Environmental Effects of Global Warming caused by

industrialisation

What we need to know about global warming

How global warming work

 Global warming caused by the rising of greenhouse gas (GHG), especially CO2, the most
prevalent and dangerous gas, which trappes heat from the sun and drives climate change.
 Since in the 19th century, it was recognized that GHG gas level caused the changing of
climate by burning fossil fuel which released a significant number of CO2 to atmosphere
worldwide.

Global warming naturally happens (Cons)

 CO2 can be produced by natural processes. CO2 is mostly found in oceans as suspended
carbon around 37,000 billion tons. Land biomass also and atmospher has about 2000 – 3000
billion tons and 720 billion tons of CO2 respectively, while human contribute only 6 billion
tons. Those are dynamic and adsorbed by others called the carbon cylce.
 A number of large Earth’s climate variation both glacial period and warmer climate has
been recorded since millions of years ago. These have been driven by many natural factors,
including changes in the sun, volcanoes, Earth’s orbit and CO2 levels. From Geological
records over the last 800,000 years both ice ages and warmer interglacial periods have been
occured. After the last ice age 20,000 years ago, the rising of average global temperature
was recorded by about 3°C to 8°C, over a period of about 10,000 years.

Global warming caused by human activities (Pros)

 Since mid-20th century, enabling Earth-orbiting satellites and other technological advances,
scientists from NASA collected many different and multitemporal informations which reveals
the signal of climate change.
 In the last century, atmospheric CO2 concentration had a dramatical rise above the trend of
the CO2 rate in the warmer or interglacial period throughout history. This phenomenon start
from the industrial era when the machine consumed fossil fuel was mushroomed.

Global Warming Effect (Problem)

 Warming Oceans  Shrinking Ice Sheets  Sea Level Rise  Flood

 Extreme weather  heat wave  Increased wildfires
 Ocean acidification  declining of marine biodiversity

Solution

 Paris Climate Aggrement of 2015 to reduce greenhouse gas emission

o Carbon budget, improving renewable energy
 Individual implementation : energy efficiency for reducing the fossil fuel consumption
o Using electricity efficiently, choosing public transportation or fuel-efficient vehicle
rather than conventional private car, and pulling the plugs
