In almost five months of staying in the company FINMAT International Resources, Inc., I have been
part of a team who worked on a website for the company which has the information and pictures of the
projects that they have been created; we did this website by coding it in Notepad++, with the use
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also trained ourselves in creating a system for the Daily Time
Record which we created by using VB.NET and SQL server. And I also experienced fixing and testing
hardware problems in the company.

D. Reference Materials

In doing the task that was given to us, the most commonly used material and reference is the internet
by searching about tutorials in Google and in Youtube in creating the website and the system, and in
reassembling the system units that we have tested; and solutions on errors that we have encountered
in creating the system.

IV. PERSONAL EVALUATION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM
Reaction paper by the trainee to include comments on the following areas:
1. Professional learning and development achieved
Being an intern, I have learned and improved my knowledge about how to develop a
website using HTML, CSS and Java Script; and I also improved my knowledge
about creating a system by using VB.NET and SQL Server.

2. Modern computing techniques, skills and tools used/learned

I learned the techniques on how to use different kind of coding in creating a website
and I also learned how to create and form codes on a system using vb.net. And I
learned the techniques of how to de-assemble a system unit which is not that
familiar to me before.

3. Equipment, machinery, testing apparatus, etc., handled

This company uses personal computers and some of them has their own laptop that
they are using. Most of the computers are connected to a network so that they can
transfer their files from one computer to another and to be able to print their files.
While the equipment that we had used in creating a website and a system is our own
laptops.

4. Experiences with the company personnel involved in the training

Since we are just trainees in the company, there are parts of the company and there
are equipment that we need to use, and with the help of the personnel in the
company including the HR head, we are able to improve our skills.

5. Best IT practices used/applied

There are different task which are given to us which I can consider as best IT
practice for us. First, is when we are asked to de-assemble the system unit and be
able to check it, and this practice is not that familiar to me. Next is when we are
asked to do a website for them, wherein I have practice my skills about web
programming. And lastly, the task wherein we are asked to do a system for them,
which I find really hard because I am not familiar in coding in Vb.net, but then, I have
practice it.

6. IT-based solutions integrated into the company

I think the IT-based solution that they have in there company is they transferring files
by means of the connection that they have in each computer. Just like what we are
using in school by means of FTP. They also have connections for the printer when
they need to print a file.

7. Strong points
The strong points of this company that I noticed is that, they are all working so hard.
They are also willing to help us when we needed them and guide us in ding our task
for their company.
8. Weak points and suggested solutions
The weak points of the company is that some of the computers and printers have
problems; for example, a computer cannot connect to the printer and sometimes, the
printer is not working. I think, the best solution for it is to let the printers check by a
professional.

V. RECOMMENDATIONS
A. Potential of the company as a training ground
When it comes of being a potential training ground, the personnel of the company were
the ones who gave us the chance to improve and enhance our programming skills in
creating a website and a system, by giving us task where we can practice our
knowledge and skills.

B. Duration of training (too long or too short)

We are required to finish 500 hours for our OJT, and as estimated, it can be finish for
almost 4 months if an intern does not take overtime, but if an intern have an overtime,
then maybe it can be finish for three months. The number of hours that we need to finish
is long, since 500 is not a small amount of time, but maybe, it is too long for me because,
I still need to go to school for my other subject, which is also important.

C. Suggestions for the improvement of the training program

As what I have noticed and experienced, it is hard for a student if they have other
subjects while having their OJT. That’s why I think that it would be better if the students
will take their OJT without any other subjects.

D. Advise to future On-the-Job Trainees

The advice that I can give to the future OJT trainees is that, always make sure that they
will do everything for any task given, hard work is very important. Always listen to every
instructions given and apply what you have learned in school and make it improve. And
lastly, in everything that you do, make sure that you love and enjoy what you are doing.

My OJT Hunting Experience

As far as I know, there are many job that can be offered to an Information Technology Student/Graduate,
so, I thought that I can have an OJT, not that easy but I thought of having it for only one week of haunting.
But then, it is the exact opposite of what I have experience. From the very beginning of the haunt, it is
very hard to look for a company that is accepting OJT. First I tried looking for a company that accept
OJT in Ortigas with a friend, we have visited three company and of it told us that they will going to email
us for the exam; but then, they didn’t send any exam. But I didn’t just wait for that company, I tried
searching for different company who accept OJT, most of it are in Makati and Ortigas. I go back to
Ortigas and visited other companies with a friend, and we also go back to the company who said that
we are going to have our exam on our email, that is when we found out that they change their rules,
instead of having it as an email, we need to take the exam on the company.

I also went to Quezon Avenue with them wherein there is a company that accept OJT students. But
before going to that company, there is a guy who talked to us and asked us if we are looking for a job,
but we said that we are looking for an OJT so, he said that we try applying to their company. So, the
seven of us went to their office, and while they are discussing, one of my friends said that we should
not accept the OJT that they were offering. After that, we immediately go to the company that we are
really looking for. We had an interview there but I didn’t get any text from them. Another experience is
when one of us has a friend who offers an OJT but then, only three of us can be accommodated first, I
become happy because I thought that it was the one that we are looking for, but then the company that
was offered wants that the OJT doesn’t have any subject in school.

Being able to go to different places, we go back to Ortigas again and two of us was accepted because
only two OJT’s are needed to that company. So the rest of us decided to send resume by email to
different companies. I also asked my uncle if he has a friend who can help me. Then, there is a company
that my uncle’s friend has, and again, I thought that it is the company for me; but then, the company
doesn’t have any vacant for the IT department, and they can only offer clerical work on HR department,
and we cannot accept. Again, we email our resume to different company, and after several emails one
company called and texted me that they were accepting OJT to their company, this time, we really had
an OJT.
I. Reflective Journal: “My experience in OJT”
MY EXPERIENCE IN OJT

After all the hard times that we had in looking for a company, I and three of my friends finally got a
company that is located in Pasig. This company is a company for Engineers and Architects but then,
they still accept IT students for OJT. At first, I got really nervous of what will be my performance in the
company, but then, I tell myself that I can do it, that I just need to believe in my skills. So, as the first
task, they ask us if we can checked some of the system unit, keyboards, monitors and mouse that they
wasn’t able to use for a long time. That is when I get familiarized on how to de-assemble a system unit,
which I haven’t experience before. We are able to do it by the help of tutorials in Youtube which has the
step by step way of de-assembling a system unit.

We asked if we can do other task that is also related to our course, then they asked us if we can do a
website for them. The HR head said that they want to change the content of their website because they
want to add new information and new pictures on their website. First they give us a portfolio of the
information and the pictures of the company. We uses notepad++ for doing it and we used HTML, CSS
and Javscript on it, we also make slideshows for it. Another IT related task that was given to us is to do
a system for their daily time record or attendance of the employees of the company. We used Vb.net
and SQL server in creating the system. Since we are not really familiar in making a system using Vb.net
and SQL Server as a Database, we need to research tutorials and videos about using it. I have
encountered errors in making the system most especially when I need to use the SQL server. I had the
same problem when I used it with one of our subjects, we need to install Vb.net and SQL server; and
again, for the second time, I have encountered the same thing, the struggle of fixing my SQL server. I
searched solutions for it in Internet (Google and Youtube), and I even Installed and uninstall many
versions of it, sometimes I am installing the same thing but then, there are warnings that I thought would
help, for example, I turned off the firewall because it is one of the warnings but then, nothing change. I
have given up on it when we need to do the reports for the system, I borrowed the laptop of my co-OJT
so that I can create my tables and have the Data set for each report which I have change the design in
my own laptop.

Being able to do task that are related to my course, I can say that I have improved my skills and
knowledge about different kinds of programming, but I know that I am only half the way of the reality
that I will be encountering in the future. As a practice, I think that experiencing what it would be like
working in a company, is one of the most important things that I have learned, because being able to
deal with people who has different opinions and ideas is not easy. But then the employees in the
company and also our supervisor are really good and helpful persons that’s why I didn’t have a hard
time communicating with them with respect. I also build friendship with my co-OJT students who were
Dranreb, Jeanette and Llanos, I thank them for helping me to improve. And as this training ends, I can
say that I really learned something from it, not only the improvement in my skills and knowledge but
also, in terms of being a person, a better one.
