Traffic solution?
Many in this area who use the A51 to travel to
work in Chester and beyond will know that it’s a
proper bottleneck at peak times. The source of p10 p18
many of the problems is the roundabout over the
A55 / M53 which gets snarled up. So the council is
spending over £7million on improvements aimed
at speeding up the traffic with the plans on view
last month.

Alzheimer’s Society’s open letter, signed by more than 100,000 people calling on the Prime Minister to sort out
the devastating state of dementia care with immediate investment in an ‘NHS Dementia Fund’ and to prioritise
the long term reform of the social care system.

challenge facing us today, yet the care system is broken, completely ill-equipped to support the hundreds of
thousands of people who need it.

Dog Poo is still a problem
Dog fouling continues to be an issue for the residents of Tarporley. The
Council have received several complaints regarding the amount of dog
poo on the pavements which affects the whole community, particularly
the elderly residents who have walking aids. Please can you make
sure that you pick up the mess, bag it and put it in the dog or litter bins
provided at various locations in and around the village.

Walk and Ride Festival -
5th-13th October
The Sandstone Ridge Trust, the vision
of which is to ‘Conserve, Connect and
Inspire’, is delighted to announce its first ‘Walk and Ride Festival’.
To be held between 5-13 October, our Festival events will be spread right across the Sandstone Ridge,
from the ‘Gateways’ to the Ridge in the north and in the south, to Tarporley, located right at the ‘Heart of
the Ridge’.
Over 20 events (all of which are completely free) will take place throughout this 9-day Festival and which
will include a multiplicity of walks of all levels, cycle rides and a horse-riding event too.
We want you to engage with and appreciate our stunning and diverse landscape, rich in heritage,
archaeology, wildlife and culture, and all of which is within your reach.
Our ‘Walk and Ride Festival’ provides the perfect opportunity to fully explore the Sandstone Ridge, a truly
‘magical place’.

Former Councillor Timothy Hill

The Parish Council has learned of the sad news about ex Councillor Timothy Hill, who died recently after
a period of debilitating illness. Tim Hill was a long-time member of Tarporley Parish Council and was
Chairman of the Council at various times as well as a Borough Councillor (former Vale Royal Borough
Council). There will be a memorial service at St Helen’s on Monday 7th October at 2pm.
Christmas Festival – Saturday 30th November

November between 4pm and 8pm. This is a great event for the whole

Parish Council Meetings

Parish Council meetings. Second Monday of the month (except August) in either the Committee
Room or the Craven Room (the downstairs room accessed from the rear car park) of the Community
Centre. Each meeting starts at 7pm with an Open Forum, during which members of the public can
address the whole Council on matters of concern to them. At 6.30pm, prior to this meeting, the
Parish Council holds a surgery where members of the public can talk one to one with individual
councillors on an informal basis.

The Parish Council still has a vacancy and we are looking for an interested volunteer to stand as a
councillor. You do not require any specific qualifications to become a councillor, just enthusiasm and a
willingness to devote some of your spare time to work on behalf of the residents of Tarporley. It is an
important and worthwhile position and you will be contributing to the success and development of the

Best Kept Village Award Ceremony

It has been a busy few months for the volunteers of the Best Kept
Village working group and I am sure you will agree, Tarporley Village
is looking fantastic due to the hard work of everyone involved.
Judges have returned to Tarporley in recent weeks which may
suggest that Tarporley has made it through to the final round. The
big announcement will be made on 4th November at Ellesmere Port
Civic Centre and members of the team will be attending.

Preparing for a skin peel

Q. How do I prepare my skin for a Dermalogica peel?
A. Preparing the skin for a peel means that you will get the most benefit from your treatment. This treatment is
classed as a ‘superficial peel’, which means it is ‘progressive’ rather than ‘aggressive’ - who wants to shed like a
snake?! A series of superficial peels gives fabulous results without the downtime. It is generally beneficial to ‘prime’
your skin using hydrating products and exfoliators in the build up to your treatment, discontinuing exfoliators and

Q. What should I look for when choosing a skin needling treatment?

A. Look for the combination of an experienced practitioner using a high quality device. After many years of skin
needling at Sensoria we researched the new devices on the market and intro-duced Rejuvapen. We chose this
because it has the most powerful motor giving less needle drag which makes for a more comfortable treatment.
Even more importantly we chose it for the ‘hepa filter’ in its cartridges. Every device has disposable cartridges
(which, by the way should be inserted and thrown away in front of you at your appointment) but Rejuvapen
cartridges have ‘hepa filters’ in them to prevent tissue fluid and blood from entering the device and being
transferred to the next client. Safety is of the utmost importance in this treatment.

Catherine and Peter march on
Tarvin Tennis Club’s finals day saw Catherine Mason retaining her
singles title after a very long and hard-fought three sets of tennis,
despite spirited resistance from opponent Karen Elliott.
Both players had a strong first serve but Catherine eventually
triumphed with a succession of winning drives down either wings.
Meanwhile Peter Nosworthy continued his amazing run of singles
titles by defeating Graham Bunting in straight sets. This was
Peter’s 19th singles win to go with 10 doubles titles in the last 20
years. Despite Graham’s speed about court and ability to chase
down almost anything, Peter’s greater steadiness and ability to
vary his game and turn up the pressure when needed won the
day.
In the ladies’ doubles, fortunes swung first one way then the other
over three close sets of sometimes nervous tennis before Julia
Burgess and Karen Elliott ran out winners, whilst in the mixed
doubles there was still more excitement featuring much hard
hitting, long rallies, repeated deuces and a long tie-break before
Graham Freeman and Julie Hassall came from behind in the 3rd
set to disappoint Daniel Sherwin and Rhian Perry.
The men’s doubles could not be played but the many spectators
still enjoyed four hours of tennis, sustained by the delicious
refreshments provided by the committee and players.

chocolate and sometimes toasted marshmallows as part of the experience!

Rainforest Dave inspires the
children at Huxley Primary
Rainforest Dave has brought the tropical rainforest to life at Huxley CE Primary, engaging and inspiring
the children with information about how truly fascinating our rainforests are. As well as handling giant
stick insects, tarantulas, millipedes and giant snails, the children learnt all about the way of life of the
indigenous people and the remarkable diverse wildlife that thrives in the forests.
It was a fun fact-filled day which had the children enthralled - did you know that a sloth goes to the
toilet once every 8 days and it is such an effort as it has to slowly climb down the tree to go, then back
up again afterwards. Also you can use a piranha jaw to have a shave and scorpions can give birth to 40
live young!
The children also smelled a durian fruit - the smelliest fruit in the world! It was disgusting! It is even
banned in some countries. Learning about how the very expensive Kopi Luwac coffee is made - by
collecting the beans from faeces - was also remarkable.
As they painted their faces and arms and made jewellery and tried on tribal decorations, the children
learnt about the uniqueness of different tribes.
However, the most exciting part of the day was when Rainforest Dave showed us how to make a dart
using kapok as a flight and sharpening the end with a piranha tooth before firing the dart from a 2m
blowpipe across the room to pop a balloon!

themed evening! Christine Stockton will share the Story of Flamenco, and also demonstrate some of

Tiverton District Garden Club

Tuesday 1st October at 7.30pm. Tiverton Village Hall, Huxley Lane, just off A49. Park in laybys. We
all try to encourage wildlife in our gardens, so Nick Rowles from the Cheshire Wildlife Trust will be
coming to give us a talk – from past experience it will be both informative and entertaining. Entry £2

In September Win Bond told us how she started fundraising almost by accident when she learnt to
line dance, and amongst other things has since done a Midnight Walk; a Driving Challenge; walked
on coals; descended a zip wire; done multiple ‘bucket’ collections, and to top it all has done two sky
dives and a wing walk. In addition, in 2013 she trained as a phlebotomist so she could carry out PSA
tests (to detect prostate cancer) in local halls. Win has raised over £80,000 since she first started
fundraising. What a woman! Our talk in October will be ‘The Reluctant Shepherdess’ (Rosie Lea) and

Sport & Recreation Update
Following completion of the 30 day trapping period,
to ensure that the site was clear of Great Crested
Newts, and discharge of pre-commencement
Planning Conditions, phase 1 construction work
commenced on site at Brook Road on Monday 2nd
September.
The first activity was to form a new entrance road
off Farmers Lane, which will be used for construction
access during the works. During the construction
works this road will have a temporary surface, but this
will be brought up to full highways standard at the
end of the project.
Work is now underway on the preparation of the main
playing pitch to a design which has been approved by
Sport England and the Football Foundation as part of
the planning process. Phase 1 works include a full-
sized FA standard football pitch, a smaller junior pitch,
footpaths and trim trail, car park, picnic area with park
furniture, planting, enabling works for future phases,
and the creation of a pond and wildlife areas without
which it would not have been possible to develop the
site, due to the presence of the newts.
During the works temporary perimeter fencing and
gates will secure the site. These have been installed
for safety and security as there will be some heavy
machinery on site and open excavations, which
present a danger. It is very important that nobody tries to gain access to the site during construction
period, even when work is not on going. Please warn children of the dangers of playing on building
sites.
Cheshire West and Chester Council are carrying out the administration of the works on behalf of the
Parish Council.
