1. a) Draw an Oscillography waveform for showing variation of a short circuit current of an 7


alternator subjected to a sudden three phase short circuit. Explain the roles of sub –
transient time constants, sub – transient reactance and steady state reactance with the help
of the same.

b) Explain P – d curve and phase diagram for a salient pole synchronous machine under 7
steady state condition commenting on the effect of saliency.

2. a) Given a salient pole generator with terminal voltage Va = 1.00º , armature current 8
Ia = 1.0− 45, Xd = 1, Xq = 0.6 . Find the open – circuit voltage Ea also draw phasor
diagram for the same neglect resistance.

b) Write the matrix equation for the flux linkages of synchronous machine. Explain each 6
term clearly. Also write the equation for stator and rotor self inductance.
