Getting Started
Introduction
HomeCost Estimator is an MS Excel based, easy-to-use tool for estimating construction
costs for new residential buildings. It has built-in data such as construction cost factors,
city cost indexes, class and type factors, finish and upgrade costs.
HomeCost Estimator is distributed in two editions.
Trial edition is licensed for and functional for a maximum period of 7 days, beyond which
a user has to obtain an Authorization Code upon payment of $45.00 registration fee. The
trial edition may be distributed free.
Registered edition does not need an Authorization Code to run in full functional mode.
Since it is licensed for one user, it is illegal to make and distribute copies of the registered
edition.

HomeCost Estimator 7-day trial edition is distributed free. Single-user registration for the
full feature version is $45.00. We update and improve HomeCost Estimator frequently.
With registration, we provide several benefits including free lifetime program and data

registered product. Since this edition is licensed for one user, it is illegal to make and

Who Can Benefit

HomeCost Estimator is designed for individuals planning to build a home as well as
construction professionals creating conceptual or budget estimates for residential building
projects. Insurance professionals can also use HomeCost Estimator for generating
replacement cost estimates.

Excel Version Compatibility

HomeCost Estimator is designed for use with Excel 97-2000 and above. It works with
Windows 95/98/Me/2000/NT/XP.

Excel's Built-in Macro Protection

Excel's "High" level macro security will not allow Excel macros to run on the computer.
The standard setting is "Medium". If your setting is at "High", you should switch to
"Medium" security in order to run HomeCost Estimator.
Excel's "Medium" level macro security warns users when files with macros are opened. At
this point, click on "Enable Macros" button.
To change level of security:
 In the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security.
 Click the Security Level tab, and then click the option you prefer.

Program Features
General
Construction costs change with geographical location, class of construction, type, style
and several other factors. Additional features added to the design of home and upgrades
also affect the construction costs. HomeCost Estimator analyzes construction projects
based on several input criteria and applies appropriate modification factors. The wizard-
like user input screens guide the user to identify such factors that affect overall
construction costs.

Class of Construction
HomeCOST Estimator consider 4 classes of construction. These are, Economy,
Standard, Custom and Luxury. Brief specifications are as follows:

Printing the Estimate

When the cost estimate is complete, HomeCost Estimator will display it in a new Excel
workbook (Excel file). Use Excel’s printing functions to print the report.

Saving the Estimate

When the cost estimate is complete, HomeCost Estimator will display it in a new Excel
workbook (Excel file). Save the new file using Excel’s File > Save As function.
HomeCost Estimator Data Sheets
With the registered edition of HomeCost Estimator, you can make data modifications in
the data sheets in terms of editing descriptions and cost data. The trial edition of
HomeCost Estimator will allow you to view but not to modify cost data in the data sheets.
