Outreach Program for
Rossland Community
Arts Plan
The Rossland Council for Arts &
Culture (RCAC) is working together
with other members of the arts com-
munity to create a community arts
plan for Rossland. This plan aims to
provide strategic direction for arts in
our community and to guide the city
as a cultural community.
On September 18, 2019, the group
launched its outreach program with
the first of three arts forums facili-
tated by Eden DuPont. The session
brought together a group of 25 local
artists to engage in thoughtful dis-
cussions centered around building a
resilient arts sector in Rossland.
The purpose of the outreach pro-
gram is to gather feedback from
the artists, arts organizations and
community at large to help define
the strategic direction and to better
understand community views on
investing long-term in the arts.
All voices matter, so participation
is crucial and valued. Recognizing
this, the program has been designed
with a multi-engagement approach
to ensure inclusiveness.
The first of three facilitated arts
forums happened on September 18
– October 9 and November 13 are
the dates of the other two.

long-time programmer mentors, many
who have years of creating award-win-
ning radio under their belts. The new
shows consist of both spoken word and
mostly music shows.
The new season starts Tuesday, Octo-
ber 8.
Kootenay Co-op Radio is also seek-
ing volunteers to serve on their 2019/20
board, starting in November. After 20
years on air, KCR is at a critical junc-
ture. Compared to 1999, there are doz-
ens of media options for the public’s
eyes and ears and so KCR is looking for
directors who can help steer this invalu-
able community radio resource into the
future, in a crowded, competitive media
landscape.
Kootenay Co-op Radio is a co-
operative, not a corporation. They are
intensely local. And they are unapolo-
getically eclectic, just like the Koote-
nays. As a member of the board, you
will be working with lively, creative,
interesting people who care about

about open burning
The BC Wildfire Service reminds its industry partners
to use caution when carrying out industrial and high-risk
activities, since the Southeast Fire Centre is experiencing a
heightened number of Category 3 incidents.
Since April 1, 2019, the Southeast Fire Centre has
responded to 158 wildfires, about 32% of which have been
human caused. The fire danger rating in the Southeast Fire
Centre is predominantly “low.” However, anyone conduct-
ing an open burn must stay vigilant and burn responsibly
while following all burn regulations.
Anyone planning to conduct an open burn in the South-
east Fire Centre must check the local venting index before
starting to burn. The Venting Index must be “good” on the
day the fire is lit and “good” or “fair” on the following day.

ing Smoke Control Regulation:
