PRAXIS ANALYSIS

Praxis Analysis

The overall importance of the Praxis Core exam lies in its ability to create a baseline of common

knowledge for all educators. It sets a standard, no matter what specific subject one intends to teach.

Also, it is mandated that I must pass this exam to move on to the next stage of my education. To

prepare for the Praxis Core exam I reviewed content and took the practice version of the test. My results

from this practice exam will aid me by guiding all further study for the actual Praxis Core exam.

Admittance into the college of education at UNLV will only be granted once I have achieved passing

scores in the sections of Math, Reading, and Writing. These passing scores are as follows: Math – 150,

Reading – 156, and Writing- 162.

In preparation for the practice Praxis Core exam I spent time thoroughly reading through the

Study Companion PDF. This was accessible for each section through the links to the ETS website

provided for this assignment. Additional to this, I created a Khan Academy account and completed their

diagnostic tests. Reading and Writing were admittedly more difficult than anticipated. Unfortunately,

Math was the worst of all. When it came to this section, I was taken aback from the results of the

diagnostics test. These results prompted me to reach out to my current math professor for some

insights into the questions I felt completely lost on. After some rudimentary refreshment on these

concepts, it was time to take the official practice exam.

In all honesty, I could have spent a few more hours working on Reading and Writing, but Math

was where I spent most of my time. This seemed to pay off with a percentage of 81% likely to pass the

official Praxis Core Math Section. This was extremely uplifting seeing as I am scheduled to take this

section in December. Next up was Reading, sadly, this didn't have as positive an outcome. My score was

an underwhelming 66% - needs improvement. This, of course, means I'll need to work on this section

aggressively before taking the official exam. I was floored, seeing as I hold reading as my strength. The

following day I took on the writing section. The respite seemed to work and my score for this section

was 88% likely to pass.

In the continuance of my preparation to take and pass the Praxis Core Exam, I will use three

main study tactics. Firstly, I will read through and utilize my Praxis Core study guide which has already

been purchased and received. Secondly, I will stay consistent with the study plan Khan has provided.

Lastly, if the previous two still leave me feeling ill-prepared; I intend to invest in some one-on-one

tutoring. Passing this exam is of the highest priority.
