Notes on Safety This manual does not constitute a complete catalog of all safety measures required for
operating the respective equipment (module, device), since special operating conditions
may require additional measures. However, it does contain notes which must be adhered
to for your own personal safety and for avoiding property damage. These notes are high-
lighted with a warning triangle and different keywords indicating different degrees of dan-
ger:
Warning
means that death, severe injury or substantial property damage may occur if the appro-
priate safety measures are not taken.
Caution
means that minor injury or property damage may occur if the appropriate safety measures
are not taken.
Qualified Personnel
Commissioning and operation of the equipment (module, device) described in this manual
must be performed by qualified personnel only. In the sense of the safety notes contained
in this manual, qualified personnel are those persons who are authorized to commission,
release, ground and label devices, systems and electrical circuits in accordance with safety
standards.

Display The SIPROTEC devices which have a big display panel allow for repre-
senting information graphically. A distinction is made between the
Default Display and the Control Display.
Default Display In the Default Display you can only visualize information.
Control Display In the Control Display, you can both visualize information of the protec-
tive device and control bay devices.
How to work in In the DIGSI Display Editor, you draw the desired display:
the DIGSI the Default Display or the Control Display.
Display Editor
This is done using pre-defined or user-defined symbols and devices.
Devices are symbols with integrated dynamics, for visualizing e.g.
different switch positions.
You can save the newly-drawn display as a template, so that you can use
it many times for creating new displays.
Context-sensitive dialog boxes help you to link the Control Display to the
information which was prepared before in the DIGSI 4 configuration
matrix. Thus you define the dynamics of the devices.
For documenting your work, you can print out symbols or devices, dis-
plays and dynamics used in displays.
The SIPROTEC devices which have a big display panel allow for repre-
senting information graphically there. Two graphics which are displayed
by the SIPROTEC device, can be altered with the Display Editor:
Default Display and Control Display.
Default Display The Default Display appears on the display panel when there has not
been any operator action at the SIPROTEC device for a preset period of
time.
With the Default Display, you cannot control any bay devices, but repre-
sent only information of the protective device.
The Default Display can consist of one or several pages.
Control Display By pressing the CTRL key at the SIPROTEC device, you switch to the
Control Display.
With the Control Display, you can both represent information and control
bay devices.
The Control Display can consist of one or several pages.
Selecting For selecting the items of information you want to show on the display
information panel of the SIPROTEC device, you use the configuration matrix of
DIGSI device editor.
DIGSI The displays are created by means of the DIGSI Display Editor and
Display Editor linked to the corresponding information of the SIPROTEC device.
Transmitting The Default Display and the Control Display are part of the parameter set
parameters of a SIPROTEC device. The parameter set is downloaded with
Device → DIGSI → Device in the DIGSI device editor into the
SIPROTEC device.
Note:
The following instructions mostly use menu commands for describing
how to proceed.
However, many of the menu commands can be accessed more rapidly
by clicking the corresponding toolbar icons.
The Toolbars dialog box allows you to decide which toolbars you want
to appear on the screen and whether you want to display tooltips as well.
It can be called by selecting View → Toolbars.... When pointing with the
mouse cursor to a toolbar icon, a hint referring to the corresponding
menu command will pop up, provided that the tooltips have been acti-
vated.
In addition, many functions can be selected with the help of keyboard
shortcuts.
Please observe the corresponding information which is displayed behind
the individual menu commands.
Useful information can also be found on the status bar, which can be acti-
vated or deactivated with the View → Status Bar command:
Information on the operation which is currently carried out by the user
or in the display view, the position of the mouse within the drawing
area.
The number of the displayed page and the number of pages.
The number of free characters.
The name of the symbol or device currently selected in the library.
The size of the symbol or device currently selected in the library.
The zoom factor of the display.
The state of the lockable keys.

object of type Device Container. This is also a special object of DIGSI 4
Manager. However, as DIGSI 4 Manager does not have a Component
view, this object only becomes visible in conjunction with STEP 7.
HV field description The HV project description file contains information about which fields
exist in a ModPara project. The field information itself is saved in an HV
field description file for each field. In the HV project description file each
field is assigned such an HV field description file by a reference to the file
name.
HV project descrip- All the data is exported once the configuration and parameterization of
tion PCUs and submodules using ModPara has been completed. This data is
split up into several files. One file contains details about the fundamental
project structure. This also includes, for example, information detailing
which fields exist in this project. This file is called an HV project descrip-
tion file.
IIEC address Each SIPROTEC 4 device must be assigned a unique IEC address within
an IEC bus. A total of 254 addresses are available per IEC bus.
Combination Combination devices are field devices with protective functions and con-
devices trol display.
Communication The communications reference describes the type and version of a user
reference CR of PROFIBUS communication.
OComponent view In addition to a topological view, SIMATIC Manager offers you a compo-
nent view. The component view does not offer any overview of the hier-
archy of a project, but provides an overview of all the SIPROTEC 4
devices within a project.
Link address The link address gives the address of a V3/V2 device. This address can
be changed with the help of DIGSI 3.x.
List view The right pane of the project window displays the names and icons of
objects which represent the contents of a container selected in the tree
view. Since the representation is made in the form of a list, this space is
also described as a list view.
Modem profile A modem profile consists of the name of the profile, a modem driver and
optionally several initialization commands as well as a user address. You
can create several modem profiles for one physical modem. To do this,
you need to link various initialization commands or user addresses to a
modem driver and its properties and save them under different names.
Modems Modem profiles for a modem connection are saved in this object type.
Modem connection This object type contains information on both partners of a modem con-
nection, the local modem and the remote modem.
Object properties Every object has properties. These can either be global properties which
more than one object have in common, or an object can have its own spe-
cific properties.
Folder This object type serves to create the hierarchical structure of a project.
Parameter settings General term for all adjustments made to the device. Parameter settings
are carried out via DIGSI 4 or, in some cases, directly on the device.
Parameter set The parameter set represents all the settings which can be defined for a
SIPROTEC 4 device.
Clean up The frequent adding and deleting of objects creates memory areas which
can no longer be utilized. These memory areas are freed again by clean-
ing up projects. However, the cleanup also means that the VD addresses
are reassigned. The consequence of this is that all SIPROTEC 4 devices
have to be reinitialized.
Protection devices All devices with a protective function and no control display.
Service interface Rear port serial interface on devices for connection of DIGSI 4 (e.g. via
modem).
SIPROTEC The registered trademark SIPROTEC 4 is used for all devices based on
the V4 system.
SIPROTEC 4 device This object type represents a real SIPROTEC 4 device and all its setting
values and process data.
System interface Rear port serial interface in the devices for connection to a control system
via IEC or PROFIBUS.
User address A user address comprises the name of the station, the national code, the
area code and the user-specific phone number.
Phonebook User addresses for a modem connection are saved in this object type.
Topological view DIGSI 4 Manager always shows a topological view of a project. This
shows the hierarchical structure of a project with all available objects.
V3/V2 device This object type represents a reference to existing data of a device of ver-
sion V3 or V2.
VFD A VFD (Virtual Field Device) covers all communication objects, including
their properties and states, which are used by a communications user via
services.
