Covered Material Storage

PURPOSE
To minimize hazards and associated risks while carrying out Storage of
Material in covered shed at site.

SCOPE
Applicable to Storage of Material carried out in covered shed any where
under execution function.

RESPONSIBILTY:
Site in-charge / Site engineer / Store keeper

PROCEDURE:

1. Combustible material should not be used for construction of store.


2. Leaf, bamboo are more fire prone and must be avoided for
construction.
3. Inflammable materials like petrol, diesel and paint shall be kept
separately
4. Smoking, Fire, heaters are not allowed in the storage room
5. Materials needs to be stacked and placed properly
6. Proper access needs to be provided for easy access and for stacking &
removal of material
7. Poorly stacked materials are dangerous to anyone around
8. Keep aisles and passageways clear
9. Never store materials within six (6) feet of a hoist way entrance, floor
opening.
10. Don’t stack flammables together
11. Remove all nails from lumber stacks
12. Barricade cylinder storage areas
13. Ensure cross ventilation in the covered storage area wherever
practicable.
14. Display signage for material handling in the storage and handling
area
15. Caution boards for inflammable items shall be displayed within and
around the covered storage area
16. Fire extinguishers as required shall be available in the designated
and easily approachable location with a sign board
17. Switched-off the storage electrical supply in non-working hours and
all electrical equipments shall electrically safe guarded
