EVENT PROPOSAL “STUDY TOUR MARINE SYSTEM
DEPARTMENT (SHIPYARD AND CLASSIFICATION BUREAU IN
BATAM)

1. INTRODUCTION
Marine System is an engineering discipline dealing with the engineering design
process, shipbuilding, maintenance, operation of marine vessels, piping installation and
offshore industry. It is important for the students of Marine System to be involved directly
in that process. The problem of the Marine System students in Hasanuddin University is
that, the students are forced to learn such a complex discipline without even see directly
the field of the discipline which they are learning. The students are tend to be less motivated
with the learning based on theory concept, because they don’t know exactly what and where
that theory will be applied on the field. Ironically, the students of Marine System are
expected to be able to think based on the imagination about the meaning and the purposes
that written in the textbooks. This is a kind of risky situation, because it can make a different
interpretation between the students. That is why this study tour program could bring a
positive impact to the learning process of the students.
Marine System are by necessity creative people. They must have an understanding of
the many facets of ship design and offshore industry and especially important at sea, safety.
They must be team leaders, able to integrate the inputs of many others to achieve a balanced
and coherent whole. Apart from the architectural aspects of ship and offshore buildings,
they must be able to use complex mathematical and physical models to ensure that the
design is satisfactory technically and that it meets the safety rules and standards laid down
by Classification Societies and Government Agencies. Therefore, the student of Marine
System in Hasanuddin University must be involved and see directly to the field itself. It is
a must thing to do in order to compete among other Marine System from around the world
in a Global Scale. One way to achieve this is by visiting a company or ship industry and
offshore industry with a National or International Standard in management and technology
development. Considering the higher level of technology development is in the west part
of Indonesia, based on this reason we intended to do this Study Tour Program in Batam.

The Title of the Event is “STUDY TOUR OF MARINE SYSTEM DEPARTMENT,
FACULTY OF ENGINEERING, HASANUDDIN UNIVERSITY (SHIPYARD AND
CLASSIFICATION BURAEU IN BATAM )

3. EVENT PURPOSES AND BENEFITS

The purposes of the event are :
1. To maintain the good relationship with the company which will be visited
2. To increase the knowledge of the student regarding to naval discipline and jobs in
marine field.
3. To acknowledge the job prospect in the company which will be visited
4. To reference to do task Ship Design, offshore building, Piping Installation and
Safety Maritime in the company which will be visited
5. To acknowledge about renewable technology in naval and maritime sector
6. To maintain the strong bond between the student and the alumni of ISP Hasanuddin
University

The Event will be held from July 7rd until July 30th 2019

6. EVENT PARTICIPANTS
This event will be participated with a total of 20 students of Marine System Department,
Class of 2017rd also from Marine System Department. The detail of the participants is
shown on the Appendix I.

7. EVENT SCHEDULE
Sequence and complete schedule is still tentative, shown on the Appendix II.

8. ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
The Organizing Committee of the event is shown on the Appendix III.

9. CLOSURE
We hope as the executor of the activities as well as participants so that all parties can
work together in the success of this study tour. May this event could give a long term benefit
for the student and can strengthen the bond between the student, the alumni and the
companys.
For the cooperation of all parties, who helped the implementation and success of this
activity we thank.
