impact players for gt football

David Curry finally stepped into the spotlight last sea-

son after missing the previous season with an injury,
starting all thirteen games as a red-shirt junior. Not
content to simply just be another guy in the locker
room, Curry has stepped up — in addition to lead-
ing the team in total tackles, Curry was named as a
captain for Tech’s first game against Clemson. After
Tech’s brutal loss to Citadel, Curry fielded questions
from reporters postgame, maturely handling Tech’s
worst loss in decades. That’s leadership on and off
the field.

Jordan Mason was a revelation last season

when he led Tech RBs in rushing yards and
finished third in touchdowns. This season,
he is filling much of the same role as Tech’s
go-to back and is serving admirably — of
Tech’s seven touchdowns this year, Mason
has more than half of them. Mason’s 5.6
yards per carry, while a step down from
last year’s lofty 6.1 average, ranks No. 47
in the country. Mason represents the
medicine for Tech’s scoring ills.

For a Tech team where big plays have seemed

hard to come by, there has been no great-
er spark than Tobias Oliver. Tech’s
human-swiss army knife has been all
over the field — the QB is second on
the team in passing yards and rushing
yards, all while serving as Tech’s primary
kick-returner. While Tech fans only had a
brief preview of Oliver’s dynamic play last
year, he’s front and center on a Tech offense
where he’s asked to do anything and every-
thing.
