Title: BRAKE CONTROL: VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM: C0200/31,C0205/32; Right Front Wheel Speed
Sensor Signal Malfunction; 2006 MY LS430 [07/2005 - ]

DTC C0200/31 Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Malfunction

DTC C0205/32 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The speed sensor detects wheel speed and sends the appropriate signals to the ECU. These signals are used to
control the ABS.

The front and rear rotors have 48 serrations respectively.

When the rotors rotate, the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet in the speed sensor produces AC
voltage. Since the frequency of this AC voltage changes in direct proportion to the speed of the rotor, the
frequency is used by the ECU to detect the speed of each wheel.

DTC NO. DTC DETECTION CONDITION TROUBLE AREA

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
When replacing the ABS and traction actuator (Skid control ECU), perform zero point calibration .

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION)

(a) Using the intelligent tester, check for any momentary interruption in the wire harness and connector
corresponding to the DTC .

There are no momentary interruptions.

HINT:
Perform the above inspection before removing the sensor and connector.

NG GO TO STEP 5

OK

2. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (FRONT SPEED SENSOR)

(a) Connect the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the ignition switch ON.

(c) Select the DATA LIST mode on the intelligent tester.

CONDITION NOTE

WHEEL FR Wheel speed sensor (FR) reading / min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Actual wheel
-
SPD max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) speed

WHEEL FL Wheel speed sensor (FL) reading / min.: 0 km/h (0 mph), Actual wheel
-
SPD max.: 326 km/h (202 mph) speed

OK:
There is almost no difference from the displayed speed value.

HINT:
There is tolerance of +-10% in the speedometer indication.

3. INSPECT SPEED SENSOR ROTOR SERRATIONS

BRAKE CONTROL: VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM: C... https://one.tis.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/rm/RM00B0U/xhtml/RM0...

(a) INSPECTION USING OSCILLOSCOPE:

(1) Connect an oscilloscope to terminals 3 (FR+) and 17 (FR-),

and 18 (FL+) and 4 (FL-) of the skid control ECU.

(2) Drive the vehicle at approximately 30 km/h (19 mph), and

check the signal waveform.
OK:
A waveform as shown in a figure should be output.

HINT:
As the vehicle speed (wheel revolution speed) increases, a cycle
of the waveform narrows and the fluctuation in the output
voltage becomes greater.
When noise is identified in the waveform on the oscilloscope,
error signals are generated due to the speed sensor rotor's
scratches, looseness or foreign matter attached to it.

NG GO TO STEP 7

REPLACE ABS AND TRACTION ACTUATOR

OK ASSEMBLY

4. INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR

(a) INSPECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR:

(1) Make sure that there is no looseness at the connectors' locking part.

(2) Disconnect the speed sensor connector.

(3) Measure the resistance of the speed sensor.

Standard resistance:
for LH
for RH
