CONCRETE QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM
AYC-RSLF-CQCP-001 Rev #000 Title: CONCRETE QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAM RSLF-AC

1. Purpose:

This concrete quality control program (CQCP) guidance document provides information about concrete
material related quality control (QC) practices for the Royal Saudi land Forces-Artillery brigade base project
with significant concrete features. It is intended to serve as a guide for developing a CQCP for concrete
used for construction of significant concrete features of the project.

3. Details of Company, Plant & Personnel’s:

Contractor: Al Yamama Company for Trading & Contracting

CQC Personnel: Nijas M

Batch Plant CQC personnel:

Field Technicians: Khasif Mohammed (ACI Certified Technician Grade 1)

Plant: Saudi ready mix Plant (013 839 1410) (Note: Provide resume of QC Officer and technicians)

The mix for the Artillery brigade base project will be manufactured by Saudi ready mix plant in their plant
which is located at sihat area, Dammam. Established in 1978 Saudi ready mix plant is the leading company
of ready mix concrete and related products with various approvals 7 ratings from clients like Saudi Aramco,
Royal commission, SABIC, MODA, SEC etc. The plant has a total production capacity of 100m3 and has
ready mix truck of capacity 10m3/12m3 around 20nos.8 mobile concrete pumps with boom sizes of 42-58m
QC Officer of Al-Yamama will have overall responsibility and authority for Quality Control at both the plant
and at the site and will make needed adjustments in the mix production, sampling, and testing to assure
that the mix is manufactured and sampled in conformance with the Standard Specifications and the Special
Provisions. In the event of (QC Officer’s name) absence, (name of backup QC Officer) will be in charge of
Overall Quality Control, provided he has the necessary qualifications and has been approved by the
USACE.

4. Laboratory:

The laboratory for the concrete testing’s will be m/s ACES provided site laboratory. The laboratory size is
10m x 10m and will be located in the mobilization area. The laboratory in the site will be in accordance with
ASTM C1077 and the laboratory will have the following equipment’s for concrete testing.

1. Concrete compressive strength machine

2. Sampling Apparatus-Conforming to ASTM C470

3. Temperature control curing tanks will be steel tanks and curing the specimens at the site while in
the mold within the temperature range stipulated by ASTM C31/C31M.

4. Slump Test Apparatus-Conforming to ASTM C143

5. Air Content Equipment-Conforming to ASTM C 231 or C 173

6. Scales—Scales for determining the mass of batches of materials and concrete shall be accurate
within 0.3 % of the test load at any point within the range of use.

7. Temperature Measuring Device—The temperature measuring device shall conform to the

requirements of Test Method C 1064.

The strength requirement for the Artillery base brigade project is 28Mpa for cast in site concrete and for the
precast work its 35Mpa.
COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH STRUCTURE OR PORTION OF STRUCTURE
28Mpa Cast in Place structures
34.5Mpa Precast Structures

The USACE will be notified prior to the preparation of the Test Batch that the lab is ready for inspection. At
the time of preparing of the Test Batch the lab, sampling, and curing facilities, will be installed and
approved. In the event of laboratory equipment breakdown, the equipment will be repaired or replaced
immediately or the mix production will be shut down until the equipment is in working order.

5. Materials and Inspection

The materials used in the manufacture of the concrete for the project shall be from approved sources.
Certification will be obtained from each vendor and furnished to the Engineer to cover the quantity and
quality of all materials used. Samples of aggregates will be obtained at the point of batching in accordance
with ASTM D75/D75M. Other materials will be sampled from storage at the jobsite or from other locations
as considered appropriate. Samples may be placed in storage for later testing when appropriate. Listed
below are the sources of each material proposed for use in the mix:

1.cement
2.Fine & coarse Aggregates.
3.Admixtures
4.Water

Portland Cement

ASTM C150/C150M, Type I with a maximum 10 percent amount of tri calcium aluminate, and a maximum
cement-alkali content of 0.80 percent Na2Oe (sodium oxide) equivalent will be used for all concrete not in
contact with earth. For all concrete in contact with soil, use ASTM C150/C150M Type V cement with a
water cement ratio less than or equal to 0.40 and a maximum water-soluble chloride ion content of 0.15
percent by weight of the cement content of the concrete.

Storage

Store cement and other cementitious materials in weather tight buildings, bins, or silos that exclude
moisture and contaminants and keep each material completely separated. Cement shall conform to ASTM
C 150.

Aggregates

Fine aggregates and coarse aggregates used for concrete mix shall be evaluated for alkali-aggregate
reactivity in accordance with ASTM C1260. The fine and coarse aggregates will be evaluated separately
and in combination for the proposed mix design proportioning. All results of the separate and combination

testing must have a measured expansion less than 0.10 (0.08) percent at 16 days after casting. Should the
test data indicate an expansion of 0.10 (0.08) percent or greater, the aggregate(s) shall be rejected and
perform additional testing using ASTM C1260 and ASTM C1567. Perform the additional testing using
ASTM C1260 and ASTM C1567 using the low alkali Portland cement in combination with ground
granulated blast furnace (GGBF) slag, or Class F fly ash. Use GGBF slag in the range of 40 to 50 percent
of the total cementitious material by mass. Use Class F fly ash in the range of 25 to 40 percent of the total
cementitious material by mass.

Storage

All aggregates at the concrete plant will be stockpiled by the “single layer/pushed” or “multi-layered truck”
method. Arrange and use aggregate stockpiles in a manner to avoid excessive segregation and to prevent
contamination with other materials or with other sizes of aggregates. Do not store aggregate directly on
ground unless a sacrificial layer is left undisturbed. Aggregates shall conform to ASTM C33. Aggregates
used in concrete shall be obtained from the same sources and have the same size range as the
aggregates used in the concrete represented by submittal or trial mixtures.

Store other materials in a manner to avoid contamination and deterioration. Admixtures which have been in
storage at the project site for longer than 6 months or which have been subjected to freezing cannot be
used unless retested and proven to meet the specified requirements. Materials must be capable of being
accurately identified after bundles or containers are opened.

Admixtures

Accelerating Admixture

ASTM C494/C494M, Type C or E.

Water-Reducing or Retarding Admixture

ASTM C494/C494M, Type A, B, or D.

High-Range Water Reducer

ASTM C494/C494M, Type F or G.

Surface Retarder

ASTM C309. Samples of surface retarder material with manufacturer's instructions for application in
conjunction with air-water cutting will be submitted for government approval.

Expanding Admixture

Aluminium powder type expanding admixture conforming to ASTM C937.

WATER

Water complying with the requirements of ASTM C1602/C1602M will be used for concrete mix. water used
for mixing, free of injurious amounts of oil, acid, salt, or alkali. Submit test report showing water complies
with ASTM C1602/C1602M.
