hydralazine

Classification: vasodilators

Action: Direct-acting peripheral arteriolar vasodilator

Contraindicated in:
 Hypersensitivity;
 Some products contain tartrazine and should be avoided in patients with known intolerance.

Nursing care

Monitor BP and pulse frequently during initial dose adjustment and periodically during therapy. About
50–65% of Caucasians, Black, South Indians, and Mexicans are slow acetylators at risk for toxicity, while
80–90% of Eskimos, Japanese, and Chinese are rapid acetylators at risk for decreased levels and
treatment failure.

Monitor frequency of prescription refills to determine adherence.

Hyoscine Butylbromide

CLASSIFICATION: antispasmodic

Action: Hyoscine Butylbromide is aquaternary ammoniumantimuscarinic agent.Hyoscine


butylbromidedoes not readily pass theblood-brain barrier. It¶s acompetitive antagonist of the actions of
acetylcholineand other muscarinicagonists. The receptorsaffected are those of peripheral structures
thatare either stimulated or inhibited by muscarine, ie.exocrine glands, smoothand cardiac muscle.

CONTRAINDICATION

 Hypersensitivity tohyoscine butylbromide


 Porphyria
 Myasthenia gravis
 Prostatic enlargement,paralytic ileus or pyloricstenosis and fever
 Closed angle glaucoma,or narrow angle betweenthe iris and cornea, ashyoscine increases intra-
ocular pressure
 pregnant and lactatingmothers

Nursing Care:

 Be alert for adversereactions and druginteractions.


 Assess for eye pain
 Assess for urinaryhesitancy
 Assess for constipation
 Monitor urine output
 Encourage patient tovoid.
 Monitor BP for possiblehypertension.
 For pregnant women,monitor cervicaleffacement anddilatation
