    Comparison between students today and before.

    Good afternoon class. I have given myself a challenge to accomplish for every English tuition class that I will
    be conducting start from today. I am going to share with all of you a topic which is relating to our daily life in
    every tuition class. Mainly evolving around the issues or things that happen in our life. As you know, I am
    young. I can be considered as a new teacher. Just like what I have said earlier, each and everyone of us
    should declare ourselves as a learner. Although I am a teacher, but it doesn’t mean that I know everything in
    this world. Back to the basics, I have no different from each and everyone of you here. We are humans.
    Sometime, I am making mistakes as well. But one thing for sure is that I know more than you do. That is why
    I am your teacher.

    Today, I am going to share with all of you regarding the differences between the students nowadays and the
    students. Undeniably, students nowadays is less respectful to their teacher if compared to the past. During
    my time, we deem that our teachers know everything and we are totally accepting any knowledge that was
    taught by our teacher. If our teacher say the answer for question 1 is B then the answer is definitely B. But
    today, students are prone to argue with teacher when their answer is different from their teacher even though
    they are wrong.

    Besides, students today is harder to handle if compared to the past. Today, even a student is not doing his
    or her homework, we can’t punish him. If not, his parents will come all the way from Johor Bahru to Pontian
    just to ask you to give a reason on why you are punishing their children. Even though they are playing, teasing
    other pupils, scolding their teacher, we can’t simply touch them. Or else, we will be the one who suffers. This
    is completely different from before. During my time, if we are being punished by our teacher, we don’t dare
    to report the incident to our parents. Because if we do it, we will be punished again by our parents, sometimes
    even in a more brutal way. Can you imagine we do all the preparation at home, devising classroom activities,
    teach with all our might, we do all these things just wanted to make all of you to into a better person. But
    many of you here not giving your cooperation.

    Today, the role of a teacher is no longer the gatekeeper of all knowledge. The role of a teacher has
    switched to guide, to assist the student whenever they need help. But as a student, are you ready to help
    yourself?5 The responsibility for learning and succeeding is in your hand. I’m always here to help you, but
    you have got to take the lead.
