Save water save life

A Complete Solution to All Kinds of Waste

Water is life

Scarcity of potable water, which is called elixir of life, is a global concern. Considerably large
portion of this elixir is utilized in various industrial and construction activities. More
troublesome is the fact that most of it is contaminated during its processing when
discharged. It becomes mandatory to reduce, reuse and recycle this waste water to meet
the requirements of common people. Though ethical issues are raised till date regarding
potability of this treated water, such water is deemed fit for other day-to-day uses.

The concept of ZLD has evolved as a measure to curb the rising ethical dilemma of whether
or not to use recycled water, by converting the recycled water into steam via highly
specialized processes. The steam thus generated could be used as boiler feed, or
alternatively could be condensed to water of nearly 99% purity. An advantage of ZLD is
generation of compacted sludge which is also suitable for landfill disposal under Hazardous
Waste Management & Handling Rules, 2008.

Though the concept of ZLD suffers certain disadvantages like high energy input and higher
cost, high carbon footprint, need of specialized instruments, etc. it appears to be "end-of-
the-pipe" solution to deal with the impact of wastewater pollution on our environment as
well as health.

Salient Techniques We Employ

Waste treatment has a long history with always evolving development of sustainable
techniques. Some of the latest techniques which offer various advantages in terms of cost
and efficiency and are adopted by us are:

E.A. (Extended Aeration)

This methodology is well-suited for treatment of domestic and residential origin and does
not require primary settlement tank. The sewage is aerated for a minimum of 24 hr
(extended time period) in an aerobic digestion chamber where almost complete digestion of
total solids (TS) takes place.

SAFF (Submerged Aeration Fixed Film)

The SAFF process utilizes randomly packed plastic media with high number of voids
arranged in a manner to replicate a plug flow arrangement. Air is introduced
continuously from bottom with the help of air diffusers providing necessary aeration
for both process and oxidation of the influent settle liquor.

It is one of the simplest and cost effective method for both industrial and domestic
effluent, especially in small and medium scale treatment plants. The advantages of
SAFF include no use of movable parts within its main process zones, lower O & M
costs, longer shelf life of the plant, predictable performance and easy installation.

SBR (Sequential Batch Reactor)

SBR is essentially an activated sludge process and as the name suggests, is designed
for operation in a sequence i.e. Anoxic or oxic fill, React, Settle, Decant and
Idle/Waste sludge. In SBR system aeration and sludge settlement both occur in same
tank imparting good settling properties to the sludge. Aeration is generally provided
through fine bubble air diffusers where compressed air is sheared into small bubbles
resulting in large specific surface area for higher mass transfer efficiency between air
and waste water. A carefully designed SBR process is capable of providing highest
level of effluent quality of all parameters, particularly BOD and Nutrient removal.

MBBR (Moving Bed Bio Reactor)

MBBR technology employs biofilm carriers (known as bio media) operating in mixed
motion within an aerated wastewater treatment basin providing a combination of
attached and suspended growth technologies. Each bio media (generally made up of
polyethylene) provides protected surface area to support the growth of
heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria within its cells as well as increased contact
between cells and waste water components.

This technology provides cost-effective treatment with minimal maintenance since

the biofilm attached to the mobile bio media within the system automatically
responds to load fluctuations. The most noticeable advantage of MBBR technique is
easy upgradation of existing plants for increased BOD as well as nutrient (nitrogen
and phosphorus) removal capacity.

MBR (Membrane Bio Reactor)

The MBR Technology is considered to be the most advanced development in the field of
biological treatment of waste water given the controls such as recycling in smaller footprint
and under stringent discharge norms. It is an integration of membrane processes such as
micro- or ultra-filtration in a suspended growth bioreactor to yield desirable specifications of
treated effluent in terms of BOD, TSS and biological nutrients. Membrane, in this process,
acts as absolute physical barriers and ensures complete removal of suspended impurities.
MBR units are equipped with MOS Mixed Liquor Distribution and recirculation jets to for
even distribution of the air scour and mixed liquor flow across the membrane sub-modules
thus eliminating potential polarization (concentration) of suspended solids around the
membrane fibres which could be the main cause for the failure and damage of the sub-
modules.

ACF (Activated Carbon Filter)
ACF is used to adsorb chlorine, organics, tri-halo methane (THM) as well as odour, taste
and color from water and wastewater. ACF Unit is a FRP/MSRL vertical pressure vessel
fitted with strainer on bottom collecting system. The unit is fitted with SS frontal pipe
work & MPV externally. Granular activated carbon, with large surface area, is charged on
the supporting media of Coarse & Fine Salix. These rugged, pre-engineered, pre-
assembled units minimize installation and start-up costs.

MGF (Multi Grade Filter)
MGF consists of vertical or horizontal pressure sand filters that contain multiple
layers of coarse and fine sand (pebbles and gravels) in a fixed ratio. As compared to
conventional sand water filter they are capable of operating on higher specific flow
rates. It is also a low cost pre-treatment alternative for ion exchangers (deionizer
and softener) and membrane systems. As the waste water is passed through multi
layers of filter media the contaminants are captured in the media bed and filtered
water passes into the discharge tubes at the bottom of the tanks. The bed could be
easily recovered through backwashing increasing the utility life of the filter making
the process highly cost effective.

ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge)
ZLD is an advanced waste water treatment process in which all wastewater is
purified and recycled; therefore, resulting in zero discharge at the end of the
treatment cycle. ZLD includes as series of steps such as ultra-filtration, reverse
osmosis, evaporation/crystallization, and fractional electro-deionization. The
resulting sludge is suitable for landfill disposal. Though ZLD is quite beneficial
technique it offers certain disadvantages like high initial set-up and operating cost.
However, continuous improvements are underway to ensure better cost economics
using ZLD technique.

Other than comprehensive waste water solution we also provide services in following
disciplines:
 
 Air Pollution Control Devices

Air pollutants mainly occur as a result of man-made activities such as gaseous discharge
from industries and emission from motor vehicles as well as from natural sources such
as wind blow dust and smoke from fires. Some forms of air pollution are more

 detrimental in creating global problems, such as ozone depletion and global warming.
The most frequently used equipments for controlling air pollution emissions are Fabric
filters (or bag houses), Cyclones (or Multi cyclones), Wet scrubbers, Electrostatic
Precipitator etc. At the 3R Technologies we provide a wide range of specifications for all

 solutions related to air pollution monitoring and control.
 
 Biogas plants: Waste to energy approach

Anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste and/or industrial
waste water (especially food and beverage manufacturing units, agro-industries and
slaughter houses) provides an engineered and highly controlled process of capturing
methane, a highly combustible gas for various uses. The breakdown of organic fraction
into methane and carbon dioxide takes place in anaerobic digesters by the action of
anaerobic bacteria in the absence of any oxygen. This results in considerable decrease in
BOD and COD values along with generation of stable sludge which is then suitable for
land spreading as well as farming. The process can take 12-50 days depending upon the
operation temperature. We are a leading provider of anaerobic digesters of various sizes

and specifications to suit your energy needs.
 
 Reverse Osmosis Plants

Due to increasing environmental pollution, our ground water resources have become
highly contaminated. The most common issues are brackish or saline water. An
economical way to obtain pure water from such contaminated water for both drinking
and industrial use is Reverse Osmosis. RO membrane technology produces water with
very low total dissolved solids (~5%), which is also free from particulate, colloidal and
organic matter. Our RO system are fully assembled and tested before dispatch. On-line
device to monitor treated water quality are part of the assembly. The system are
compact and fabricated of robust mild steel powder coated frame with capacities

ranging from 200 LPH to 1000 LPH while models upto 20,000 LPH are also available. Built
in safety features are also provided to protect high pressure pump & membranes from
any damage.
 
Ultra-filtration Units

Ultra filtration (UF) is a pressure-driven barrier to suspended solids, bacteria, viruses,
endotoxins and other pathogens to produce highly pure water along with low silt density.
UF is a tested and proven procedure for removal of high molecular-weight substances,
colloidal materials, silt (SDI), and organic and inorganic polymeric molecules. Effectively it
serves as a pre-treatment step for surface water, seawater, and biologically treated

municipal effluent before feeding to reverse osmosis and other membrane systems.
