Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 9

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. compare the different models of the atom and identify the improvement each one
has.
b. construct a Venn diagram of the similarities and differences of the atomic models
proposed by Rutherford and Bohr.
c. appreciates the importance of studying the atom and the development of the
atomic models.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a) Topic: Bohr and Rutherford Models of an atom

 Multimedia Game (PowerPoint)
 PowerPoint Presentation
 Television
 Laptop
d) Teaching Strategies
 Puzzle completion “You Complete Me” and “Pass the ball”
 Game Based Motivation “Wheel of Winning”
 Inquiry-based instruction in the lesson proper
 Brainstorming

III. PROCEDURE
a) Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom Management

1
4. Checking of attendance
b) Review “You Complete Me”
The class will be divided into two groups. Each group will complete a
puzzle about photosynthesis and cellular respiration respectively. The puzzle has
questions about photosynthesis and cellular respiration and the students will
choose the best puzzle piece to answer each question. After completing the
puzzles, each group will have one representative to share about the puzzle.

c) Motivation “Wheel of Winning”

The class will again be divided into two groups. They will be introduced
to names and terminologies related to the new lesson with the aid of a multimedia
game called “Wheel of Winning.”

d) Lesson Proper
A picture of the timeline of the development of the atomic model will be
shown in front of the class. The students will be asked of their perception of the
differences of the different models. After hearing the students’ inputs, the teacher
will introduce the main focus of the lesson, the atomic models of Ernest
Rutherford and Niels Bohr, respectively.

A PowerPoint presentation of the two models mentioned above will be

presented to the class. Pictures of the two models will be compared by the

2
students. The students will also be asked of their idea of the difference of the two
models.
e) Generalization “Pass the Ball”
Music will be played and a ball will be passed around. When the music
stops, whoever has the ball will say something about the keywords about the
lesson flashed on the screen.
With this, the students will be able to do a recap of the day’s lesson.
f) Application
The students will pair up and create a Venn diagram of the differences and
similarities between the atomic model of Rutherford and Bohr. They will discuss
their work with their partner.
g) Valuing “I Believe..”
A thought-provoking question will be flashed on the screen. The students
will share their thoughts about the matter:
Atoms and subatomic particles are not visible to the human eye and even
under the microscope. What do you think is the importance of studying these and
the atomic models?
