure that

the results would be accurate. And according to the analysis of Taha and Rashed (2017)

“There is a big differences beetwen breakfast eater and breakfast skipper to their academic

performances, and as compared to other variables, breakfast intake has a big significance

with the scores of the students.”
