Dear Students

Guidelines – 2020 NRF Honours and Final Year B-Tech Bursaries

The National Research Foundation released a call for Honours and B-Tech Students’ bursaries (Scarce Skills, Innovation,
Students with Disability and NRF Free standing) for 2020. The call is published on the NRF website and is accessible online
at https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za.

It is important to familiarise yourself with the content of this call before you create an application. Each applicant is limited to
only one (1) application.

APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY FOR HONOURS AND B-TECH SCHOLARSHIPS:

 This is a one-year award only.


 If you have already received NRF funding in 2019 for the same programme, you may not apply again.
 Only South African citizens and South African permanent residents may apply.
 If you will be employed (Full-time\Part-time) in 2020, you may not apply.
 You should be a full-time registered student in 2020.
 An applicant should at least obtain an average of 60% for his/her 3rd year/ final year major modules.

NOTE: THE UNIVERSITY’S CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS IS 15 OCTOBER 2019.

FAILURE TO SUBMIT ON TIME AND APPLICATIONS WITHOUT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS OR INCOMPLETE


DSUBMISSION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

The Research Office will host bursary application training sessions following the below schedule:

To secure your place at a training session, you are requested to sign the register at the Research Development and
Postgraduate Studies Offices, Room 21E, prior to the specific training session.

The following compulsory supporting documents (save PDF documents one by one) should be attached on the online
application: These documents must be readable!

 Certified copy of South African Identity Document (Should be uploaded under Registration details)
 Certified academic record or, in case of applicants with outstanding fees due to the university, attach an official letter that
is stamped and signed, stating that the transcript is not issued due to outstanding fees owed to the university.
 Proof of NSFAS or University Financial Aid funding for applicants that have indicated that they were previously funded by
NSFAS or received University Financial Aid funding.
 Applicants with disabilities must upload a medical certificate, in support of the disability.
