Learning Activities or Instructional Strategies
Students will log onto ActivelyLearn and complete the assigned text, "The witch: The facts behind the folktales," to identify and record how the idea of witches was initiated
amongst human beings. Students will continue reading Arthur Miller's, "The Crucible" in class. Students will place their desks in a large circle and assign roles to themselves to
read the characters' dialogue throughout the play. Students will read text aloud and add to their guided notes for Act I while reading. Discussion points will be made throughout the
reading to ensure reading comprehension, identification of characterization traits, plot development, and connections to Puritanism, the Salem Witch Hunts, and McCarthyism. As
students finish reading Act I, they will start to compare and contrast the CommonLit articles they read and completed last week, "Puritan Law and Character," "The Salem (And
Other) Witch Hunts," and "McCarthyism," to "The Crucible." Direct quotations must be made on a separate Google Docs for students to use as a helpful tool when completing their
essay.
