Dear Parents and Families,

It is with pleasure that I welcome you and your children to the 2019-2020 school
year in the Sag Harbor Elementary computer lab. It was a busy last two months, as
summer school contributors worked extra hard to make some necessary, but
exciting changes to the technology systems, machinery and computer lab itself.
Whether your child is starting their first year of school, or going into their last, we
have many exciting, challenging and enriching activities awaiting them.

We will be beginning our Internet Safety Unit, which is a vital portion of our
instruction here in the computer lab each year. Students will use a variety of
resources and tools to learn about, and explain why following these important
safety rules are so necessary in our increasingly digital world.

Our goal in the lab is to give children from K – 5 an opportunity to obtain, improve
and enhance their computer skills so they can carry them out easily and proficiently.
I greatly encourage effort, cooperative learning and outside the box thinking in my
classroom. I expect each and every student to come to the computer lab rested,
focused and ready to absorb a variety of current, interesting and important
information that will help them continue to succeed in our frequently changing
technological world. In the five-plus years I’ve been in Sag Harbor, we’ve seen
marked improvements in students overall computer skills, introduced a new
computer programming unit, increased and updated our Internet safety
information, added new resources such as Chromebooks, iPads and Google Apps,
and watched as our high school students dominated national Robotics competitions.
I am truly proud of all we’ve been able to accomplish thus far.
