This flowchart should help you frame the approach and methodology that you will use for the rest of this year to do
your thesis. It is meant to help you ask yourself the question: for the kind of general topic I’m interested in, what kind
of thesis do I want to do? Do I want to work for or with a community to help them come up with solutions to a problem
they’re facing, or do I want to create some kind of critical reflection or awareness around a social or cultural issue? Do
I want to explore and extend what can be done with a particular technology, or do I want to dive deeply into a
theoretical domain and develop new ways of educating artists or designers about it?
Think about what this thesis means to you, what ways of working you find engaging and interesting (this is an year
long endeavor, after all), and what you want to get out of it at the end. Above all, have fun with your thesis: this is a
great opportunity for you to spend a lot of time working on something dear to you with all the resources and support
that NYU and the faculty at IDM have to offer, so use this time and space to do something amazing!
