Q: What types of equations would be used in Fatigue Failure?
Q: Which one is more efficient a four stroke engine or a two stroke? Why?
1. How will you calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient?
It is a purely technical question which is asked to check the educational knowle
dge of the candidate. The heat transfer coefficient, in mechanical engineering,
is used in calculating the heat transfer, typically by convection or phase chang
e between a fluid and a solid:
h = ?Q/(A. ?T. ?t), where
?Q = heat input or heat lost, J
h = heat transfer coefficient, W/(m2K)
A = heat transfer surface area, m2
?T = difference in temperature between the solid surface and surrounding fluid a
rea, K
?t = time period, s
2. What is a seamless pipe?
Seamless pipe also called Cold drawn seamless pipes (CDS pipes) are commonly use
d in machining parts, shafts, bearings, and cylinders. It is a solid carbon stee
l rod which is pushed on to the madrel to form the shape of a tube. It is made f
rom a solid round steel billet which is heated and pushed or pulled over a form un
til the steel is shaped into a hollow tube.
3. What are your skills and qualifications?
Well, I have basic knowledge of computer languages such as C, JAVA, SML and oper
ating systems which include Windows 95, 98/2000, Win XP, and NT. I have proficie
ncy in Microsoft Office, and other software packages like Helix, Proe2001, ANSYS
, and ADAMS. I can easily install windows and some software s.
4. So why do you want to become a mechanical engineer?
The answer to this question will differ from person to person. It is a good oppo
rtunity for you to explain the extensive process of research and education that
you have undertaken. You can say that - I find this career very lucrative. This
profession gives the chance of helping people, being your own boss, and making a
very good living. It is a very prestigious profession and engineers are highly
respected within the community.
Well, these are some of the important questions that are frequently asked in a m
echanical engineering student interview and I am very certain that my article wo
uld surely help you to answer them with great confidence.

Explain the second law of thermodynamics.

The entropy of the universe increases over time and moves towards a maximum valu
e.
How do you measure temperature in a wet bulb thermometer?
Wet bulb temperature is measured in a wet bulb thermometer by covering the bulb
with a wick and wetting it with water. It corresponds to the dew point temperatu
re and relative humidity.
What is bending moment?
When a moment is applied to bend an element, a bending moment exists in the elem
ent
What are the points in the stress strain curve for steel?
Proportional limit, elastic limit or yield point, ultimate stress and stress at
failure.
Define Reynolds number.
Reynolds number is the ratio of inertial force and viscous force. It is a dimens
ionless number. It determines the type of fluid flow.
What is a Newtonian fluid?
A Newtonian fluid possesses a linear stress strain relationship curve and it pas
ses through the origin. The fluid properties of a Newtonian fluid do not change
when any force acts upon it.
How many joules is 1 BTU?
1 BTU is equal to 1055.056 joules.
What is PS?
PS is Pferdestarke, the German unit for Horsepower.
Explain Otto cycle.
Otto cycle can be explained by a pressure volume relationship diagram. It shows
the functioning cycle of a four stroke engine. The cycle starts with an intake s
troke, closing the intake and moving to the compression stroke, starting of comb
ustion, power stroke, heat exchange stroke where heat is rejected and the exhaus
t stroke. It was designed by Nicolas Otto, a German engineer.
Explain the nomenclature of a 6203-ZZ bearing.
6 is the type code, which shows it is a single-row ball bearing, 2 is the series
, means light, 03 is the bore, which is 17 mm and ZZ is the suffix meaning doubl
e shielded bearing.
What is gear ratio?
It is the ratio of the number of revolutions of the pinion gear to one revolutio
n of the idler gear.
What is annealing?
It is a process of heating a material above the re-crystallization temperature a
nd cooling after a specific time interval. This increases the hardness and stren
gth if the material.
Define torque.
Torque is defined as a force applied to an object that results in rotational mot
ion.
What is ductile-brittle transition temperature?
It is the temperature below which the tendency of a material to fracture increas
es rather than forming. Below this temperature the material loses its ductility.
It is also called Nil Ductility Temperature.

he three basic types of air compressors are

Reciprocating,Rotary screw,Rotary centrifugal
These types are further specified by:
1.The number of compression stages
2.Cooling method (air, water, oil)
3.Drive method (motor, engine, steam, other)
4.Lubrication.

what is hardnes & how hardnes can be analysed.

hardness means presence of Calcium and Magnesium carbonates
and bicarbonates, these can be analysed by titration with
EDTA ( Ethylene Diamino tetra acetic acid ) using muroxide
and Eriochrome black-T as indicators
For calcium hardness muroxide is the indicator colour
change is pink to violet ( brinjal flower colour)
For total hardness determination EBT is the indicator
colour cange is pink to blue

Re: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OVALITY & CIRCULARITY?

Answer
# 1 Ovality is one of the error we observe while measuring
circularity of a shaft or bore.In ovality we can measure
diffrence in dimension measured in one palne.think of egg
as an example.
