The following minimum type test reports shall be submitted for each type and rating
of LT motor of above 50 KW only.

a) Measurement of resistance of windings of stator.

b) No load test at rated voltage to determine input current power and speed.
c) Open circuit voltage ratio of wound rotor motors (In case of slipring motors)
d) Full load test to determine efficiency power factor and slip .
e) Temperature rise test.
f) Momentary excess torque test.
g) High voltage test.
h) Test for vibration severity of motor.
i) Test for noise levels of motor(Shall be limited as per clause No. 15.24.00 of this
section)
j) Test for degree of protection
k) Over speed test.
l) Type test reports for motors located in fuel oil area having flame proof
enclosures as per IS 2148 / IEC 60079-1

Sr. Description of Test

No.
a) Measurement of resistance of windings of stator.
 This test is carried out when the motor is in cold condition and at normal
ambient temperature.

A constant current is injected into the winding and the voltage drop is
measured to calculate the resistance of winding. Acceptance criteria:
2
resistance of the winding shall be within +/- 5% of value mentioned in
data sheet. Digital micro ohm meter shall be used for measurement of
resistance.

b) No load test at rated voltage to determine input current power and

speed.
 The no-load test is required to check the electrical and mechanical
construction of the machine.
 The motor is to run on no-load at rated voltage and frequency.
 During the no load running motor should be checked for any abnormal
noise.
 Voltage, Input Current, Power and speed shall be measured during no
load test.
No load saturation curve will be plotted.

c) Open circuit voltage ratio of wound rotor motors (In case of slipring
motors)
 Not applicable as slipring motor not used.
d) Full load test to determine efficiency power factor and slip.
 This test is done in order to determine the value of Efficiency, power
factor, slip, output (KW and Torque) of the motor, at different load points.
 For this purpose motor is to be loaded to 25%, 50%, 75, 100% and
125% of the rated output, after temperature rise test.
 Based on the actual measured parameters (input voltage, frequency, line
current, speed, power factor) various losses are segregated. The
efficiency is calculated by summation of losses.
e) Temperature rise test.
 Temperature rise test is conducted at rated conditions i.e. Rated power
output at rated voltage & frequency condition. In case rated power output
can’t be measured directly, test can be done at rated input power
condition.
 For this purpose motor is connected to load & operated at rated load
continuously till the thermal stabilization is achieved. During this period,
temperatures are recorded continuously at periodic interval of half an
hour. Thermal stabilization is a condition wherein temperature rise
between two consecutive readings is less than 1ºC
 Temperature rise is calculated by means of cold winding resistance &
warm winding resistance which is measured at the end of temperature
rise test. The method of testing is resistance testing method. The time
limit for measurement of hot resistance shall be as per table in IEC
60034-1 clause 8.
f) Momentary excess torque test.
 Motor is loaded for 160% of the rated load and run for 15 sec’s without
stalling or abrupt change in speed at rated voltage and frequency.
g) High voltage test.
 The high voltage test is to be done on completed motor, with all its parts
in place under conditions equivalent to normal working conditions.
 The test voltage shall be as near as possible to sine waveform. The test
shall be gradually increased to the full test value. In this test High Voltage
of 2.0 KV is applied between winding & body of motor for 60 sec’s for
motors of voltage rating 415V.
 HV test is also conducted for space heater. High Voltage of 1.0 KV is
applied to accessories & body of motor for 60 sec’s.
 Acceptance criteria: The motor should withstand this test and the
instrument should not trip.
 This test, as far as possible, may not be repeated. If however, a second
test is required to be done at the request of purchaser, the test voltage
shall be 80% of the full voltage.
h) Test for vibration severity of motor.
 The motor under test is run on no-load by applying rated voltage and
rated frequency. Once motor picks up full speed, the vibration level is
measured in Horizontal, Vertical and Axial direction both at the drive-end
and the non-drive end of the motor. Tests are conducted as per IS 12075
2 / IEC 60034-14 & acceptance criteria of vibration to be less than 1.8
mm/sec for frame size ≤280 and 2.3mm/sec for frame size >315.

i) Test for noise levels of motor(Shall be limited as per clause No.

15.24.00 of this section)
 For this test the machine is placed freely on the test bed and is run on no
load at its rated Voltage and frequency.
 Noise is measured on various points around the motor. It is
Measured according to IS: 12065 at a distance of 1meter from the motor.
Care to be taken to minimize the background noise as low as possible. For
Acceptance Criteria for noise to be less than 85 db at a distance of 1
2
meter.
j) Test for degree of protection
 Test certificate shall be provided for the enclosure for review. The tests
2
were conducted as per IEC 60034-5 at third party agency.

k) Over speed test.

 The motor under test is to run on no-load by applying rated voltage and
rated frequency.
 Once motor picks up full speed, speed of the motor is increased by
increasing the input frequency by 20%.
 The test duration this test is 2 minutes. During this period no permanent
abnormal
Deformation should occur in the motor.

l) Type test reports for motors located in fuel oil area having flame
proof enclosures as per IS 2148 / IEC 60079-1
 Not applicable as above mention type motor not used.
