STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

OVERVIEW:
My name is Sai Chandra Surakka and I'm born on 18th April 1996 in the city of
Hyderabad. My father Chandraiah Narayana Surakka who owns a business by the
name Mahalakshmi General Stores and mother Chandrakala Surakka who owns a
business by the name Mahalakshmi Sarees, have inculcated good morals and values in
me while I was a child. I have 3 elder siblings and all of them got married and settled in
Hyderabad. They always encouraged and supported me through all my doings and
endeavors of my life. It is now with their support that I’m going to a country like Australia
for my Master's studies in Project Management.

Academics: (PTE score enclosed)

I’ve taken my studies very seriously as education as it will be the ultimate factor which
will set me apart from the crowd. I've studied my tenth in VDP Rao Memorial high
school, Hyderabad which is affiliated to Board of secondary education, Andhra Pradesh.
I completed my tenth from the same and scored an aggregate of 70.3% in March 2011.
Later, I chose to study my diploma in mechanical engineering at Princeton College of
Engineering and Technology which is affiliated to State Board of Technical Education
and Training. I completed my diploma in April 2014 with an aggregate of 73.36%. Later,
I wanted to continue my education in the same subject for my bachelor's. So I enrolled
myself in Bharat College of Engineering and Technology which is an affiliate of
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. I completed my Bachelor’s in
June 2017 with a percentage of 58.19%. I wrote the Pearson Test of English on July
9th, 2018, as it is accepted as a criterion all over the world for an admission and scored
an overall score of 54 with no band less than 51. I later applied for Central Queensland
University in the last week of July 2018. I received my offer letter on 07 th August 2018.
I’ve submitted my financials on 17th September 2018 and got them approved by 05 th
October 2018. I've also paid the fee on 12 th October 2018.

Work Experience: (Work experience and salary slips attached)

I completed my degree in June 2017 but had to wait to receive my documents and
certificates from the university as there were some internal problems going on inside the
university. As soon as I received my documents in December 2017, I looked for
employment opportunities. As I was eligible for a job in my field of study I chose to work
initially and get practical knowledge of a work setting in general. Hence I choose to
apply to different companies from my field and I got a job in Imaxon Technologies Pvt.
Ltd as a Machine design Analyst. I joined the firm on 8th January 2018. Working here,
my duties and responsibilities were,
 To oversee the development, programming, and testing of the work.
 To ensure that a project is designed to meet user needs.
 To evaluate the mechanical and electromechanical systems.
 To maintain the product and company reputations by complying with the
government regulations.
 To develop the design for mechanical devices and equipment.
 To create the drawings necessary for prototyping and production.

I'm still working here and after working here for a period of time, I felt that I’m ready for a
Master's degree and enhance my knowledge in my field of work. But I wasn't sure which
degree to choose from. I searched for a good master's course and was able to find
many technical ones. As I have experience in the management and administration
department during my job, I wanted to take a degree which will combine both my field of
study and work and this will let me utilize my time efficiently which I spent and make the
best out of myself. I've put down my resignation papers and will be relieved from my job
soon.

Why Master's Degree?

Master’s degree is a comprehensive program which combines the hard and soft skills. It
teaches one to connect the dots and shows the intensity of the problem. It enables
leveraging the technology and provides the insights that will help me to arrive at a
proper decision. This program generates academic energy and passion perfectly and
enhances my engineering knowledge. It offers opportunities for team projects and
diverse backgrounds to make successful. The world faces the challenges of global level
sustenance, health, and environmental protection and there is a need to integrate
technical and business skills to solve them. Skilled engineers who understand the
essential principles of business have a competitive advantage. From the data I have
gathered Project management program meets my career demands and integrate
business, law, engineering, and management. This program is a combination of
engineering and business. It gives the benefits of more influence, bigger job
responsibility, high salary, and smooth career advancement and provides me to have a
well-rounded personality and become a vibrant party of the professional workforce. It
offers a great learning experience, a robust analytical and problem-solving curriculum,
innovation in technology and depth in technical topics. It enables me to develop
practical business skills. The interaction with varied fellow students with different cultural
backgrounds, technical training, and work experience is rich and valuable. For these
reasons, I felt that a master’s degree is very essential to me at this moment.

Why Not India for My Masters?

India is only second to China in terms of international student enrollment in schools
across the globe. This is mainly because of its population of 1.26 billion of which more
than 50%people are below 25. Admissions in India’s top-ranked institutes is highly
competitive given the lakhs of students pass out high school every year and seats
available for admission are quite limited. IIMs (Indian Institute of Management), IITs
(Indian Institute of Technology) are amongst India's dream schools that lakhs of
students contest to get admission. The rat race to secure admission gets much more
intense depending on the level of study and discipline. On top of it, students have to
deal with the stress of acing entrance exams for certain disciplines. High cut-offs cause
even the brightest students to give up on their hope to secure admission in course of
their choice at a college of their preference. as result students with no guaranteed
admission have to think through the option of studying abroad. Eventually, students like
me with a strong academic standing and enough budget choose to further our higher
education abroad at a university of a high repute. Postgraduate admission at a highly
ranked foreign school is perceived to be comparatively easier, and an increasing
number of students like me from India are choosing to take the big leap.

Why Australia?
Australia is an increasingly popular study destination with international students from
across the globe. For many students, Australia may represent a better study destination
than other popular alternatives like the UK and the USA. Apart from being a great place
for a first-rate education, Australia is also a fantastic place to live. It provides a
welcoming and multicultural society with a population that originates from around 200
countries. Australian people have a reputation for being amongst the friendliest in the
world, and the Australian cities are safe and clean, with low crime rates. The lifestyle
and quality of living in Australia are among the best in the world. Several of Australia's
capital cities regularly ranks among the world’s most liveable cities. In 2017, the
Economist Intelligence unit's global liveability survey found that the four Australian cities
ranked in the world’s top ten most liveable cities. Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and
Perth ranked first, fifth, seventh and ninth respectively, a feat not achieved by any other
countries. Australian education programs represent great value for money. Australian
courses are often shorter than alternatives in other countries, particularly in the USA.
Most Australian Master’s degree courses can be completed in two years which is
accepted back in India.

Why Australia over other countries:

While looking at other countries, I came across some good countries like the USA, the
UK, France, Germany, and Australia. I looked into the USA and wanted to study here
initially but while looking at the internal affairs and news, I found out that the country
ranks high in racism and crimes committed towards international students. I had to drop
the plan after knowing about this as I want to go to a country where I can study
peacefully and not get interrupted by any other external factors. Coming to the UK I've
seen that the courses offered are very short usually ranging from 12 months and 16
months. These degrees aren't considered valid back in India and finding jobs based on
these degrees will be hard. Then I looked into France and by studying here, I'll be
expected to study what the teachers are teaching and learn whatever is in my book.
There is no faculty-student interaction and this will make the lectures and learning really
boring. I also looked into Germany and found that the country is lacking basic student
services which Australia provides in everything they implement and introduce. Also, the
country will need me to be fluent in the German language and requires me to write an O
level exam and I frankly don’t have time to learn a language at this point. Then I came
to know about Australia and I liked the course structure the universities follow and the
student service at these universities. The practical learning implemented in the country
will benefit me on a bigger level and let me be successful in my life and career.

Why Central Queensland University Over Other Universities?

While comparing among universities, I came across the universities like Latrobe
University, Central Queensland University, Griffith University, Royal Melbourne Institute
of Technology, Southern Cross University and etc. Among all the universities, Central
Queensland University is a very young university and it strives for excellence. The same
can’t be said about Royal Melbourne University of Technology and LaTrobe University.
They are a bit old and have been long established and don’t make a special effort to
excel. The international student fee is much more reasonable when compared to that of
Griffith University and Royal Melbourne University of Technology. The fee at Griffith
University is around AUD $32,500 and the fee at Royal Melbourne University of
Technology is around AUD $36,480 while the student fee at Central Queensland
University is only AUD $25,872 which is comparatively much lower than the others. The
starting salaries of graduates from Central Queensland University are higher than those
of the graduate salaries of graduates from Southern Cross University. The student
satisfaction rate survey done among the students of Central Queensland University is
higher when compared to the student satisfaction rate among the other universities like
LaTrobe University and Southern Cross University. Hence I choose to study at Central
Queensland University over all other universities present in Australia.

Why Central Queensland University?

Central Queensland University challenges and pushes us to be better and creative in all
our projects and endeavors because of which I'll gain enough confidence to tackle any
problem. It is a very solid and good university. Receiving a degree in Project
Management and I will be employed within 6 months, coming back to India. The degree
will really help push me forward in my career. Many employers will recognize my
degree. The tutors are very good and I will have a quality education. The facilities were
new and updated as well. This university is very helpful. My instructors are very
informative and helpful. I will never have any major problems with Central Queensland
University. Some people do not want to "put in the work" and do what it takes to
graduate. As I’m not looking for a handout, Central Queensland University is just for me.
They are very understanding and will bend over backward to make sure I have what I
need. It's a real college for real serious students like me who need to attain deeper
knowledge in order to get better employment opportunities. I also have to consider that
my future employer heard about my university I’m going to and every big employer
knows about Central Queensland University. The university has excellent programs and
campuses for which it doesn't get the credit it deserves. The graduates from Central
Queensland University have some of the best outcomes which were observed by
Graduate Careers Australia (GCA). Also in terms of student support, employment and
salary outcomes Central Queensland University outperforms other universities
according to Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT). Employers personally
look for Central Queensland University students as they have a sense of dedication and
appreciation and have been the best hires yet. My experience with this university will be
what I make it. As I’m motivated and do well, this will pay off certainly and that is why
I’ve chosen Central Queensland University.

Course details and outcomes:

Project management is designed for those who manage projects and need a more
structured approach. The course embodies critical thinking and reflective practice
throughout the taught modules. The course requires me to complete a total of 12 core
subjects with 4 electives which will have subjects like Project Management Concepts,
Initiating and Planning Projects, Leading Lean Projects, Executing and Closing Projects,
Research in Project Management, Program and Portfolio Management Information
Systems, Commercial Project Negotiation and etc. During the second year of my study,
I’ve decided to follow the Internship stream and complete an Internship in my field of
study. Also among the electives, I would go with the Management group where in I’ll
study Managing Human Resources, Marketing Management and Digital
Communications, Management and Business Context, Effective Business
Communications. I’ll also be given a 10-week internship program which will benefit me
in many ways. I’ll be learning the professional methods in the corporate place where I’ll
be doing it. Completing an internship will let me have many contacts with the
professionals in my same field of work. This will let me network among the individuals
and benefit each other from our expertise. I’ll also learn leadership skills from my
Master’s degree in my field. There is no blueprint for being a successful leader; there
are many leadership styles and philosophies which I’ll learn from the program.
However, there are certain qualities that all exemplary leaders share that enable them to
inspire, motivate, and unify others to achieve a shared vision. These are also some of
the qualities I’ll inculcate from my degree at Central Queensland University. Completing
96 credits in the program will also teach me,
 To provide education in the management of projects
 To continuously improve the competence profile of both delegates and
their organizations
 To support professional career development in the management of
projects
 To raise the profile of Project Management in participating organizations
 To create a group of project management professionals and develop and
sustain communities of learning and practice.

Career prospects:
Completing the course and acquiring an international degree will put me in front of other
applicants for the same job I’m applying. The knowledge and skills I’ll gain from my
degree will let me surpass other similar candidates in the same job level. I’ll learn the
professional etiquette and communication for effective results. I’ll have a broad
perspective on the things and the clients I’ll deal with which is also something I’ll learn in
the degree. I'll come back to India to apply for jobs in companies like TATA group,
Kirloskar, Godrej, Larsen and Toubro, Siemens and etc. I’ll be prepared for all the
procedures and the mindset that goes in there as I would be trained from the best. I'll
apply for the Implementation Engineer or Assistant Project Coordinator or an Assistant
Product Development Engineer and I'll be paid anywhere between 5-6 lakhs initially. I’ll
initially upload my resume on different job portals like Shine.com, Indeed.com,
Naukri.com, Monster.com, Timesjobs.com etc and get selected for an interview
thereafter. After attending interviews, I’m confident that I’ll be shortlisted in every one of
them because of my Australian degree. Completing a total of 3 years will push me to the
role of Project Management Assistant where I’ll draw an annual salary of around 8-10
lakhs. After 5 more years, I’ll be handling the roles and responsibilities of Project Lead
and earn around 11-12 lakhs/annum. This kind of salary range is only possible when I
complete a degree from Australia and if I have an Indian degree, I’ll be paid around 3-4
lakhs and I’ll reach a salary range of around 6-7 lakhs within 8-9 years. The appraisals
are also very less considering that I won’t have enough work related knowledge with an
Indian Degree. Hence, it is more beneficial to me in terms of salary if I come back and
work in India with an Australian Degree.

Coming Back To India;

I would come back to India with a masters degree in my hand and apply for a job in my
field as the jobs are very high paid if proven the capability in the field. There is a high
demand for the people in this field and since I'll have a master’s degree in the field of
management which will make me well versed with the principles involved in the
engineering field on a management level. Depending on my performance I’m positive
that I’ll be sponsored a post-study work VISA which will let me work for 2 years in
Australia. Coming back to India with an Australian degree and appropriate work
experience from the same country will let me place myself in a higher position back in
the job market of India and this is beneficial to me on so many levels in terms of
recognition and pay grade I will get from my future employer. I also have to look after
my parents in their old age as it is my responsibility and duty towards them. Apart from
that, we have 6 crores in assets which need to be looked after when I come back from
Australia. My tuition cost at Central Queensland University is around 30 lakhs for two
years and coming back to India for a job will return my investment on my master’s in no
time. As I’ll be paid a higher remuneration in India with an Australian than in Australia
with an Australian degree or in India with an Indian degree, I can replenish the funds
which are spent for my Master’s education with in no time. For this reason, I would
definitely come back to India after my Master’s degree.

Visa Rules:
I've read the rules and regulations which I need to follow during my stay in Australia. I'm
applying for my visa under subcategory 500 where student visa conditions are as
follows.

 I would have to maintain a minimum of 80% attendance

 I am allowed to work for 40 hours fortnightly on a part-time basis.
 I need to keep my primary education provider informed about any change
in address and contact details within 7 days of the change.
 I have to maintain a valid health insurance under the name of overseas
student health cover (OSHC).
 I can’t shift to another university unless I’ve completed six months with my
primary education provider in the primary program.
 The living expenses for a student in Australia will be around AUD $20,290.

Conclusion:
I'm really grateful for the opportunity I'm given. I promise that I'll uphold the value of this
opportunity and see this towards the end. I want to complete my master’s education
with great interest and special dedication. I’m positive that I’ll complete the course with
flying colors and come back to India to be a high paid employee where I’ll be greatly
valued.

Sai Chandra Surakka.
