WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO ELECTRIC IRON REPAIR?

Clean an electric iron:

1. Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.

2. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making
sure the debris doesn’t fall into the vents.
3. Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral
deposits.
4. To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar
into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the
iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the
instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.

5. Use a sponge and commercial soleplate cleaner or baking soda and water to
remove dirt buildup on the soleplate. Rinse well with water and dry. Don’t use
harsh abrasives or immerse an electric iron in water.
6. Use very fine steel wool (0000) or an emery cloth to remove scratches and
burns on the soleplate, then clean the soleplate.

Step in repairing an Electric Iron

Step 1 - Identify the Problem

It's important to know what sort of problem exists and what is required to
repair it before starting. Read the manual provided with your iron first to be sure
there is nothing wrong with your settings. Next, check the thermostat and electric
cord if the iron does not heat or heats up exceedingly high when the power is
switched on. If steam is not coming out properly or the water is being spat out when
the iron is on, check the bottom of the iron (sole plate) and holes from where steam
is released for debris or obstructions. Last but not least, check the sole plate surface
if the clothes are clinging to it to see if there is any residue or debris burned onto it.

Step 2 - Take Appropriate Precautions

Switch off or disconnect the iron and leave it to cool off completely. If you start
repairing the iron while it is still plugged to the circuit, you might get an electric
shock.

Step 3 - Check for Continuity or resistance

After distinguishing the trouble

do a continuity using a multi-tester.
The setting of the tester is in ohms
(x10 range). Check the continuity at
the plug before turning the switch
knob. A certain resistance must
register at the scale. The normal
resistance of a heating element is 60
to 80 ohms. If there is no move in the
needle then the unit has a certain
fault.

Step 4 – Dismantle the unit

Unscrew the cover of the unit and check all the connection of the element and
test its continuity.

Step 5 – Replace the faulty component

Replace the suspected

component that is damage with a new
one with the same characteristic.

Step 6 – Re-assembly the units

Finally, screw the cover panel

back into place, and switch the iron back
on to check that it is heating properly.
