FOREWORD

1. SCOPE.

This job guide manual presents illustrated step-by-step procedures for


checkout and test of the F-5E miscellaneous pneudraulics, and removal,
replacement, and adjustment of system components as required at the
organizational level of maintenance.

2. USE.

The table of contents in the front of this volume is a useful means of


determining which chapter of the volume contains needed procedures. Go
directly to the table of contents within the applicable volume to determine
the chapter number of the needed procedure.

3. INPUT CONDITIONS.

Under "Personnel Recommended" on input conditions page, fewer per-


sonnel may be utilized than are specified if individuals possess more than
one qualification.

4. CHAPTER REFERENCES.

When a procedure within an individual chapter requires the performance


of the procedures contained in another chapter of this volume, the refer-
ence reads, "See Chapter _____ of this TO".

5. VOLUME REFERENCES.

When a procedure within a chapter of this volume requires the perfor-


mance of a procedure contained in another volume, the volume number
will be referenced.

6. SUPPLEMENTAL REFERENCES.

When a procedure within a chapter of this volume requires the perfor-


mance of an equivalent supplementary task which covers peculiar op-
tional equipment, the "Equivalent Supplementary Manual" and the basic
volume number will be referenced.

7. USE OF ILLUSTRATIONS.

Switch positions, control settings, and instrument readouts as illustrated


are merely representative and do not necessarily show the actual posi-
tions, settings, or indications required by the step procedures contained
herein.

8. APPLICABILITY.

A code system to identify that part of the job guide manual pertaining to
individual aircraft is presented below:

• Text and illustrations applicable to all aircraft listed under "Applica-


bility" on the "Input Conditions" page are not coded.

• Steps, notes, and illustrations applicable to specific aircraft are coded


with a numbered triangle ( , ) keyed to the aircraft serial numbers
listed under "Applicability."

• Complete text pages applicable only to specific aircraft are identified


by a note with the aircraft number code.

Required Conditions:

• Prior to accomplishing this maintenance procedure on an


armed aircraft, refer to TO 1F-5E-2-12-1 for precautions to
be observed. Failure to observe this warning may result in
serious injury to personnel or damage to the aircraft.
• When movement of any controls or switches or the appli-
cation of electrical power and/or hydraulic pressure would
endanger personnel or equipment, a warning placard will be
placed conspicuously on the aircraft. (See TO 1F-5E-2-12-2
for recommended placard design.)
• Material(s) used in this procedure are classified hazardous
to personnel. Prior to accomplishing this procedure refer to
TO 1F-5E-2-12-2 for precautions to be observed.

Personnel Recommended: Two


• Aircraft environmental systems mechanic will be required to per-
form this procedure.
• Tactical aircraft maintenance specialist will be required to remove
and install access door.

Support Equipment:
Torque wrench, 1/2-inch drive, 0 to 600 inch-pounds or equivalent

1. Remove access door No 560 (1).

2. Remove lower clamp (2) from connector (3) and ram air outlet duct
(4).

3. Remove ram air outlet duct (4) from aircraft.

4. Install protective covers over ram air outlet duct (4) and connector
(3).

1. Cut safety wire and unscrew case (2) from filter head (1).

2. Remove filter case (2) from aircraft.

3. Remove filter element (6), spacer (5), packing (4), and packing
backup ring (3).

4. Remove packing (7) from upper end of filter element (6).

5. Install plastic sheets on filter head (1) and filter case (2) and secure
with tape.

• Handle filter element (2) with care to prevent damage.


• Cleaning filter element (2) with solvents or shop air is not
authorized. Element shall be returned to proper facility
for ultrasonic or other approved cleaning method. (See
TO 1F-5E-2-3-6.)

1. Remove protective covers from filter head (1) and filter case (3).

Solvent, P-D-680, Type II may affect skin, eyes and respi-


ratory tract. Use in well ventilated area. Avoid prolonged
breathing of vapors. Keep away from sparks and flames.

2. Clean filter case (3) with cleaning solvent.

Handle filter element (6) with care to prevent damage.

1. Lubricate kit packings (4 and 7) with petrolatum before installation.

2. Install packing (7) in top of filter (6) from 1730822-42A kit; insert
filter into filter head (1).

3. Install spacer (5) into case and seat firmly.

4. Install packing backup ring (3) and packing (4) on filter case (2).

5. Apply antiseize compound to threads of filter case (2).

6. Screw case (2) into filter head (1).

7. Torque case (2) to 150 ±10 inchpounds.

8. Safetywire case (2) to filter head (1).

1. Remove protective covers from ram air outlet duct (4) and connec-
tor (3).

2. Positioned ram air outlet duct (4) into connector (3); secure with
clamp (2).

3. Install access door No 560 (1).

Required Conditions:
Bleed air regulator shutoff valve pressure control thermostat shall
be removed. (See TO 1F-5E-2-3-3-3.)

1. Working thru refrigeration access door No 684 (1), cut safetywire


and unscrew case (7) from filter head (2).

2. Remove filter case (7) from aircraft.

3. Remove filter element (3), spacer (4), packing (5), and packing
backup ring (6).

4. Remove packing (8) from upper end of filter element (3).

5. Install plastic sheets on filter head (2) and filter case (7) and secure
with tape.

thorized. Element shall be returned to proper facility for ultra-
sonic or other approved cleaning method. (See TO 9H3-1-1.)

Handle filter element (6) with care to prevent damage.

filter into filter head (1).

3. Install spacer (5) into case and seat firmly.

4. Install packing backup ring (3) and packing (4) on filter case (2).

5. Apply molybdenum disulfide grease to threads of filter case (2).

6. Screw case (2) into filter head (1).

7. Torque case (2) to 150 ±10 inch-pounds.

8. Safetywire case (2) to filter head (1).

Follow-on maintenance action required.

FOLLOW-ON MAINTENANCE
Install bleed air regulator shutoff valve pressure control ther-
mostat. (See TO 1F-5E-2-3-3-3.)
