a) Role of Operating System
The operating system works as a bridge between the hardware and the users. It
manages technical task in a computer.
Operating system functions are managing computer resources, providing user interface,
running applications, device controlling and booting. Operating system functions as
managing computer resources such as memory, processing, monitor system
performance, schedule tasks and start-up the computer. The second functions is
providing user interface in which it allows users to interact with application programs and
computer hardware through a User Interface. The third functions are running applications
in which operating system load and runs applications. It supports multi-tasking whereby
the operating system had the ability to switch between different applications stored in
memory such as running Microsoft Word on foreground and Microsoft Excel in
background at the same time. The next functions are device controlling where the system
controls all devices attached to the computer with the help of software called device
drivers. The last functions are booting. Booting is the action of starting and restarting the
computer and performed in two ways which is warm boot and cold boot. Warm boot
