The following is a memorandum written by the director of personnel to the president

of the Cedar Corporation.

"It would be a mistake to rehire the Good-Taste Company to supply the food in our
employee cafeteria next year. It is the second most expensive caterer in the city.
In addition, its prices have risen in each of the last three years, and it refuses
to provide meals for people on special diets. Just last month three employees
complained to me that they no longer eat in the cafeteria because they find the
experience 'unbearable.' Our company should instead hire Discount Foods. Discount
is a family-owned local company and it offers a varied menu of fish and poultry. I
recently tasted a sample lunch at one of the many companies that Discount serves
and it was delicious�an indication that hiring Discount will lead to improved
employee satisfaction."

satisfaction as Good-Taste Company that supply the food in our employee cafeteria
is the most expensive caterer in the city and just last month three employees
complained that they no longer eat in the cafeteria because they find the
experience 'unbearable. However the argument is not entirely and logically
convincing because it is based on few unproven assumption .

Firstly, the writer believes that it would be a mistake to rehire the Good-Taste
Company to supply the food to employee cafeteria in upcoming year as it is one of
the most expensive caterer in the city and in addition its prices have risen in
each of the last three years. But the writer did not provide any detail statistical
data about increase in prices of Good taste company as well as the prices of
Discount Food company. writer only stated that each of the last three years the
prices of Good taste company have risen. It is quite possible that prices of good
taste company food are same as comapred to Discount Food supply company but its
cost get increased due to additional taxes which get increases every year and due
to which selling price of each eatable item of Good taste company get increase from
each of last 3 years. Its equally possible that not all eatable items of Good taste
company are costly only few eatable items are costly or may be only seasonable
eatable items are costly otherwise all the other items prices are same as compared
to Discount Food company so if only few items are costly we cant assume that Good
taste company caterer is expensive. However as there is absence of detail
statistical data of prices of items of both company, we cannot assume that there is
a continuous increase in good taste company's food supply from each of last 3
years.Thus if it could be found true, then investigated further.

Secondly, the writer claims that it refuses to provide meals for people on special
deits. It may be possible that only few people are on special deits and demading
for such food may not be much because of which company does not provide such meals.
However memorandum does not provide any detail about Demanding Food company that
providing such meals. Later the writer claim that just last month three employees
complained that they no longer eat in the cafeteria because they find the
experience 'unbearable. However, in which way their experience in unbearable is not
provided in memorandum. It is possible that experience of these three employees is
nothing to do with food supply of Good Taste company. Thus the writer need to
answer several question such as whether the Discount Food company fulfills the
demand of providing meals for people on special diets and in which way three
employees experience is unbearable. If the writer mentioned additional evidence
then his recommendation would be cogent and reliable.

Lastly, the writer states that Discount is a family-owned local company and it
offers a varied menu of fish and poultry which groundless the argument. It may be
possible that all the employees are vegetarians or its equally possible that only
few people are used to eat fish and poultry. Moroever it does not lead to any
conclusion that Discount will lead to improved employee satisfaction.Thus if it
could found true, then investigated further.

In summary, by considering the discussion above it can be seen that the reason
mentioned in the memorandum by the director are not enough to support his
suggestion. The argument in memorandum loses weight because it has no explanation
for the discussion given above. If the writer provide additional evidence which
will prove that changing food supply company will lead to improved employee
satisfaction it would make his argument reliable and cogent.
