Dear Ms. Shepherd:

Effective the date of this letter, I have resigned from the Nashville School Board.

My departure took longer than I originally anticipated, but I felt obligated to remain on the board
pending voter input on Amendment No. 2 to the Metro Charter. Additionally, I wanted to get past the 2019
charter school application process.

Last month, the Amendment No. 2 referendum passed with 85 percent support — clarifying that
the Metro Council has the authority to appoint a person to fulfill the remainder of my term. Last week, the
school board concluded this year’s charter application process by voting down — for the second time this
year — a deeply flawed Rocketship charter application.

My work is done for now. I have notified the Vice Mayor and Metro Legal of my resignation.
