REFLECTION
PART

A. What is the theme of the film?

Actually the film, Every Child is Special, has three themes because of its
amazing story. The first theme of the movie is for FAMILY. It is for family
because in the movie tells to us how to understand each other especially in our
families. The Awathsi family didn’t know why Ishaan cannot excel in their class.
They didn’t know what the problem of the child is until a teacher came and
explained to them what Ishaan’s problem is. Misunderstanding is one of the
problems why families fight with each other. Let’s us understand and help each
other by communicating with them always. Children of families should be
guided by their parents to avoid misunderstanding.

The second one is DYSLEXIA, because it is the problem of Ishaan in the

first place. It is the reason why Ishaan can’t read and write properly. No matter
how many times his mother taught him to read and write, it doesn’t seem to
help him. But there is a teacher that has a plan to teach Ishaan, it is called
remedial techniques for Dyslexia. My point here is that the Dyslexia is the one
that made Ishaan’s mother and teacher helped him. The Dyslexia is the key so
that Maya and Ram could have a bonding with Ishaan.

The last theme of the film is the title itself, EVERY CHILD IS SPECIAL,
because all of the children in this world are special. They are special because
children make us laugh and make us happy. Without children, maybe every
family feels incomplete because of the lack of happiness inside of them. Maybe
the word “cute” will disappear in the whole world. All of us need children in
our lives because they also teach us a valuable lesson. All of us know that all of
our children are our future. Therefore I include that every child is special
because they are our future and will be our future in many generations. There
is so many things that a children could be special for but the important thing is
we love them every day in our lives. These are the themes for this film.

B. What is the impact of the film to you as a

viewer/person? Are you affected by it?

As a person, the impact of the film is do not compel a

person in doing what you want them to do. You cannot
persuade a person who doesn’t like and/or support your
ambition. It is like your brain, if you cannot do it, you will
not do it; but if you want to do it, you put your focus into
it. That is life and that is why Ishaan became frustrated
trying to be what his father want him to. You cannot push
someone so that your dreams would come true. You need
to let go of what you want to your child and motivate
him/her to be what he/she want to be instead.
Yes, I’m affected. Because there is a time I have been
obliged by my classmate to go to places by myself. I have
been worried because my mother will scold me for not going
home in the right time. But that changed my life, and
because of that experience, I have learned how to go to
places by myself and being independent.

C. What new windows and insights

opened for you after watching it?
Even in little things, you can change
people’s lives. Changing people’s lives is a
bit challenging for all of us. In doing so,
you don’t need to give money or a lot of
efforts to make an impact to that person
you want to help with. You just need to
put your heart into it. Like what Ram
Nikumbh did to teach Ishaan how to write
and read.
D. What particular scene or event in
the film struck you? Why?
The particular scene and event in the film
that struck me is when Ram Nikumbh went to
Ishaan’s family because this is where the
Awasthi’s families understanding to Ishaan’s
condition has been cleared and when Ram
found out that Ishaan is a painter. Ishaan’s
family in this part finally understood why their
son was not exceling in class. The other one
that struck me is when Ram said that Ishaan
lost self-esteem and no longer paints. I did not
cry but in my heart it hurts that your children’s
talent will not be used because a parent forced
a child to follow their own dreams.

What connection to a real life

situation did you see? How could
you relate to it?
The connection is when I had a classmate in Grade 3-6
and he is like Ishaan but doesn’t have dyslexia. He was my
seatmate, he always told his life to me because he doesn’t
have friends. One day, he told me that he was pushed by his
father to study more but he refused because he doesn’t
like to study. When the time comes, I helped him to be more
active in class so that he will have higher grades than me.
Then he did not become an honor but his grades had been
higher than before. I’m thankful that I have done a good
job in helping other people.

This real-life story is like Every Child is Special because

Ishaan has been pushed by his father to excel in class but
here he has a problem called dyslexia. The time came when
someone helped Ishaan to excel in school and bring back
his confidence.
Give 3 indispensable lessons did
you learn from the film.
First, you need to learn how to be intuitive and
aware because maybe that person is being being
trapped inside and that someone needed to help
them get out of it. Second, this is for the teachers,
we can see in the movie that Ram Nikumbh taught
Ishaan and other students these different strategies
and techniques to motivate his students to study
more. Teachers need to have a plan on how to
motivate your students to enjoy learning. The third is
for the parents who are always busy working. They
need to have time with their family and be with their
family. Just saying expressing your care and love for
your children through simple words is enough for
them. Have time with your family so you will not have
any miscommunications.
